Spring Break in Washington

Not to mention most of the NS population buys gear online, I would much prefer some 40-50 year old gaper rich guy who is going to come in to the shop every year so I can sell him $5000 worth of gear for him and his family.
 
Everybody tooting their own horn. If guy needs easy deep powder, someone by now should be directing him to somewhere cold, like Alberta, utah, Idaho or Colorado. Baker as a resort is over rated because of the record snow fall. I've met people that came from around the world and from the East coast to go there on their one and only vacation. Hopefully they were going for the BC because thats really the only GREAT aspect up there, in bounds is Ok but the Pow can still ususally be quite heavy in comparison with the colder regions. If you aren't used to skiing pow dont come to the PNW to try, you'll be stuck like fly to paper. As for the attitudes of PNW NSers, I totally agree with Guddgulf and hopefully we can ride this year, I was commenting on the fact that people arent accepting and was told this isnt pleasant ville like REAL ski towns. Too many worried about being so Chill that aren't that at all but Rightious Egomaniacs , feel they own all. You know there is a price to pay for those attitudes and opinions , eventually we all get cliffed out at some point. In some cases " Hate what you are " is true.
 
I have many of the same ideas you do. The difference between you and me is that I don't jump to conclusions about people. I'm not trying to call you out or anything, but there's really no need for you negative attitude in a lot of your posts. I read what you write, you always know what you're talking about, whether it be with gear or resorts or skiing style. The thing that bothers me is that you always present it in a condescending manner. I also know what I'm talking about when I post. However, people shouldn't be out to prove who knows more about what. That's a big problem about people on NS. We should post on things we have real knowledge about and that's it. Your concept of the average kid on Newschoolers is completely accurate. I however, am not one of those stereotypical kids. I ski on the east coast, true, but I'm not a park rat. I enjoy skiing, not hiking a rail. I work at a shop. I get my information from people and reps in the industry, not from what my friends tell me. I agree people should support their local shop and buy gear from there, I get all of mine on through my shop. Sorry for the disorganized post. I guess my point is, don't automatically assume everyone on here is the same. Meet me in person, talk to me, ski with me, you'll see what I mean. Just because a large part of the population is from one demographic, that doesn't make it right to lump every new person you talk to on here as part of that group.
 
Sorry for the double post, but with I forgot to mention the stuff I quoted. Over confidence and overestimating skills is also another common attribute of a lot of people on this site, but not everyone is like that. I've been out west once in my life. I skied The Canyons for four days two springs ago. I never said I was experienced. The biggest stuff I've ever skied was 9990' at The Canyons, and a few runs that we hiked off of there out of the resort, all of which filtered back into the resort. I know my skills. I also know the skiing in the east and in the west are completely different. Being a good skier in the east does not make you a good skier in the west. There's a huge difference between skiing on groomed snow in the east and skiing deep snow in the west. I'm not saying I'm an expert skier. I work at a shop, I help those "type III" extreme expert level skiers that walk in you know they only ski 2 times a year. Most people aren't expert skiers. Pros are experts. So to go along with what I said earlier, don't jump to conclusions about people overrating their skills either. A lot of people do, but that's not everyone.
 
It is better to assume some one is ignorant and keep them safe then to assume they know what they are doing and watch them die.

Just because some people on NS, know how too keep themselves safe, does not mean everyone does, I will treat everyone as incompetent until they show otherwise, especially in life and death matters.
 
Ya, I agree with you, as I usually tend to....however, you don't have to be condescending when you tell people things. There's a difference between getting your (correct) point across, and coming off with an arrogant "I know everything, you know nothing" attitude.

No hate, I mean when I met you you seemed like a nice guy, and I'm sure you are nice and have good intentions, you just come off as slightly arrogant (on ns) sometimes. Maybe because you don't like parkrats or ec kids, or whatever, but we're all skiers, park or BC, or racing, it's all skiing, there is no heirarchy here.

There are even times when I think that if Seth Morrison made an alias here you'd try to stand and correct him.
 
I respect that answer. I have a different perspective growing up skiing in Pennsylvania than you do living out west. I understand what you're saying and you have an excellent point. Thanks for taking the time to read my posts, I appreciate it. Respect.
 
Tell you what, I'll cut you a little deal.

So December 9th, I fly to NC to meet my brother, then him and I are driving his car across country to park his car at my house while he's in Iraq. My mom wants me to visit my grandma in Pitt.

Will 7 springs be open then? Gimme some ski info about your area, and I'll tell you whatever you wanna know about mine.
 
The best answer I can give you right now is a maybe. Hopefully Springs is open by then, but I really can't tell you. They'll be opening on manmade snow like they do every year. I've talked to the guys in charge of snowmaking and they said the goal of the mountain it to be open by the weekend after Thanksgiving. So they'll blow as much snow as they can to make that happen, we just have to get some cold weather to make it possible. If they are open though, I'll be up there skiing for sure. What day(s) would you be in the area?
 
I will correct any one, I really don't give a rats ass who they are, I told a rep the quality of his product kept getting worse while the prices stayed the same or went up. I have told owners of ski companys that I thought the way they were representing them selves was horrible. Both to his face and over the internet. the rep one was in person as well. I really don't give fuck. If I have a problem with some one or something I am going to say it. call me arrogant or whatever you want. I know I am not the most loved person on this site. Yes I can be brutal. but as my signture says, or used to say before it got all fucked up, don't take it too personaly.

Well I'll be leaving Jacksonville NC on the 10th, 10 hour drive to Pitt, so probably skiing on the 11th and/or 12th. No idea what days of the week those are though.

But thank you haha. It will be my first experience skiing in the East.
 
Haha, don't expect much. If Seven Springs is open, I'll be there on Thursday the 11th. I have class on Fridays so I can't ski then, but I'll be there on Thursday. If you are planning on skiing at Seven Springs, let me know. There's really no need for me to show you around, considering the hill is pretty small, but I'm down to ski with someone new.
 
Word it's always good fun. I'm considering sneaking my park skis onto the plane, since I hate renting.

yea, that one does not really count. but I knew full well who the volkl/tchnica rep was as well as the marker rep when I had words with them.

good for you, if I make a binding designed for wide skis I make a break for those wide skis, and ship it before january. Thats right 130mm breaks will not be available until January.
 
I don't need breaks hoe.

I'm trying bring pink shoelaces to the 100 breaks and then then stuffing the laces up my pants so they will unravel if I lose a ski, better than nothing. I could bend them too, whatever.
 
130 brakes individually? or bindings with 130 brakes?

why doesnt sturteys buy out all of al's 130mm brakes. and then sell them for more? supply and demand.
 
You know what, you're right. I'm canceling my trip and actually quitting skiing altogether. Thanks for the advice buddy.
