Starting to longboard?

ok everyday after school i have to bus to the mall, and skate about 10 minutes (100%)downhill home. this saves me a 40 minute walk. right now i have a skateboard to use which does the job but isnt amzing its kinda bumpy. how much is a cheap longboard for beginners that is small-er(so i can fit it in my locker)?

what are some good brands,

and is longboarding gay? should i stick to skate boarding

btw i dont skate at all except when i use it for transportational purposes.

if you wanna carry it around get a shortboard. but if you want a really great time get a full sized

check out

loadedboards.com (expensive but quality)

sector9skateboards.com (great boards i have one and i love it to death plus its way cheaper then loaded)

theres plenty of longboard choices just search around

welcome aboard!!

if you dont want to spend a ton of money on a longboard just get longboarding wheels for your skateboard and get thicker risers so you dont get wheel bite

but if your good at making stuff look into building your own deck I made mine and I love it I had all the materials to build it laying around in my garage and I just bought the trucks, wheels and bearing for $100

what he said, but take caution if you're gonna make your own board. only the highest quality plywood compares to boards made by companies. if you are just gonna make a deck out of some plank and are happy with that, then cool.

if you choose to buy one, do not skimp on your board. if you're gonna put money into something that isn't hellishly expensive, you may as well get it right. randall r-2s and some nice wheels should set you straight.

check out the spliff (31 in), i just got one with randal II's and it is the best commuting board ive ever ridden.

rides downhill like a 45 inch board and turns like a 30 inch board without being twitchy at speed.

all of that and its small enough to carry around, plus you get to completly customize the graphics, bustins a dope ass company and you should deff consider them

not quite

get a sector nine, theyre good beginner boards for decent prices. heres a good site to get them from:

snapspeed.com

you could learn how to skateboard down this hill and powerslide and ollie sewer grates and on and off curbs and have way more fun than a longboard.
plus you wouldnt look like a dweeb.

Actually no, they are far from the best board you can get, period.

They snap, they are made from low-quality wood and are pretty boring designs.

Actually yes, they are. Do better exist? Yes, for twice as much money if not more.

I've owned my Kracked Skulls for two years and I beat it to shit. I bail on huge hills and it crashes into shit constantly. I live in Burlington which is basically an enormous hill so to control my speed I'm always riding up on the grass, running over sticks and all sorts of shit. I hop around on it, do stupid shit with it all the time... and all it has are a few chips on the nose and a fuckton of scrapes on the bottom. They're durable as hell, they do not snap...

As for the designs... who cares? Make your own design. I bought grip tape and cut out pieces of it and made my own custom design, way cooler than getting a premade one from a company. Stuck some stickers on that bad boy and now it looks dope as fuck, took like an hour of my time. I may even remove the trucks and paint them metalllic green. Saves money, and it's custom.

Most importantly, however, they ride like a dream. Having the trucks mounted through makes it low to the ground which gives you more confidence and makes it more stable at high speeds. Sure, other companies do that, but it's rare and usually much more expensive. They carve nasty as shit, and they're just smooth, fun-ass boards. Don't knock what you don't know. Every person who's ridden mine says it's one of the best they've ever ridden. Here's some pictures to prove that you can make it look sweet with minimal effort... I love my KS board, and so will anyone who buys one.
