Squaw + Alpine = Done... really?

not going to lie, i'm stillllll skeptical. where the fuck is the actual press release. everything is from unofficialnetworks; i'm not saying it's unreliable, just really weird that they are literally the only ones who seem to have any information (every article about this just credits unofficial with the info). pleaseohpleaseohplease let this be happening.

We are thrilled to share with you the most exciting announcement of the 2011-2012 ski and snowboard season: Alpine Meadows Ski Resort and Squaw Valley USA will join forces! The mountains announced today that they will combine operations to a single ownership - which means that you will be able to ski and ride both mountains with one season pass or lift ticket.

Season pass info

/images/alpine/Tahoe-Super-Pass-Logo.jpgWith access to more than 6,000 acres, eight mountain peaks, 44 lifts, and more than 270 trails on some of the country’s most renowned terrain, you will be our celebrated guests at the largest amount of terrain accessible on one ticket in the United States.

As passionate, tenured guests at Alpine Meadows, your interests and mountain experiences are and will always be our top priorities. Although the accessible terrain and fantastic amenities will increase as a result of the new partnership, the individual character of each mountain will remain the same. It is the unmistakable ambiance, atmosphere, and guests’ unwavering connection to a mountain that help make every ski resort special and unique – and truly something to be cherished. Moving forward in this fantastic new partnership, both mountains are committed to preserving each mountain’s individual atmosphere while offering you the absolute best of the country’s mountains, amenities, guest service, and value. We hope you are as excited as we are about the new consolidation between Alpine Meadows and Squaw Valley.

Alpine Meadows’ sister resort, Homewood Mountain Resort, will continue to be owned and operated by JMA, and will not be affected by the new partnership between Alpine and Squaw. Guests of Homewood, as well as Homewood’s West Shore Café & Inn, can look forward to another fantastic winter skiing, snowboarding, and lakefront dining and lodging.

As Alpine and Squaw work diligently toward finalizing the consolidation in late October or early November, we understand that you may have some questions. We will share any new information with you as it becomes available, and in the interim, please take a moment to review the attached news release, which will answer some of your questions. As well, please feel free to send us an email at info@skialpine.com or call us directly at 530.583.4232. We’ll do our best to offer any help with your questions and thoughts.

This is SOOOO sick.

Now it's Kirkwood, sqauw, alpine meadows, and homewood all on one season pass!

For those whoe don't know, you can ski from alpine to sqauw and vice versa if you have skins. I do it about once or twice a year. This is epic!

Yes upon closing approval, there will be a joint employee pass.

At this time, any passes sold today or after (which were advertised throughout spring and summer as being valid at Alpine Meadows, Homewood, Kirkwood, Red Lodge, and Durango) will not be valid at Squaw Valley.

Passes sold on or prior to September 26, 2011 that included the right to ski Homewood, Kirkwood, Red Lodge and Durango will continue to be honored at those mountains, and will also be honored at Squaw Valley.

An all-new dual mountain season pass, the Tahoe Super Pass, will be available starting at $439 for adults. The unrestricted Tahoe Super Pass will be available for $799 for adults.

In addition, the all new Tahoe Super Six will be available for $399 for adults and provides six unrestricted days of skiing and riding for winter 2011-2012.

The Tahoe Super Pass and the Tahoe Super Six are both available for purchase immediately at Squaw.com. If you would still like to purchase season passes that are valid at Alpine, Homewood, Red Lodge, Kirkwood, and Durango, you may do so by visiting SkiAlpine.com.

Ughhh.. was going to pull the trigger on an alpine/kwood pass yesterday and didn't. Kicking self in face repeatedly now.

Hopefully they keep the operations "seperate," so Jonahs can build the Alpine park while SPT builds the Squaw park. Anything is an improvement with Squaw's park from last year, anyways.

Definitely won't be at Bear Mtn. China Peak is just over an hour from my doorstep so there's no use.

