Steamboat

Hey, I am heading up to Steamboat in Decemeber for my first winter up there. I am not that good, but I am looking for a group of riders to help me get better by pushing me in the park and backcountry. You guys seem pretty chill ... and I was hoping to meet some skiers in the area, so let me know.

Also, I still need a place to live. Know of any rooms for rent through March?

working for the mountain? as an instructor or lift tickets? (only jobs i can think of with that kind of schedule) For a short time period like that from Dec-Mar, it's going to be hard finding a place unless they rent month-month since most now are a year lease if not at least 6 months. Just check the steamboat paper website: www.steamboatpilot.com and surf the classifieds there. Or if you are infact working for the mountain, theres always employee housing, but I recommend that as a last resort, since you are packed into a 2bd/2ba place with 3 other roommates.

10 days left woooooo

I'm working for Steamboat Resorts, as an intern, but atleast they pay me. I go to DU down here in Denver. Already looked at The Pilot ... just looking around for the cheapest rent.

Is there a good scene up there for twin-tippers like us? Park, backcountry jibbing, parties?

park is decent, could be sick if it ever got moved to a different location. bc is good if you know where to look, if you get a sled you can find lots of good stuff. and parties are good if you know the right people.

park is good for where its at and the budget they are given...we just need to get bought by someone already! From what I've heard we aren't going to be bought though until late quater 3 or start of 4 though. Fortress just came back for their second visit!!!! I sooooooo hope that they buy us...then our park would be moved, and would for sure be awesome!!!!

17 inches in last 3 days!

pipe yes. Park NO. still too god damn steep. Look at any other mountain and their park is on a run as flat as a green, which is why they have such good flow between jumps. The first half of bashor is too steep for anything park.

vail and breck are on runs that are just as steep as steamboat. our pipe is graded out to what... 18%. that ain't to steep for jumps if they were sized right.

yeah, and if they would get rid of that fuckin nastar bullshit...they could build some sick huge jumps over there...def. not too steep...plus, think about how steep the usfo course usually is at vail...just as steep as bashor if not steeper...i agree about length tho park-wise. if it could be like double the length, it would be close to perfect.

^ I agree...I don't think that its to steep..but its just to make jumps big enough for the pitch in there, there just isn't enough room. But yeah I love the idea cause u can lap soooooo many times and so fast in there, and see everything giong on in the park. But it'd be kick ass to have like 3 huge jumps in a row......

bah what I said still stands. The first pitch is definitely steeper than usfo vail. And yea it wouldnt be too steep if we had jumps that could match the speed you get....but no space for that, so poop. grade the rest of bashor like the retarded nastar course, then we'd be talkin.

i don't know i think they should leave the bashor park as is but take the mini park out and make it a rail garden with 15-20 rails its perfect area for it and then move the the mini park somewhere else.

Dude, just build a park all along Zig-zag, the entire way down. All manditory jumps of death, and make half of it one huge curved rail slide to the base. Totally rad man!

I'm almost at that point!

I know I mentioned this before in the thread but I am getting desperate. I am moving up there in like a week and a half and I still don't have a place to live, anyone know of a room for rent through March?

hahah zigzag. good luck with that building jumps by shovel. cant even fit a cat in there. I just talked to the higher ups today and the park is being moved to chute one. ROCK ON!!!!!!!!

exactly, you over shot the jump. the jump didnt make you over shoot it, so who's fault is it, well its not the jump's fault, its your fault. go get god to give more snow if you want something better.

props to the park crew guys for setting up as much as there is out there....best opening setup yet, for sure.

man, there are a lot of people posing HARD in that place though...if you're not gonna hit the rails, dont roll in and occupy space

Im coming out to steamboat before christmas. I know it all depends on weather and shit, but do they usually have the chutes, xmas tree bowl, n st pats and stuff open by mid dec.? and whats the deal with these cliffs and stuff(I think its between chutes 1 and 2, correct me if im wrong?) I assume its roped off and shit, but it looks so good.

thanks for your help. if anyone wants to meet up and ski, ill be skiing dec 17-21. Ill prob go through the park if the conditions are that good, or at the end of the week when i need to get shit done.

i don't see any way the chutes are going to be open by christmas. rumor is, it is supposed to start dumping this week, but we'll be lucky if sundown and sunshine are even open by christmas.

What good stuff is there that will be open. Would they even get their pipe open by then. I dont want to spend all my time skiing park.

they are shooting for opening the pipe by christmas. hopefully this storm coming in dumps some snow then i can give you some more info.

j, what up with you? i haven't heard from you in a while...i'm hittin near rock bottom right now...my car is broke, my phone is broke and i quit my job today, so i am on a tight budget....go figure.

better pray for some snow man....

things are looking pretty dire right about now....a lot of exposure/sketchiness all over the mountain that desperately needs to be covered (and I don't think this one big storm is going to do it).

Bashor bowl, where both park/pipe are located looks like garbage right now. To my knowledge, they haven't started blowing snow in there yet, so there is dirt and shit showing everywhere (including the pipe, or where it's dug out anyways). It's looking like they may not even get the main park open by that time, so you may be hitting a couple of rails and a jump or two at best....just really depends on whether or not we get some snow, they can't just blow snow everywhere on the mountain.
