Star Wars: The Force Awakens Discussion [SPOILERS

- yeah did feel a bit choppy

- definitely a karaoke on ep4 (that description used by ozzy man in his nice review)

- Abrams said the goal of the movie was to delight the audience and run the film according to how it would make the audience feel

- Disney will milk franchise and could run many sequels

Annoyed that storyline was too free.. should've followed what Lucas previously established or thought during conceiving the series. That's Disney but freedom was needed to make a good film.

Rey will have relations with Finn or Luke.

Kylo Ren will get killed by Rey or Luke. Or he will kill Snoke and "finish what Vader started."

Luke may commit suicide or die fighting Kylo Ren to join with the force and become a guide.

Rey's parents might well be Luke (the obvious choice) but really could come from anywhere, eg Obi Wan, Leia.

First Order still wants to kill Luke, even as a symbol.

Kylo Ren is not that powerful, there must be other Sith. Female Sith?

Vader may have had his sperm frozen and used to create a Sith army.

Maybe Kylo will propagate his sperm in new ways in a "mad scientist" experiment.

New Yoda figure to emerge.

I think ep3 was my favourite.. it was very dramatic the way Palpatine turned the stormtroopers on his own allies.

Finn creates rap group with BiggieSmalls and Tupac progeny and converts all stormtroopers to the light?

I liked the movie a lot, even though it was a clear adaptation of a new hope which I understand the reasoning behind. I think in the next two movies there is a lot more room to take the story in a more original direction.

Predictions:

Rey being lukes daughter is far too predictable, I think she is either Leia's dauggter born from midichlorians like anakin after her and han split, or more likely she could be a kenobi.

The next movie will begin with flashbacks to fill in the gaps that are left unclear from this episode. IE how maz got ahold of the lightsaber, whatever the hell happened with han and leia, how the first order came to power etc...

The darth plagueis theory for snoke could be true but I think more likely he is a completely new character.

Darth maul or boba fett comeback?

Finn is force sensitive, though it may be too late for him to train under the ways of the jedi

Rey may have been previously trained by luke but had her memory wiped? Would explain so much and eliminate a lot of the plot holes

Hopefully yoda or qui gon or windu or someone cool will be able to have an appearance through a force presence

And like a lot of others have said, my biggest gripe with the film was that they had to blow up another death star for the third fucking time. I mean I get the nostalgic aspect and all that but really? I feel like they could have cut that entire scene all together and replaced it with something more original, or at least a cool battle scene. Not only was it an excessive repeat, it was hugely unrealistic with the whole solar charge system I mean if that weapon drained all the energy from the sun there would be no light or heat in that system at all, and everybody would die on the spot. Idk just thinking logically. Im eager to give the movie another watch regardless, acting and character development was spot on and I think the foundation has been layed for a really great story, as long as disney and rian johnson dont fuck it up.

That happened in Bourne Identity and Total Recall... when some character woke up with these strong attack abilities.

Plot twist: she is a reincarnatation of Obi Wan. Kylo is a reincarnation of Vader. Reincarnation a new theme?

Who were Obi Wan/Windu/Qui-Gon's progeny?

I first thought finn could somehow be related to mace windu, mostly because we havent seen a lot of black characters in the universe hahah, but I hope he is his own guy, not everyone needs to be a descendent of an already established character.

Anyone else think how crazy it is that the First Order was able to carve and build a gigantic "death star"- style weapon into a fucking planet?? In 30 years?? And not to mention that that they said that it is built with hyperspace technology so they can drive the whole planet around the galaxy like its a star ship. Mind blown.

Bruh, it's a movie so yes, I can believe how crazy it was. Also, it's set in an alternate universe, so who even knows if carving a lazer into a planet is that hard to do.

I enjoyed the film, but it was just a copy of the first one: a droid lands on a planet containing a message, the main character is an orphan who lives on the middle-east of planets, evil cunt dressed in black wearing a mask who has a master with a horrible skin condition, a family connection between the antagonists and protagonists, old white guy serving as a mentor to the hero who gets killed, a fucking planet that fires a laser beam, an evil order vs a group of rebels.

It's a remake. Not a sequel.

Very well said.

Its kind of wierd how kylo ren has crazy force powers and skills like stopping a blaster but gets rekt by someone who has never picked up a lighsaber before

Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but did anyone else pick up on when kylo ren was reading rey's mind he mentioned an "island in the middle of the ocean" when he was saying her thoughts? And where was like when they found him? An island in the middle of the ocean

So rey subconsciously knew where luke was, any of you guys got theories for that?

We are supposed to assume she is very strong with the force, same way anakin could predict padme's early death.

And for the whole why kylo didnt wreck rey issue, he might not want to kill her yet or at all, we dont know. While he was fighting her he was also trying to convert her to the darkside.

It's a remake. Not a sequel.

Remake would have had the same characters in the same roles. They weren't trying to trick anyone about the plot. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that it contains elements of the first movie.

It was almost a scene for scene remake of the original. I laughed in disappointment. It was as unoriginal as a Michael Bay sequel.

I think one of the reasons they went for that was to keep old fans happy, they already made 3 original movies and they were all shot down by the fans. They knew the episode 4 formula got people into the franchise in 1977, so maybe they did a similar story to get new fans hooked? Thats the logical way of looking at it i guess, i think that the next ones will be more original now that theyve built up a new fan base with this one

Who cares if it wasn't the most original movie ever. You're paying like 11 bucks to go see a movie. And although there was similarities it was pretty different as well. The first time I saw the movie I was getting a new hope feel, but the second and third time I watched it I was getting less and less of a new hope.