This is so fucking sick. Like another guy said, Tahoe just went up to a whole new level. I won't be making it up to Tahoe at all this season but that is dope for all of you Nor-Cal guys.

@Rachy: I doubt it will have much of an effect on Mammoth since so much of the visitors are from LA and they have flights, which makes it quick and easy to get out there for many. It also seems like Mammoth has a lot of money around since they just dumped a bunch of money into the bike park and are replacing chair 5 with a HSQ. I hope that means they have some more money waiting to go into Unbound.

pretty crazy i was skeptical at first. the merger still needs to get approved but i dont see why it wont at this point

A friend of mine went into the CEO or something of Alpine Meadows and their was a 3-d model of a tram connecting Sqauw, Alpine, And homewood. Like they are very serious about this.

The company that bought all 3 resorts is the same company that owns ghirardelli chocolates, so like they are a huge company

This is great but I'll be waiting for when the connecting gondola is finally finished. The land in between is privately owned, but it being sold seems almost inevitable considering this news.

I'm very stoked on this. I'll be more stoked if it means they switch to ghirardelli hot chocolate.
I was sad to think I may be leaving Mammoth... but considering I'd be moving within a 10mile radius of squaw and that all this is happening... I'm not as sad.

this is probably the coolest shit possible

I'm really hoping for a connect. yeah, estelle and bernies and the far out stuff at alpine might get a little tracked, but there will be so much more terrain. think of the possibilities if they connect the two. this could truly be the best mega-resort in the US. puts Vail and other giants to shame. hell, even whistler would have nothing on this

JMA Ventures previously owned Alpine and Homewood plus they own Gharadelli and lots of other shit around SF.

However, Squaw/KSL Capital Partners now controls Alpine, though JMA is still part owner.

While JMA still controls a significant share in Alpine, the company's new role will be more of a counseling one as it relinquishes direct management and continues its push for a major redevelopment of Homewood Mountain Resort, Chapman said.

I don't think anyone doubts Squaw and Alpine will be connected eventually, why else would they own both resorts... but I highly doubt Homewood will be involved in that. There's a ton of other land between alpine and homewood, I just don't see how that will ever happen.

Alpine and sqauw are very close. And their is acutally an uncompleted lift at sqauw that can be seen off the top of K-22 They are thinking about using that, or just trashing that and building a gondola. Homewood is pretty far, but as the crow flys it's not as bad.

The gondola would have to go all the way out Hi-T past Twin Peaks and follow the ridgeline behind Blackwood or somehow span it. That is a hefty distance to run a gondola, especially over what I believe is mostly National Forest land, though I could be wrong. Even though Alpine is already leased from the USFS I really don't see it happening. It's been a rumor for years that Homewood and Alpine would be connected, it's just not practical at all, I mean, it's still 5-10 miles as the crow flies and they have no rights to the majority of that land as far as I know.

Who knows though, JMA has crazy plans to develop the shit out of Homewood so maybe years down the line they do it... Lift access in Blackwood? I mean, Blackwood has nothing in it to ski at all...it wouldn't be a good idea.

The Alpine/Squaw interconnect would be really cool, but they have to do it right. They shouldn't mess around with Estelle or Beaver. That area needs to be left untouched by lifts. Hiking access is what makes Alpine, Alpine. Maybe they could run a short lift from the bottom of White Wolf lift to the bottom of Alpine near Kangaroo.

That is true, but still it's not impossible. that's a company with a lot of money.

And Tahoe has a bid for i think the 2022 winter olympics so like they might connect all those by tram, just for the olympics.

Sierra Cement. Yeah we know our snow sucks eventually haha. But who gives a shit?

And UNR is lookin real nice.

if you can ski the heavy end of warm pow day chop with confidence in the sierras, you can ski any 3 dimensional medium of snow

Reason why I'm selling my hellbents for EHP's. The snow is heavier but it sticks to things, specifically anything that is steep....
