hello to all of you skiers snowboarders and anyone else I'm starting an outerwear company and this is a thread for you guys to just tell me what you want cause I'll hopefully be getting it out for next year so just tell me what you want.

sounds good what about like number of pockets, colorways, light or heavy, number of vents, etc. cause I wanna have a company that all skiers will want and will like and at a price that is affordable for most.

Makes sense to ask your audience for what they want, problem is that they are more or less creating a jacket for you, when they could just make it themselves kind of deal.

It's probably best to figure out how you are going to be making said jackets, find yourself a name what YOU want to do, design something then ask for criticism. Take from that what you can, make some minor adjustments, then get them made.

well company name has already been decided Real Time Outerwear just looking for some ideas cause I have to get adobe illustrator to design more or less. So this page is really to get your opinions then get your criticism.

Every few days people post threads about how they are starting a new outwear or clothing company. 99% of them never go through with it, and even if they do, it almost never ends up working out.

Now that being said, I think if you are very serious about this, instead of asking what your company should be like, ask what they want to see in future gear. It's your company, not theirs. Understand what the industry wants, and turn it into your own style.

not bad advice thanks dude and look for real time cause im very serious about this I'm alreadying planning to go to China to have it mass produced once we have tested out the prototypes.

Pockets on the jackets outside: 3 or 4

Pockets on inside: 2

Vents: One under each am

Colors: Solid or close to solid with very little crazy designs

another highschool kid trying to start a company.

not impossible, but i can almost guarantee this will not work.

unless mommy and daddy are loaded^.

I would dig something like, purple jacket and maybe black pockets and hood, no big logos, not too many bright color combos, keep it simple and try to get you're own design, pants need to be solid colours.

A few tips.

Starting a company is a big project, if this is something you're serious about doing that is awesome!

Start going into shops and looking at all of the different types of clothing, you need to find a way to differentiate your company.

Talk to clothing buyers at shops, they are your customers, ask them what works and what they like.

Then talk to the people that will be using the gear, this is a great forum for doing so.

Make some friends at a fashion design school, they'll help you source materials, and make up your first samples.

Once you have samples, get your intended end customer to wear it and use it, what works what doesn't; fit, pockets etc..

Everything listed above is the easy stuff, now it starts to get hard..

I don't know your financial situation but your going to need a lot of money, over a million dollars for sure, sourcing materials, manufacturing, marketing, website, staff, travel, trade shows etc...

Good Luck, any questions advice shoot me an email.

Hey man I dont get why these people are so negative. I would throw in a lot of options. make enough sizes so people can wear them baggy. make a lot of solid colors, but throw in some crazier designs. After that, just see what people like and continue from there.

id say a colored jacket with black pockets is sick. No hood is stupid, when have you ever seen a jacket without a hood. Make the logos any size, just not distracting. Pants do not need to be solid colors, i really like black and white pants.

tall fit

underarm vents

3-4 exterior pockets

2-3 interior pockets

fully taped seams

waterproof zippers

15k/15k+ no less this is a huge deciding factor for alot of people

solid/semi solid colors and no fluorescent colors

handcuffs in sleeves

adjustable wrist holes

all logos/text embroidered

no huge logos

no colorful logos

good, durable materials

pass pocket with plastic window for scanning

either zipper or zipper+snaps for pockets, not just snaps

and finally, something to set you apart from other companies

obviously not everything i listed above is even close to reachable financially for a first year startup company but that is just a list of things that I as well as the majority of others like to see in a good piece of outerwear

this might be the funniest reply on here and no to all of those, because it's just stupid to do all of that honestly and put it in an edit then make an apology about it seriously but I must admit you can't pass up shooting random signs :)

Don't be an ass. If this guy is serious about starting a company he needs motivation and support, not criticism. For all we know he could start making the sickest outerwear out.

Plenty of outerwear companies doing good work.
Don't jump in unless you've got something serious to add. Nothing worse than five companies offering the same product.
