Squaw Valley name change

agree wholeheartedly. It will probably end up being Olympic Valley if they can swing it, but GNAR Valley, or something with Shane or Mconkey in it would be necessary.

Refuse to call it anything but on all fronts , GNAR valley would be dope , I get the history and reason for Olympic valley, but I don’t like it, I think it will change the vibe by drawing a largely dissimilar crowd to what’s currently there...

When it goes from squaw to “Olympic” your gonna get so many fuckin gapers, dentists and families that b like ooooh Olympic valley that sounds so much better than squaw, why a great place for a family.

call it gnar valley at least it’ll keep a few families wa, dad the dentist be like nah, gnar, gnarly... sounds like drugs and hippies and whatchamacallits, there will be tomfoolery and horseplay I need to take my family where my wife won’t accidentally see a weiner...

Because sqauw valley and tahoe and general aren't full of gapers/tourists/rich people from california already?

Im not sure how you could possibly think they don't do this already? Unless you ski at some tiny ski area, every resort advertises to rich gapers that you don't want coming to your ski resort.
 
kinda strange how they announced a name change, but don't have a name ready, and all of their promotional stuff still is using squaw valley, are they hoping for input?

I feel like you're not understand what im saying. Changing the name to "olympic" isn't going to do anything, at all. Squaw is already a tourist destination, it has been since they had the olympics. I understand what you are saying, but that would mean squaw isn't a tourist destination, which is simply not true at all.

But why would they do that? To please you or people like you? No way man, you dont rent equipment, you don't eat in the lodge you don't pay for prefered parking, you dont take a lesson, resorts are catered to the rich tourists, not us man.
 
I eat everywhere like all the time, I pay for parking if paid parking is the spot that looks appealing or I don’t see free I’m not spending all day looking for free parking, I’m not 12.

i have 3 kids and a wife, this is the wife’s first year as an equipment owner, the kids still rent, they’ll buy 30+ tickets and rentals this year and eat and take lessons , buy clothes and every other damned thing, snowmobile rides n shit Christ my money gets pissed away like grannies vitamins.

no I don’t think they should change for me, that said I guess there’s no point in advocating for anything unless it will bend to my will.

and I also have a habit of forgetting the world is a money sucking vampire, I look at it like shit if I owned squaw I’d make it and name it for the people I want there, not for the $, but I’m not a money grubbing pos or a business that has greedy ceos absorbing everything

Maybe now that all of us skiers from the 2000s are growing up, they should switch it up then, but they will continue to cater to tourism/families/$$$

Can confirm. I fled. Place is fucked. Nice lake, cool mtns, but place is crowded as fuck and everyone there brings there shitty bay area vibes with them.

Probably was a great place to live 20-30 years ago

No matter how many gapers and tourists I spray and harass, two more will always come back to take their place in the landings of jumps and inruns to sidehits. It sucks that SLC is that path too now.

Change the name and the snow.

Are people hurting that Canyons in Park city was absorbed by Park city mountain and no longer exists in name?

Was there the last day open 2 years ago for a jam and there was grass and puddles below the half way point on the mountain.

Upper mountain had decent snow but wet and heavy.

A lot of this is due to location and weather, but if they added some more snowmaking gear they’d have a better longer lasting base.

When I was at squaw this year, they seemed to have a bunch of snowmaking already, I can imagine they have a hard time running their snowguns very often, probably nov-dec only.
 
The snow wasn’t terrible near the top for early March in Northern California. Very wet, slushy and heavy snow typical of the area. I just think more snowmaking especially towards the bottom would help a lot as there were many areas with no snow.

I'm sure they would if it made sense fiscally, but they probably would get one month a snowmaking down there and in the future they would get even less, its very warm at the base of Squaw compared to the area where you actually ski.
