for those that have skied squaw....what kind of runs are to be expected on opening day (nov 17th)?

will night skiing be open?

whats your cheapest bet for lodging (and food)?

good bars? one of my friends spoke of a bar with a 'mediocre beer of the week' for $1, but she cant recall the name. pz

What is open will depend on the snow. Usually groomers early on. What steep terrain is open can be fun though, lots of little jumps which will be covered later. Tahoe City has good bars and is close, but the cheapest lodging you will find will be in Reno, which is an hour down the hill.

don't expect too much on opening day.  its usually a mix of dirt and groomers on the easy trails.  and night skiing never opens before christmas.

I went in Febraury, I think it was one time. Best ski mountain I have ever been to. Dope park and there was still fresh like a week and a half after it actually snowed. And-it's HUGE.

I should edit my post. Reno is really only 40 minutes from Squaw, and the lodging is very cheap there. If you want to hit the Tahoe City bars though, stay in TC. It probably won't be too bad in mid November, though it won't be cheap.

i think truckee isn;'t too bad at this time of year.. you can get pretty cheap motel there.  anyways.  squaw is sick mid year.. as for this time.. dono.

thanks....prolly wont use my new skis then if they runs will be that patchy with dirt.

any specific bars in particular that are cool?

totally depends ont he season man.....ask around in 3 weeks before you come and you'll get a much better idea of conditions.

Yeah, it all depends on the season.  All it takes is one or two good storms, and you can go from dry to skiing almost everything.  One year, November 28 was an epic day--20" new on top of a 5-12 foot base already.  But what Squaw opens first has no snowmaking, so you've just got to count on mother nature and hope for the best.
