Spraypainting skis?

so i have a pair of 2013 thalls and theyre near the end of their life and im just messing with them, im wondering how spraypaint on the top sheets would go? any of you guys tried this?

I haven't done this but I've heard that if you are going to spray paint them and you actually want it to stay, scrape off the top sheet, spray them, then put a clear coat over them. But if you just want to mess around with them you can just paint them but they will chip after a while and you will have to redo it.

Or you can use a low grit (super scratchy) sandpaper to rough up the topsheet

i chipped the plastic topsheet off. painted them. and then put a ton of clear coat. they look sick at first... but then even with the clear coat it chips off and then it leaves me with little orange sploches where the black has chipped off. i would say do it, but it wont last long. note- the skis on the left were old scott p4s and were orange

I used a chisel and hammer to get that stupid half delammed top sheet off. In the end it was worth getting it off

Did it to old lines after I rockered them and remounted closer back to be NJ white cement skis for the rare occasion we get snow, and I haven't done much other than flex them and it's already chipping really badly. Maybe if you took a belt sander with some 60 grit and went to town and got some nice paint, but doubt if you're looking to spray paint them in the first place you wanna be more simple.

use dishsoap if you want to make patterns, then just wipe it of when the paint has dried and then clearcoat.

I've ended up painting damn near every ski I have, it works alright. For a real quick job rough em up with 60-80 grit on a sander. One pass with that, a coat of paint, and bam you got yourself some custom painted sticks.

I spray painted a pair of afterbangs and they turned out great! just make sure you sand before hand and dont use shitty paint like krylon or reustoleum, that you get at lowes.... try get some actual good spraypaint like ironlack, any montana brand or molotow.