Okay so a script for episode 7 just surfaced. And it will probably answer some questions. Mostly how Rey was able to battle with Kylo. When Kylo killed his father, he went into shock and was "profoundly affected" by killing him.

so what would be in the script for episode 7 that wasnt in the movie explaining these things?

You do realize scripts have acting queues and directions for the actors right??? Not just words...

yes, but i'm having a hard time believing it explains a lot of things like "how Rey was able to battle with Kylo. When Kylo killed his father, he went into shock and was "profoundly affected" by killing him." it's not going to say "Rey summons the ghost of ben kenobi to use the force," "kylo has an emo tantrum and cuts himself after han dies" or anything dumb like that. i guess i'll have to see it to believe it.

I enjoyed the film, don't get me wrong, but the story telling just seems exceptionally sloppy. Look at it from the characters(villians) point of view. The empire built a Death Star which got destroyed. What was their response? Build a bigger Death Star which, again, got destroyed. Now what do General Snoke and the First Order do? Build an even bigger Death, which, gasp! gets destroyed. It just seems like the lowest common denominator writing.

I see where you're coming from and many people do have the same issues with the movie. But how are you meant to have an empire that rules the galaxy without a massive weapon??? It's clear that the first order doesn't have that many followers that aren't brainwashed so they need brute fear to run shit.

I'd rather watch episode 7 over the prequels any day of the week.

13595192:cornholio said:
that didn't really have anything more than what you posted, so i'm thinking the script doesn't have any major giveaways that weren't in the film.

Well no, but the script does have acting queues and instructions for the actors.

yes, we've been over this. i just don't see how an acting cue would explain or answer any of the plot-related story questions. we'll just agree to disagree on this one

I feel like it laid the groundwork for a good trilogy (or 4 or 5 or whatever), which is exactly what the prequels did so badly.

I finally was able to see the movie yesterday. I was waiting for my fiance to be able to see the original three before going together. I'm a big Star Wars fan and I loved it almost as much as Empire Strikes Back.

To all the people hating on Kylo Ren as a villain:

First of all, the battle between he and Rey...

Kylo was shot by Chewies fucking crossbow when he was on the bridge. They set this scene up earlier in the movie showing how powerful the crossbow is. Han tries it and comments how powerful it is and in later battles it blows up stone structures and fucking destroys stormtroopers... blowing their armor all over the battlefield.

Kylo is so powerful of a force user that getting hit with this crazy powerful crossbow doesn't even knock him off the bridge, but does wound him pretty badly. You can see him trying to fight back his limp when he's out in the snow, and they show the blood dripping down off of him. So this sets the scene for his battle with Rey, he's all bloodied up after being shot by a weapon that literally blows up buildings and stormtroopers.

Now, Rey has never used a lightsaber before, but she's no stranger to combat. In the beginning of the film she shows her skills absolutely wrecking shit with her staff. Her staff isn't a lightsaber, but I'm sure the skills translate. Couple that with her emerging force abilities and yes, she's an admirable opponent.

So I think we can all agree at this point that Kylo is not a bitch fighter. He fought through a wound from a weapon that blew up buildings... let's keep that clear.

As for Kylo being a little emo. What did you expect after finding out he's in the Skywalker bloodline? Luke was a teen bitch in A New Hope, Anakin was a little bitch the entire prequels. It only makes sense that Kylo is a little emo. And of all of them it almost makes the most sense for him to be emo. His father and mother are two of the greatest heroes in the galaxy, his uncle and grandfather are two of the most powerful jedi/sith ever. It's setting him up to be the classic "will this kid live up to the expectations of his predecessors." Anyone would be a little distraught over these expectations and its clear why he's easily swayed to the dark side.

I think Kylo is one of the best developed villains in a long time. It's not just "oh he's the bad guy we're supposed to expect him to be evil." He has a really developed character so far and I'm really excited to see where his arc goes. After killing Han I expect him to be cold and ruthless in the next movie, closer to how Vader acted in the original trilogy.

Just saw the movie yesterday in IMAX 3D and it was awesome.

Pretty sure Rey's parent is Luke, or could be one of his padawans he was training. I'm fairly certain that her dad is Luke though. Just because she is stronger in the force than Kylo Ren and it seemed like she hasn't really had any training. She fucking kicked major ass flying the millennium falcon. Pretty sure she used the force in that epic tie fighter fight when Fins gun was jammed.

The Episode 7 script was released to the Writers Guild and this article brings up some interesting points about.

Also, in this article it says Abrams read the Ep8 script and regrets not writing it because it is so incredible, it also says Disney has allocated a new writing and directing team for Ep 8.

Anyhow, I just created a bunch of 11 pics for Star Wars: Impossible Redemption (an idea for the next episode)..

dude wow. I hated three things in this movie and those were two of them and you exlained them perfectly. thank you.

fuck that tangerine thing with glasses that was another waste of time. I despised how she was keeping the lightsaber in such an open spot literally perched in the middle of a room underneath a bar that is frequented by degenerates and scum. How has no one ventured into that room all drunk off blue milk and thought "holy shit this looks like a great place to piss" and then found the saber. hated that bugged me for so long.

Favourite part was Finn. the actor was very impressive and I really liked that they added his humour and bumbling idiot side quite a bit. That line when he stands up and infront of Rey is like "yes...yes im with the resistance" like hes gonna get some.

overall very hyped and although the movie was a complete remake of A New Hope, it got me real fired up for more star wars and was very good at immersing me in that world.

Honestly, I didnt really like the movie (hence it came out on my birthday). The plot was predictable and it seems to me its just a movie company making money off of an overly predictable plot and awesome 3D feels. Its just like any other "popular" movie out there. Boring. Repetitive. Money making.
