Starting over...

I'm going to post this and hopefully not get hassled...

So, I just started skiing this season (actually Thursday) after an 11 year hiatus. I took a lesson (like most suggested I do) and picked it up pretty quickly. I made it off the bunny slope, which was practically packed ice by time I arrived, and skied a few green trails (also ice) and got really comfortable after a while. I was able to get the hang of parallel turns and power sliding after a while mainly because I was picking up such ridiculous speed, I had no choice but.

Anyway, I found I really enjoyed speed and the few bumps at the bottom of the hill were fucking great! I want to get to the park and hit something bigger next time I'm out (next week), but what should I know before I step up? I'm not too interested in rails yet. I just want air really.

Sorry for the long ass post. I didn't realize I was still typing.

Peace.

If you wanna start spinnin and stuff practice spinning with shoes on on flat ground that helped me tons

first make sure you truly can control ur speed before you jump or you will hurt yourself. the biggest mistakes people make are trying to stop too quickly cos they all of a sudden have more speed tnan they can handle.

if you are hitting jumps, hit it at a controlled speed but pop (like jumping on flat ground) as you leave the lip.

too many people hit the jump and either hit it too fast and try and suck up the lip, or just fly off without doing anything with theyre legs. its the pop that allows you to be balance in the air. dont lean back off the jump, dont pencil out, stay knees up and compact in the air.

and lastly, dont try to scrub speed as soon as you land. commit to your landing, get balanced, then start turning again - this is why its important to know you can be comfortable with speed.

if nothing else, start small and work up.

best of luck bro.

Excellent pointers bros. I appreciate... I most definitely shall start small though. I'm going to spend the whole morning next time I'm out working on my turns and speed (there's this hill with a nice little natural hit at my mountain)... Then, I'll hit the park. And, shit... There's still a first time for everything, right?

id say make sure you have your own skis. i dont know if you were using rentals or not but if you use rentals in the park then the ski patrol might kick u out, at least at my hill

make sure you know the park etiquette for sure. don't stand on the landings, because you might get landed on, and that sucks, and people get mad. Like someone else said, remember to pop. Make sure that you don't ski the park all day too. You want to be a good all around skier, and not just be able to go jump to jump. Park is fun, but remember to actually ski sometimes too. And remember that speed is your friend, if you can control it. If you are casing a jump and it hurts, I know a lot of new people think that if they go faster, it will hurt more. But if you go faster and hit the landing, it is smooth and is fine. (better for your knees too!). Start out small and work your way up. Good luck

to ski park all you need to know is the skills of sideslipping and stopping.

if you can get that down then you're on your way to that switch 10 (double grab).

If you are gonna hit a jump, shoulder check first, then say "dropping". Start slow, and don't go too into it at first. after you nail landings. Start trying straight airs, (grab under your binding with same hand).
