Stay Safe NS

Lately i've been reading about and hearing about way to many accidents for my liking. No im not talking about an ACL or broken leg, im talking about broken necks and spines.

I want to take a minute away from all the arguing, flaming, selling, jokes and fun that is NS and be serious for a moment.

Every year people die doing snowsports, not just people out there trying to throw dubs or having a first decent down some gnarly shoot in Alaska, not just kids who dont know what there doing and skiing out of control, im talking about average people like you and me.

I personally hate reading these things about people, it scares the shit out of me because i know it can happen to anyone, no matter how skilled you are it takes one mistake and you could be in a wheel chair.

See the problem is, alot of us ski and do not injure ourselves. We may fall and get bruised and a little shaken up but after a while of no real inuries you tend to forget you can get them. But theres a problem with that, the cold hard thruth about it is we werent designed to soar in the air doing flips and spins, we do it anyway because its a thrill but unfortunatly our bones arent as strong as we wish they could be and trees and ice are much harder.

Sometimes we kind of forget that were not invincible, you hear off all these stories of people behing hurt an injured and you think to your self " yea ok, im not some noob going to ski into a tree, or eat shit on my misty" well anyone ( yes even tammy wallnutz ) can crash on some of the simplest things out there. More often than not these crashes arent serious but sometimes they are.

Im not trying to be the guy bringing some grim message and scaring everyone, i just want people to read this and keep themselves in check, as much as it pains me to read about anyone severly injuring themselves i know it would hit alot closer to home if it was a fellow rider like all you NS'ers out there.

Basically what im saying is, were human, our bodys can only take so much, we have limits. Should we try and push our limits? yes of course we should but do it at a safe rate. This isnt the most well written thing out there, i know but i still wanted to say something after hearing about way to many deaths/ paralyzing accidents lately.

Wear a helmet, be a smart skier, keep incontrol, know your limits and push them but progress at a realistic rate, have fun a stay safe!

Just looking out for all you fine guys and gals on NS (

good quality thread

i totally agree with you...

my dad tells me it everyday and it goes over my head but it is totally true

were not invincible and most of us do not realize that

Good thread man. As much as I want progression to be my 1st priority they remain

1. staying safe

2. having fun

3. progressing

my mom always says stay safe when I'm about to hit the first chair each day.
It always keeps me thinking before I act.

^ haha yea my mom says that always too, most of ours probably do. We just need to actually listen, moms always right after all aha.

Also forgot to wish everyone a fun, happy, progressful and safe season!

It seems like most of the crazy accidents that we hear about happen not in the park, but in other places. Like the guy who severed his spinal cord crashed right before the park, and a kid I know broke his jaw on the way to the park. A thing everyone should think about is maybe going slower and being a little more cautious bombing down to the park, because it could have some bad consequences.

I read somewhere that in 1998 more people died from toilet related accidents than skiing related accidents. your thoughts?

sorry... did I ruin a serious thread?

avalanches are not freak accidents, the main element is human error

also that quick a rescue is absolutely stunning and completely unheard of

sorry, this is a bad thread... if your WORRIED about getting hurt you arent going to progress or have as much fun. be CONFIDENT in what your trying, think about landing that trick- not the consequences of falling. a better title would be "dont be stupid NS". as in dont try a kang if you cant do a flatspin.

quality thread. yeah as skiers we gotta keep pushing the envelope and stuff tends to go wrong most times.but its still so scary to hear about all the deaths and commas that happen. good looking out.

For sure dude. Moms are like Gandalf, or Dumbledore but in a women form. They're super wise and they always no best. Respect, Mama Bear... Respect...

Good thread. You can hurt yourself on anything, I mean this rail is like 7ft long and 1ft tall and look what happens to the kid(sorry suck at embed)

Not true, I'm half robot and my bones are made of steel. I skied into a tree and it fell to the ground, trembling in fear of technology!

True though, people shouldn't get hurt having fun. It just kinda sucks. Like a person robbing a bank and running away should be the one to have some dumb accident and trip and fall or whatever, not a skier. Such is life, nobody die okay?

I've never had a serious skiing injury, and I think that for people like me, the longer you go uninjured, the more invincible you feel. And if this makes you throw down beyond your skill level, that's when accidents start to happen.

So fuck that kid who just Corked off a huge booter, or disaster 4'd an FD, go at your own pace. Skiing is not a competition. Unless you're competing, that is...

great thread i got a wake up call this week i broke my left side ribs when hit a cat track in flat light did half a back flip and landed on the base of my neck on a mogul came very close to popping a lung very scary to come up and not be able to breath

that video has been posted on a few sites and one place(i think the black diamond website) explained the sound the guy is making is him gasping for air. he didn't get the avalung completely in his mouth as he was getting buried so he couldn't get much air. pretty sketchy

Although i didnt state that in the title, im pretty sure most people understood thats what i was implying in the thread, dont try anything stupid, have some sense while your out there and just remember your not invincible
