St. Mikes vs. UVM

academically, socially, skiing, all around comparison. im just trying to make the decisions easier. pretty neutral right now so i would like some opinions. THANKS! +k for help

i go to smc. if you like a small school comprised of preppy people, lax bros, girls who all wear the same thing and a incestual (a word?) hook up circle then you will fit right in here.

academically wise, i enjoy the classes here because the majors are all smaller and you get to know everyone studying the same thing as you. the classes are smaller, like 15-20 people, but some can be bigger depending on your major. the teachers are all nice and respected for the most part. i like the smaller classes better in this sense because i dont get lost in 50 students trying to learn the same thing and actually make a relationship with my professor.

a major downside is you are stuck on campus a lot of the time and it can be quite consuming. although burlington is 10 mins away, its not always easy to just stop in for a night, especially if you dont have a car. smc is often referred to as "the bubble".

if you are a social person and enjoy drinking every night, you will do fine here.

im not from VT but smc is giving me way more scholarship. uvm is giving the most they can give an "out of stater". financially smc is cheaper due to scholarship but money isnt really an issue. i have never really heard anyone say they dont love UVM.. but i hear a bunch of people say they dont like SMC.. this scares me. please help

are you going up to the St. Mikes accepted Students day this saturday? it would be dope to meet some kids who are on NS that want to go to st Mikes

A bunch of kids from my high school go to UVM and absolutely love it there. I love UConn, but if I had it to do over I'd probably choose to go to UVM in all honesty.

I looked at both but decided on Champlain College instead. I really didn't like the campus of st mikes when i visited. I was gettin weird vibes from the students there, no offense to anyone who goes there.

sorry for bumping this up, but just wondering what your decision was and how you like the school?

thanks!

St Mikes has a weird vibe, UVM is expensive, Champlain is kinda weird academically and LSU is kinds shitty apparently.

of the 4, UVM or SMU is your best..

yes i know this old

OP im wondering the same shit.. very relevant

for those who go to either, how is the party scene? id imagine for st mikes everyone knows each other better so that must be cool, but uvm seems like it would have bangers. also whats the bud scene like

Peyton goes to St Mikes and as far as I know he loves it. Then again I think Peyton loves everything.

I checked out both, along with champlain and i agree st mikes had a wierd vibe, almost felt like a boarding high school. champlain felt the same way, maybe just because its so small. fucking loved uvm, out of state tuition is a lot doe

I'm a freshman at Saint Mike's and I really like it here. Going to a school with 15,000 others would have overwhelmed the fuck out of me haha. I have friends at UVM and they really don't seem to care that it's in Burlington, I'm down there ever other weekend and unless you really like Church Street or restaurants then its not a key factor in making your decision. So far this school is sweet, and the overall vibe is pretty nice. (Plus Public Safely here is suppper laid back) Either school will be still be sick none the less

peyton is in the st mikes video that they show you when you tour the school, me and my friend were freaking out when we saw all the ns stickers in his dorm

UVM isn't close to 15,000 even with graduate students. Very far from overwhelming, after 4 years you recognize alot of the student population. I wouldn't have survived at a smaller school.

From VT. I have friends at each (more at UVM). The ones at UVM have more fun, but most of my friends at uvm like to have more fun fun. Also, at least locally, UVM has a slightly better academic reputation (there are good programs at St. Mikes, and some people go for sports). If I went to either (I go out of state), I would pick UVM because I like how much closer it is to burlington. UVM is very spread out though, it can be a haul to get around.

The academic thing for UVM is mostly for engineering (my major is mech e and international studies), or for their medical school, otherwise I think they are roughly similar. Also, meant to write a little more, but if you are going to play a sport, that could be a big factor. UVM has really good ski service, they have shuttles going to most of the major resorts. Not sure how St. Mikes compares there.

UVM also has really good environmental programs (The Rubenstien School) that I don't think St Mikes has.

Like peter said, the Ski and Snowboard club here is really active. It sends busses to Sugarbush/Mad River, Stowe, Bolton and Smuggs almost every weekend. A lot of NSers at UVM are on the Freestyle Ski Team, which is a lot of fun.

That applies almost everywhere. Especially the social part. If you're a social creature you'll be alright just about anywhere.

UVM might have 15,000 people, but it feels much smaller than that

i rarely go a day without seeing at least a couple people i know around campus, it feels close knit

Not even a question. UVM has shown me the best time of my life. the FST is pretty cool, and again you can't beat Burlington. Winooski is a shithole
