Squaw and Alpine

Which of you guys have college passes at either Alpine or Squaw?

I'm planning on getting a pass, but I'm not sure which one to get...

Squaw-$369

Alpine-$299

Same blackout dates except for 1 day difference during xmas...

I'm leaning against squaw because my family usually goes there, but I've never been to Alpine in my life. ever. lol

O, squaw also has blackout dates on every sat during jan and feb...which sounds the days i would most likely be able to head up there.

ALpine! I think the college pass is good all the time. Plus we didn't sell 20000 early season passes. I can only imagine what squaw is gonna look like on a Saturday pow day. Fights are already breaking out.

^^I hear you work at alpine right?

Can you find out if they have any sort of college discount lift ticket? Squaw has a college discount lift ticket for $49. Since I've never skied alpine meadows ever. I would like to try it out first before buying any season pass for it...

Hows the terain compare with squaw and the parks?

a college day ticket would be awesome since im coming home for break and would love to tear up my old stomping grounds. i hope that you guys get more snow before christmas so the whole mountain can open. i want some legendary tahoe new years powder! come on 10 ft! haha

PM nohajs about the Alpine parks, he's the park manager. He'll tell you all about some stoooopid stuff going on this year... and while there's no college ticket I'm aware of, you'll be fine just buying a pass. Alpine's not as big as Squaw, and it doesn't have as much gnarly terrain, but its got some really good stuff in bounds. Idiot's delight, keyhole, beaver, estelle, scott's chute, etc.

Alpine's boundry policy owns squaw's, basically you can go wherever the fuck you want so long as you don't have to go through closed terrain to get there. This said, be smart about it- the ski patrol doesn't really do any work out of bounds, save over the access road. BUT the sidecountry of Alpine is amazing- you can do a huge amount of great backcountry ripping, using lifts to get most of the way there- check Munchkins, Grouse Rock, Finger Lakes, and what's known to locals as the Condo Run.

The inbounds terrain works in a good way, too- the lifts don't get you everywhere. You have to hike a little (15-20 min. tops) to get to the best stuff, which means fewer people do it. Which means better snow, for longer after a storm.

Plus there are fewer people in general (while everyone's going to squaw next door, only those who already know about alpine/are too cheap for squaw are there. Which is really significant).

Trust me, you'll like it.

Perfect description of Alpine. You could have charged for some of that information you gave out,...very generous of you.

What can I say... I'm a giver.

(I'm also an ass and will never tell people about my secret stashes... unless you happen to be skiing with me, fast enough to follow me, and smart enough NEVER to take my line. That's a way to ensure you'll never see another pow turn again, if I have the opportunity to take it from you)

Thanks everyone. I'll def give Alpine a shot and see what I think. I do agree that squaw is packed a lot of the times I go, whether it be the park, or just some of the runs. But I do like that squaw is big

I laughed at so many people Sunday when they told me they were going to squaw for Monday morning! I said screw that, I'm going to ski pow and went else where.

I went to squaw monday cuz my girl doesnt have an alpine pass... Once KT opened the rest of the mtn was empty... found some pretty nice low angle pow to practice the switch turns

But still, Alpine still had some good stashes yesterday!

I got pow at squaw everyday since the upper mountain opened, don't know what your all bitching about. Keep it up though, yeah squaw sucks! go somewhere else.

yeah... hes right... even in the rain today there was somehow still good snow... some of the tight trees around reddog and squaw creek were fun today... lots of lil stump hits

I'm just saying, I skied POWDER, untouched top to bottom, for 5 hours Monday. You did not do that at squaw...

yea I talked to my dad who is up there and he said it rained.

Might be up there tomorrow, if not in the near future. Bright blue jacket, silver helmet. If its not great I might be messing around in the park, to practice my skills. (well learn some skills, I have not skied much park in the past)

Ill be at squaw tomorrow afternoon, night operations aka "everything groomed and all to yourself " starts on Saturday night. Ill be there through sunday or monday , orange jacket, black pants, shredding like you wouldn't believe.say hi, like to see some of you guys. Definatly wont be in the park though.

want trees.. ride powder till at least 1:30 2:00, access terrain by foot, not be surrounded by tons of fools wearing dukes that never use em, and would rather wait in a max 10 minute line

Yeah, alpine sucks. you guys should probably just ride squaw. thats where all the good terrain is anyways. and you don't have to hike but 5 minutes to the highest place. what a sweet deal!

why do you guys hate on squaw or alpine. They are both sick as fuck and probably the best places in tahoe. And to the people who say squaw is so crouded blah blah blah. I ride weekdays and the only day i have waited in a liftline was the day KT opened up. This is the first year i got my pass to squaw and im diggen it.

Well, there's why. Most college students can't do that, nor can anyone with high school or a regular mon-fri job. you're lucky bro
