I went home for Xmas. I brought back my skis. I have no season pass and have never skiied anywhere not in British Columbia or WA state, pretty much (actually not quite true but might as well be).

Where should I go in the next 2 months?

Heard they got 33. No way of getting there unless someone's driving.

Yessss gonna go ski with Chantal. FB or PM me when you want to go. I'm going to sunshine this weekend for no particularly compelling reason but kicking horse is definitely in the cards.

Well when you've got the options of driving to Whistler / Blackcomb or Mount Baker for pow and have 3 local mountains 1 hour from downtown, and a "longer" trip will take you to any number of places in the BC interior that are beyond epically awesome... why bother spending a bunch of time and money to fly somewhere? That was always my attitude, anyway, though Whis has gotten so bad in recent years that if I hadn't moved I would perhaps have needed to re-evaluate.

Revy and Kicking Horse. They have gnarlier riding than Whistler. I'm in Whistler now JD, it's puking heavy coastal pow. A pow day at kicking horse is truly glorious.

to skibunnie, how often do you go to Kicking Horse? for how long? It's my home, but I'm taking school in Calgary, would love to hopefully work out rides sometimes.

I also have 2 free days at Sunshine, looking for someone to go ski with, haven't skied there in 8 or so years. Any takers?

This is very very true.

JD, if you don't mind me asking what makes you dislike Whistler now? Hype, olympics, rich people everywhere? Those are some of the ones I've noticed. I can say though, going back at Christmas time and getting a few days at Whistler felt like home.

Whistler is a prime example of why I curse, on a regular basis, everyone involved in promoting fat skis and making them popular. I would be perfectly happy skiing pow on 80mm sticks and getting face shots while others cruised groomers on "parabolics". In 02-04ish, I could easily ski for a full day or more in any number of deep spots and barely cross any tracks. Now, lakeside is tracked out in about 40 minutes. It's stupid and it forces people (me) further into the slackcountry to find good stuff. I yearn for the days when you could lap fraggle waiting for the high to open and actually enjoy the experience. I probably need to start touring or something.

Anyway any time anyone is driving up a mountain and wants to split gas, PM me, good chance I'll be in. I'm going to the shine tomorrow unless someone shoots me, at the moment via bus... if anyone has a better concept get at me.

yes Whistler is busy but it's still glorious. I was there over Christmas, skied 16 days in the last month and had some amaaaazing days. Including one full day of lapping lakeside because no one else was skiing it! I've been skiing Whis my whole life and this last month was the best I've ever had. I just can't get over it.
For whoever asked, I go to Golden maybe once or twice a month, or at least drive through there on the way to Revy or to go touring at Rogers Pass. Most of our trips are pretty spontaneous but I'll try to let people know if we have extra space. Possibility of a day trip this weekend.
JD, how was sunshine? I bet you were disappointed! Once you're used to Whistler almost nothing compares.

Why thank you. For my understanding, Kicking Horse is about to get dumped on. I'm supposed to be heading up on Friday night with a friend, but if she can't get the day off, and you have space, would it be possible for a ride in?

And although I'm not J.D, I wasn't disappointed in Sunshine. I haven't skied there in like 9 years. Went yesterday. It was nice, sunny, soft with some fresh snow here and there. Had such a fun day. I am excited for my next trip, it can't compare to Kicking Horse though, unless I take up some of that crazy terrain which I'm just dying to do.

Shine was okay. I wasn't down for anything strenuous anyway so I didn't exactly charge. Give me a shout whenever you want to go somewhere, I'm ready on short notice.

J.D. not sure if your into park but if so check out http://www.shtchea.com for updates on the parks. sometimes there are even good videos of just riding around to give you an idea of the snow up at any of the resorts.

Not too much into park aside from messing around when it's spring and slushy. I'm pretty bad at it.

Good day Sat at Shine, 4th chair up goat's eye, 25cmish, first run was trees I was later informed is called "Hell's Kitchen". Got pretty rocky later in the day though, there's not much coverage. Scoped some decent looking spots but I imagine locals have better ideas.

Anyone driving anywhere this weekend?

Im gonna be driving through calgary at the end of this week into interior bc wherever the pow is. If anybody needs a ride gimme a shout.
