NEVER MOVE TO STEAMBOAT.

I was just there for three days. The mountain is fucking lame. It's not steep, there's tons of tourists (who are good for business, but not for you and me while we're skiing), and their park is supposed to be mediocre. IN FACT, they didn't even have the fucking thing done when I got there. It's fucking January. WTF.

The backcountry is pretty ok, but as long as you have mountains, backcountry is 'ok' so it doesn't rank well there either.

In addition, the snow fucking sucked enormous donkey balls.

That was my experience. I'm sure some local will post after me saying I'm a 'fag' and that 'I suck,' but that is an honest report from a veteran skier.

Oh yeah

The town is pretty cool though, but way more low key than Aspen or some other bigger places.

You may like it since you're from Wisconsin. I'm used to 10-13000 ft. peaks for skiing, so I'm spoiled. I'm sure Steamboat, as a whole, destroys most midwest places.

Better hope they get their park together, too

Copper doesn't really have a town, but the mountain is sick. Plus, with Copper, you are super close to several other mountains including Vail, Beaver Creek, Breck, Keystone, etc.

I haven't been to Steamboat in a few years, so I can't say much about that, but if you come to Copper, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Also, if park is what you want, Copper's is sick, Breck's is sick, Keystone's is pretty good, Winter Park's is dope, etc.

move to salt lake city. Its cheaper and has more options

yeah i really wouldnt move to steamboat. the park is nothing, and its basically a tourist resort with a lot of southerners there.

The Mavrick Superpipe is nice but park is not much. They do get absolutly dumped on due to there geographical location. If you just want park skiing summit county (ie. copper, breck, vail) is your best bet. But if you want to be skiing amongst aspen trees in knee deep powder on a regular basis but have an ok park, DO IT, DO IT!

Every trip (5-7 times) that I have taken to steamboat (from Denver) in the past 2 years they have had at least 6' of fresh. 22' one time.

well i was there for a week and it didnt snow once.

the park is decent, and they have 2 normally fairly large hits like a 40ft and 50fter(that was like mid feb) and over spring break they had pretty much the same set up with good sized hits...

rails they had last year a huge banked C rail, a pretty gnar trap rail, a few good flat rails and mail boxes, a down rail, 2 kinked rail/box things and a lot of beginner rails, the super pipe is dope though

The boat has some steeps and drops, just not much of it...more than breck, keystone and Vail though. It really dumps there, while all of the summit county resorts get 1 or 2'.

More steeps than breck?

Are you joking?

Steamboat has about 5 runs that could be considered steep. 3 of them require quite a long walk on flats after you are done.

Breck has some sick steeps if you are willing to hike a bit- the lake chutes are 55 degrees.

Bottom line: stemboat has nice powder, but most of the mountain is so flat it dosent matter. It has a very nice pipe, but the rest of the park isnt anything special.

every year steamboats park is basically the same... there is the massive halfpipe down the middle, there is 2 jumps and a big flat down rail directly to the left, then to the left of that they have uber small jumps and some mediocre rails... its fun to go there for like 2-3 days, but thats it, move to summit then ski copper, breck, keystone, a basin and loveland

You are from the midwest so wherever you go in Colorado you are going to have a blast. I personally like Steamboat as a whole. The snow is really nice and usually there is a lot, the only drawback is the lack of steeps but whats Steamboat has you might consider good enough.

if she gets nowhere in her life at least she knows shes pretty...

i'll be the local that says you're an idiot, there are no southerners here and the snow is better than anywhere in colorado, its snowed bout 10 inches since i woke up this morning. if you want to ski just park, go ski breck, steamboat makes all it's money through tourism, and tourists dont like the park, they like to ski powder

im from the midwest, im goin up there for spring break end of march. sooo excited. hows is it that late in the season?

if carrots got you drunk, rabbits would be fucked up

i dont just wanna ski park, i want to ski pow, but i dont wanna get there and find that the park isnt any better then a park here.
