Sports bikes

Before I go ahead of myself and say that I want to buy a sportsbike I want to say this... I do realize the insurance would be insane and I probably wouldnt be able to drive it around til I was older. But anyways I was wondering if any NS'ers have sports bikes and what their take on them is? What are they like in terms of being on the road? What precautions do you take so as not to put yourself in a bad spot? Other than the danger factors, what is it like? Is it hard to get accustomed to the steering/general characteristics of the bike? What are some good brands or bikes and which tend to be more quality than others? Which brands are known for durabilty? Well, I think you gusy get the point, I just want a little info on riding sports bikes around. Thanks..
 
I want a GSX-R so damn bad. Like you have no idea, but I will not allow myself to have one, because I will kill myself on it. I've ridden dirtbikes for like 3 years now, and i think I am TOO comfortable. Plus I have 4 speeding/traffic tickets. And I'm only 18. Been pulled over a total of 12 times. So I know one day I would get excited and do something stupid and have to lay it down. Which is no good when you are flying down the street on a crotch rocket.
 
Ive ridden sportbikes for years now, street riding is something I will never give up. There are only two type of riders; those who have been down and those who are going down. Just because your $8k sportbike can out-perform $80,000+ worth of sports car does not mean you have too! Know your limits and ride within them. Take the MFS course. Buy gear!!! Dont be that squid with flip-flops, shorts and white wife beater. End of PSA...

Im not gonna lie, riding is awesome. IMO sportbikes are the zenith of the motorcycle; its purest form. I would recommend starting out with a smaller bike like a Katana, YZF-600R, F4i or Ninja 500R, but I know guys who started on liter bikes and who are still around. If you have any interest in riding at all, then go for it. You will not regret it. I would sell my car if I could figure out a way to get my skis to the slopes on my bike during the winter.

a friend of mine has one, and it rides so smooth, best bike i've ever riden.

and yeah i know he was talking about motorcycles. He dosen't need one if he thinks hes going to kill himself, DH is way more fun
 
Yeah, for the price of a bike you could get a super nice SC V10 and enough armor to make you nearly invincible. Or you could buy a Hayabusa and go do wheelies at 150mph.
 
I can't get the video right now ( work has youtube.com blocked ) but go to youtube search for Ghost Rider and look for a video with hayabusa in the title. If you haven't found it by the time I get home, i'll link to it.
 
Start out with something smaller like a R6 by yamaha or a cbr600 or gsxr600. Just play it smart when riding dont hang out in blind spots of other cars. If you plan on using it for more of comuting just drive it like you would a car and obey the laws. Now if you plan on spliting wigs check out some of the videos on Sbfreaks.com
 
sorry but "sportbike" is pretty much the universal name for them, or crotch rockets for the uninitiated.
