im looking to start up skating and i need some help choosing the right brand for deck. Im looking for 1. durability 2. pretty poppy 3. light weight. Any skaters out there willing to help? +k for helpful ppl

Hi. I have a 7.75 sized deck frome happy hour and i have been pretty happy with it. The most differnese in weight you will notice with your trucks. Butt remember the deck is not everything just practice and you will eventually get good. Good Luck.

the overall size/shape of deck matching your preferences>>>>>>>the company that makes the deck

for the longest time i was riding a 7.5" because i was a fool. after i finally snapped it last summer i upgraded to an 8" which fits my style of riding and my clown shoes much better.

My favorite decks to ride are Girl. I rode a 7.75 for a long time. Now I ride an 8.

for trucks I ride the Tensor Magnesium (Mags) Light weight and durable.

Wheels I ride Ricta. Label is always in... never out (my preference)

Grizzly Grip Tape

I almost forgot the bearings... I ride Bones Reds. Some people prefer the Swiss but I'd just rather buy new bearings more often.

Unless you're pretty small, I'd go with a 8"+ deck, but it's up to you. You're eventually going to be switching to larger width, so you might as well start out on an 8". For brands I'd recommend these smaller independent brands like fucking awesome, polar skate co, heroin, palace, welcome, 3D, Magenta. You can always go the typical bigger brands like girl, primitive, real, skate mental, flip, deathwish, baker, almost, etc. I'd go with a smaller brand if I were you, but ou can't go wrong with most of these brands listed but I've been riding polars for the past year. It's more important to find the right shape and size that works for you. For wheels just go with some bones, and go independent with trucks.

Thanks for the help ill make sure to look into these brands and yeah ill probably get an 8

Brand doesn't really matter just find something between a 7.75 and an 8 with a concave you like in a complete from a skateshop and not target

The bigger the deck the harder it is to get off the ground but the easier it is to land. The smaller the deck the easier it is to get off the ground but the harder it is to land. I skate a small board because i hate having to carry around a big setup. The wheels are the most important for me cuz montreal streets suck and powerslides are quite amusing

the following was found in the getting started: skateboarding thread by jakeassbeatclap. google it if you want more but this is what ya need

I work for skate warehouse. I have good advice. It's my job, i get asked this question every day at work.

The only sure things in skateboarding are wheels bearings and size of the deck. the other shit people tell you is all opinion.

Indy's are some of the best trucks around but there are other great brands. I have been skateboarding 12 years and i only ride Krux, thunders are great, tensor, indy, thieve. There are other good companies in the end you just gotta try some out and find whats best for you.

As for the deck he is right you're gonna want an 8.0 or larger since you have size thirteen shoes you can ride an 8.5 like I ride an 8 but if I were you I'd go for an 8.125 or an 8.25. Shop decks are fine and supportive, but there is nothing wrong in buying a solid brand name deck, I love habitat and alien, heroin skateboards are tight, stereo, real, i mean the list goes on those are my personal preferences that's another thing about skating you figure out shapes and sizes and nose and tail sizes that you prefer. Oval noses or snubbed noses. That all comes with time, for a beginner go shop deck and play it safe.

DON'T JUST GET BLANK NO BRAND WHEELS

people say "oh you're just beginning you dont need name brand wheels the graphics gonna rub off anyway."

WRONG, blank wheels are cheaply made with cheap urethane, the urethane they use will yellow fast and get flat spots incredibly fast. Just pay the extra ten dollars and buy a set of bones. I shit you not bones is the only wheel I recommend. They last long, never flat spot, stay white, they are the highest quality wheel. as for size of the wheel go with a 53 mm it's a nice all around wheel, on the streets, in the park, or in some deep tranny you will be solid.

Bearings, always swear by bones reds, most consistent long lasting fast bearing ever constructed, they're the shit, literally not worth getting anything else with quality and a price like bones reds bearings. Nothing comes close.

hard ware, don't get colorful ass hardware like some sort of foofy fuck boy, you don't wanna go to the park sucking it up only to have rainbow colored nuts and bolts. The mexican kids will shit on you. I don't care where you live either, there will be some sort of mexican lurking your local park beign a fucker. Thats as certain as the sun will rise tomorrow.

Grip tape, go with MOB baby because it's the grippiest toughest and longest lasting.

I'm trying to remember anything I may have forgotten but I think this is a solid guide for anyone wanting to start out.

If anyone needs skateboarding advice on anything related to skating; shoes to ride, spots nearby, want to share some skate edits, or maybe you want to know how to stomp those bomb ass dank ass nollie tre's with speed and steez in front of hot bitches near your school. Just send me a PM.

Yeah dude they're definitely the most gangster team in the game.

I actually dig it in skating a lot more than snowboarding. Seems a little less out of ace since skateboarding is more accessible and is really in the streets. Super down with JSLV Sk8mafia DGK Gold Wheels all that shit, the skaters that ride for them fucking kill it.

your deck doesn't really matter too much. go to a local shop and buy a shop deck. they'll be about 10-15 bucks cheaper than a deck from a big name company. and for sizing, it's really up to you. i ride an 8.25 or 8.38 and i think those are perfect for me (i don't do a lot of flip tricks, mostly bowl/transition skating), but you might have smaller feet or want something easier to flip around. some of my friends ride 8.5s, i even have some friends on 8.9s, it's really personal preference. it might take you a couple tries to find the width that you like and stick with. weight and pop will be pretty comparable between most decks. obviously wider decks will weigh more, but to be honest a lot of the weight comes from wheels. big wheels will weigh down your board. i ride 54mm or so and think it's a good fit.

Yeah dude dgk and gold wheels are basically the same teams it's kinda like baker and deathwish or deathwish and supra. Although I do have to say sk8mafia decks are just total pieces of shit.

Here is a tip. Drop the skateboard and buy a razor scooter. Best form of transportation out there. Here is why

1) you look like a badass

2) you will get tons of bitchz

3) they are easy to ride

4) can ride in any weather

5) more of a tip than reason but who cares, I hope you have shins of steel
