Spotting 360s

Hi NS.

I got my 360s down solid, by spotting over my leading shoulder as I start rotating.

But I have noticed a lot of stylish skiers who spot the landing somehow like a Pirouette. (Looking over their following shoulder until around 180, then turning head to leading shoulder and spotting the landing.)

Example: 2:27

At takeoff to keep spotting the landing, I would have to spot a little down which I have always experienced causing me to land backseat.

How would I be able to do 360s like this (preferably with tail grab) and still stomp the landing?

Thanks!

well i think at 2:27 he's just looking at his grab. but anyway, delaying your look around can work well but for me when i do it it's always important for me to make sure to flex my abs and not look straight down to avoid going backseat

for the people who you are describing, it appears that they arent really spotting because they arent. 360's are a simple enough trick that it becomes muscle memory after time

once you do a bunch and get comfortable with the spin, you don't need to spot. You get to the point where you can feel where you are in the spin and in the air.

yeah, 3s more than anything you can just finish out of muscle memory and not even think about spotting really (beyond thinking about not hurrying the spin by spotting early, makes it look bad)

Nah dude everyone's 12 and has their mom buy loads of Jiberish and Armada gear that the older kids get jealous of.

He's doing that because he's looking at his grab. It's stylish, but don't focus on trying it till you get 3s down first.

carve into your spin a little, pop at the lip straight up with your shoulders square. Don't look down at your skis, look over your shoulder. you'll be able to spot your landing at around 180. Once you do a bunch of those you'll be able to get a feel for popping and spinning upright and you can start grabbing.

This

try to set the spin with your shoulders more than arms. You can get plenty enough momentum for a 3 without flinging your arms around. Like TWoods says - don't look down, this will put you off axis

I am grabbing 360s. I just don't spot them as ex. Jon Brogan in "Jiberish Winter 2010 - Do Werk".

I do bigger spins than 360 over jumps that size, and I can't grab 3s (learning this season).. If I want to do it over a 60 footer, the grab is irrelevant.

To the OP, what I do is come into the jump with a slight carve and pop. I keep my head always leading my spin and as soon as I see my landing I lock in on it.

bump.

I really need help on doing slighty corked 3's / spotting down. Like first shot here (Steve).
