Steak emergency

I'm a vegetarian and I'm cooking my boyfriend a surprise dinner tonight. I don't know two shits about how to cook steak or what kind of steak is good to cook and how you cook that kind of steak.

I bought a strip steak.... now what....

i just ate a chuck steak. but anyway a ny strip steak is to simply grill it. if you wanna marinate in quickly some soy sauce is an excelent choice. anyway you can figure on a really hot wood fire three minutes per side. you want to take it off when it start to feel firm.

You Heat up a cast iron skillet or the grill and after it gets good and hot (like around 400 degrees is where I usually do it for the grill) you throw that bad boy on there for about 5 min, a side. Then you enjoy your nice juicy steak. But I think around 7 min a side is technically medium (i was never good on times I just go by feel)

And if you want to get special you could use a dry rub on the steak before you cook it, or depending on how much time you have make a marinade for it.

I guess what I'm wondering is.... everyone always says that steaks are so much better on the grill.... my friend has a grill up the street a few houses... is it worth it? Or should I just cook it on the stove.

When in doubt...

But I usually season each side with 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1/4 teaspoon of pepper on each side and grill it on high heat on each side for 4 minutes for a 1-inch steak (so that's medium-rare). Most guys like it medium-rare.

So just salt and pepper that bovine, and throw it in a searing hot pan for 4-5 minutes on each side.

cook on a gril, put it on max and near the flame. the older a man gets the bloodier he wants his steak.

don't overcook it! leave it niiiiice and juicy and pink inside! at least if that's how he likes it. if not then... well lame

celebrating steak and bj day a little early?

nah im jp. wish i had a girl that would cook (well) for me. basically the advice given is good. id make check to see how well he likes it cooked though. most people said they like theirs rare-med but i like mine a little more, like med-well. not well to its like crusty and black, but not so its real pink and bloody and still mooing.

i cook a lot of steak, so here's my advice.

buy a powder marinade from the grocery store, or if you don't want to bother marinating it, use emeril's steak rub.

cook

it in the broiler, and there isn't a huge difference. cooking it on a

skillet sucks unless its a skillet steak (super thin) in which case a

broiler isn't recommended.

if you want to make an impressive

meal, make carne asada. it doesn't require a good steak, which is good

if you don't have one. marinate it in lime juice, garlic, and salt.

cook some yellow rice and black beans, and slice an avocado. pour a

little lime and salt on the avocado. it looks very visually appealing

and its my favorite meal.

if you haven't picked it out yet, in

my opinion rib eye is the best bang for your buck. it can be tastier

than fillet mignon, but not as tender. as with any steak, look for

lots of marbling (thin veins of fat running through the steak)

t-bones

can be cheap and really big (or at least look big). the cut isn't

important. its the price and marbling. just look for the best cut.

my number one rule cooking steak is DO NOT OVERCOOK IT. I can deal with medium but well done is an affront to any person who legitimately likes steak.

there's my advice. god i love steak.

ok listen cause these are the fuckin best steaks ever!! so what you do is take a skillit (cast iron ones work the best) put a little grease in the bottom and fill the bottom layer of the skillet with salt. Wait till the salt starts to jump then put the steak in. wait 2 min and flip it over and cook on that side for 2 min. then cut into the middle and make sure its not too red. (a little red is good and tender) when its done throw it on a plate and serve with A1

Chick automatically kicks ass here...
