You get a free pass... you get staff housing... you get staff discounts 'all over the village'... you get a long poll up the ass. Who cares about benefits if your manager is just going to use them against you and terrorize you with them if you show up 1 minute late for work, or don't show 'company moral'. What is company moral anyways? I seemed to think it was being a loyal employee who didn't steal, respected his workmates, and produced a good product. However, Intrawest seems to think I'm wrong. They're definition?: Walking around with a perma-grin even if you've just had your pass suspended, for um, wait...what was it suspended for again?.. Oh that's right, nothing, just another Terror suspension so that you break down to that Australian Protocol they're so keen on enforcing. Anyways, enough ranting, I think everyone knows all this already (unless you're a manager and have had it brainwashed out of you by now)... oh and thanks for that lovely Staff house,er, dirty 'maintance' raided shit hole of a closet you supply as a benefit.

ya it pisses me off. All the major resorts in BC all have australian workers. They make up the entire work force basically. There are no jobs left for the local people because the owners are cheap and dont want to pay people as much as they deserve so they hire austrilians who are willing to work for nothin. Its bullshit I say.

i worked for them last year, and didn't like it. never felt apreciated for the $9.00/hr. glad it was only 1 season, i would rather buy my lift ticket then get a free one from them. i couldn't agree more with you.

its like that everywhere, nelson is the only place in bc that I'v been to that wasnt over populated with accents, when I first moved out here it took me sooo long to get a job and everywhere you look there'd be an incompitant aussi with the job I'd applied for.. its horse shit I agree.

Yes Graham, I actually do. I have a sweet job, and since I'm only in it for the pass, definitely not the money, it works for me. Last I heard you don't even work for the company, so what have they done to you that's so bad?

 
maybe its ur attitude why u didint get a job... maybe that aussie was imcompetant but ill bet he was doing his job with a smile. unlike u... he/she was probably grateful for that shitty job u didnt even want in the first place. theres better jobs out there than working for the mtn that supply a free pass.. get off ur ass and look for them. theyre out there... or volly for the mtn. at least u dont have to live in the ghetto :p

 
^ I cant believe you attacked my attitude, I was simply replying to the comment made about forginers getting jobs before locals, I just used aussies as an example.. didnt mean to single them out.. working and skiing sucks, I'v learnt to work all summer and take the winter off.. has worked good so far.

Not all entry level mountain jobs are bad. there are a few cool managers out there. And no, I dont work for Intrawest anymore. I've just heard many more bad stories than good about the way staff has been treated and I'm betting that the employee opinion survey reflects that opinion too.

i agree intrawest sucks.. they just made us do some employee survey crap. and well its safe to say my whole department fucking reemed into those answers to show how uniporessed we are. i work 12.5 hours a night for that goddamn company and all they can pay me is 10 bucks an hour to freeze my ass off and work like a dog. they seem to be able to bend whatever rules they want. not to mention somewho always fucking up the pay roll, arent they supposed to be such a huge great company well then fuck staff it with proper people and make it easier for the 'employee voice' to be heard. ya theres the cabin but most complaints dont even get a second look. they dont really care. fucking intrawest if it wasnt for the shitty snow year i wouldnt have to be working for them, worst company ever and im defiantly going to make a scene my last week of work. should be fun.

surprisingly enough they do pretty well in the employee survey thingees... not great but pretty decent. i remember from when i worked for em... dont like ur job... get a new one... theres tons of job in the vill (think hotels) that provide a pass or subsidize one... and ull be able to ride more too!

 
I liked my job at w/b. Had a good manager, was treated pretty well, got slightly more than minimum wage, learned a few things and even felt like my input mattered and my work was appreciated.

But then again, watching ski movies at work while eating a free lunch is hard to think poorly of.

get this!! Intrawest charge more for staff housing per room then the chateau and we rent the buildings from intrawest

at the chateau they also get benefits... better pay (also a pass) etc... who cares... get a job with them then and quit ur whining. or better yet... move to a non intrawest ski town.
