starting out guitar

if your just startin out you might wanna get a cheap acoustic.. then if you start gettin good and you still like it get like a ibanez or fender squire... n then if you start gettin really good you can spend a whole 1200$ on like a fender stratocastor

Get a friend who knows guitars, then go to lots of pawn shops. lots are shit, and lots are too expensive, but if you take the friend who knows guitars, you might be able to find a wicked deal.

man no lie, Walmart has two guitar packages (one electric and one acustic). I think retail on both is $99. Which is a pretty awesome price, plus I played one the other day and they are sweet. I mean they are not a martin or anything, but better than the $200 or $300 ones in music stores.

here is the link to an acustic Click here

Another acustic Click here

And the electic < a href ='http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?product_id=1762017&cat=106982&type=1&dept=3944&path=0%3A3944%3A106982> click here

thats pretty good for that price

i got a american strat, expencive, but nice

if you want a 4 string bass i got one for sale but if you want an electric guitar their are ones in radioshack for liek 99 dollers or something like that my friend had one of them and they were half deicent for learning on... but if you want to start with a better guitar try and get liek a BC rich guitar with a Vox amp that has the best sound that i'v ever heard for gitar

TheSaying Around Here Is:

Go Big Or Go HOME

ok, first off, what kind of price range are you looking at? second, are you looking to get really into the guitar or just play it like once a week. anyway, i'd suggest an epiphone sg. i myself have a gibson sg and the epiphone is the little brother of the gibson. it's a great guitar and the price is right at $145. it's the kind of guitar that's great for a beginner, but also one you'll be able to play once you get really good. as far as an amp goes, i'd suggest a roland cube amp. it's a great little 15w amp with lots of sound in it. plus it has built in distortions. anyway, i think that's the best way to go. all together it will cost you about $250, but it's well worth it if you're going to be serious about guitar.

concept dude, you're getting ripped off. squire's are pieces of shit. plus it's a kind of guitar that's just made for beginners, you wont be able to advance with it at all. go for an epiphone if you're going to spend that much money.

dont get a guitar thats too shitty or u wont have fun at all. maybe start with a cheap ibanez or yamaha acoustic. also how serious are u and wat are ur music tastes

Some folks look for answers, others look for fights

if youve never had experience with music before, it could be hard, but just learn some chords and pentatonic scales and youll be playin in not time

Fuck You

Both factors (guitar and lessons) depend on two things.

If you're not too sure you're going to keep playing, or if your budget is tight, go with a cheap acoustic guitar. Then, after a year or two, if you really like it, go either with a well-priced electric or a very good acoustic, depending on if you want to start electric or keep going acoustic.

As for lessons, ask yourself this. Do you just want to have fun, play popular songs for friends or a band, or do you want to do that, but also know the theory behind all the chords (major, minor, seventh, ninth, augmented, diminished, etc...) and scales to eventually become a really accomplished player? If it's the first one, you can just take one or two lessons to know the basic chords and one or two scales to jam. You'll then be able to buy or download tabs and learn songs by yourself. If its the second one, then take lessons regularly, you'll eventually become much better.

A tip: don't give up after a few weeks because you find it boring or too hard. Eventually you'll never be able to stop playing, and you'll never be bored again.

1. Start on an acoustic guitar, if you can play it on that, you can play it on an electric.

2. Take a few lessons to learn a few scales, exercises, etc.

3. Buy guitar magazines, read the articles, tips, and lessons.

4. Only buy an electric guitar when you are good enough for one. Start off with a Fender Squire Stratocaster probably, packages are around $200. Other than that, guitars are personal buys, same with equipment.

Start out a couple months renting a Squire. It is the typical beginner guitar and it isnt bad for rent. If you decide that you like to play, move it up to something and buy yourself a good 400 or 500 dollar guitar. I started this way about 7 years ago and just sold the guitar I bought, it was a Gibson Epiphone GS. If you wanna learn its easier to learn on an electric too and then buy an acoustic. You CAN teach yourself, but its not bad to take lessons for at least a couple months to get some of the basics down, or at least to the point where you can teach yourself by ear. Reading guitar music is different than your band music shit too. Most of the stuff you will find online is tabs, which is very self explanitory. Good luck!

We'll have you dead pretty soon.

take sum lessons till you get good enough to play chords and stuff smoothley, and read tabs well - after that you can progress on your own by learning new songs from tabs, or you might find you like lessons. As for a guitar, renting for the first bit is a good idea, because if u get a junker guitar you'll be stuck with a junker guitar for a long while.

fuck lessons, use your ears and watch people play guitar

lessons are so vital... If you are devoted lessons can help you alot. Just learning tabs and shit is no where near as fulfilling as knowing tons of scales and all the theory behind it. that's when you can start to write your own music and learn to just jam to blues and jazz and stuff like that.

is u fuck lessons u will end up playin power chords and thinkin u r good when u arent. i would deffinatly encourage lessons yo.

and get a pedal. I got a multieffects pedal for pretty cheap, and i plug it straight into my head phones, so you can rock out, and sound wicked and no one can hear you if you suck, so it keeps the ol self esteem intact.

start on acoustic, teach yourself, then after quite some time, once you're good, get a nice quality electric (Fender American Stratocaster). it's what i did and i've been playing 7 years now. just learn basic scales and your blues shit, and your penatonic scales, and you're off on the right track
