Sports and college resume

I'm a junior in high school and currently run cross country and either indoor or outdoor track. this year, I took two AP classes, both of which I had the test last week.

Tomorrow I can't attend the meet, because I have tickets to the Yankees game. I told my coach, and he flipped out because I've been missing so much practice (which have 100% gone to actual studying from 3-10 at night). Right now I have a 3.9 gpa and around upper 1800s for my SATs.

Would it be better just to drop outdoor track (I'll always do XC because everyone I know does it) and concentrate on the last 1.5 months of school? Or just go to every single last meet and practice (if he remembers, he told me I had to our I'm done)?

Do colleges look a lot at extra curricular activities? Either I drop outdoor and go do some community service (twice a week, hospital stuff probably), or stick with this shit and work my ass off to finish the year. Overall, I'll have one sport a year, and possibly another with minimal community service if I keep running.

note: I suck at track.

you should kill the coach and then you can stay on the team, or just do what i do

i had something funny to say but i forgot it.

dont go to college save yourself

Of course nowadays, 15 year old pros are a bountiful norm and regularly appearing at major competitions. You can¢??t swing your pole in the park anymore without smacking some 12 year old prodigy who¢??s probably going to be better than you¢??ll ever be. - trevorwoulddoit

im a junior same position u are. I only do 1 sport a year for school (volleyball). i think that extracurricular activities are important but i dont think they'll wager urs over another because of Track. id say go with the community service if u feel u must. what schools are u looking at? Ivy league or no? it all depends on where you're applying

Eric: At least I was begging my girlfriend, you were begging a 40 dollar hooker who declined your mother's credit card.-Entourage

lets just put it this way: they look at grades before sports. I'd try to stay in track, and do the work too, but if you can't, quit track. Next year I would look at joining a club, because colleges look at involvement more than sports, so try to join a couple clubs, maybe the key club if you have one, and do some community service

Track, cross country. Both for fags. If you are applying to liberal arts schools you will be set. Do whatever you want. The admissions directors can smell the queer on your application.

Stick with it. Why the fuck are you skipping a sport you like to go to a Yankees game? The season is so long. Go in the summer.

Doing a sport just shows you live a balanced lifestyle and can juggle sports and academics. Colleges pick based on grades but also want people involved, because their main goal is to pick people who are going to be successful, at their college and in life. So dropping track is no big deal. Doing outside clubs, like government club, just shows you have motivation and is a plus for collge too.

you play volleyball? no wonder you have a barney icon. i play three sports: hockey, lacrosse, soccer. i hablo-ed with my counselor the other day... she said its not the quantity of extra cirricular activities, its the amount of time you spend on them. colleges would rather see someone dedicated to a few interests and actively pursue them as opposed to 20 activites for one year apiece. if you have been doing outdoor track for awhile, dont even think about quitting it would suck talking to an admissions director and explaining why you quit track midseason

ok let me explain something:

1) I absolutely hate track and cross country. I just do them to have 2 sports a year.

2) New SATs are out of 2400 you stupid fucker.

3) No Ivy leagues, but right now the only thing I'm looking at is UVM, which I'll definately get into because I know people or something (my dad and his buddy, who is my god-father, got pure connections).

Well, if you hate it then quit. You didn't come right out and say that. if that is the case, then the choice is simple. No college isn't going to accept you because you quit cross country half way through your senior year, hahahhaa.

colleges want people who do more than just go to class and shit

i know kids that get 4.0 that didnt get into the college they wanted to, they had to go someplace worse and then transfer after a year...mainly because they didnt do anyting after the bell rang

if youre gonna play a sport and can get a 3.9 youll probably get into most of the schools you want to

fuck track. if you dont like it, dont do it. there's lots of people in college that didnt do sports. most of them actually. if you're doing community service, then you def dont need track. the only time shit like that even comes into play is if you're on the borderline of getting in, and by the sounds of it you will have the grades to fly through admissions.

I don't know if UVM is where I want to go. It's really nice, but that's the only school I've looked at.

And I do those sports because my friends do them and usually it's pretty fun, but they get kicked off by the time the season is almost over anyways.

(zach)

finish the yr and dont do it next yr.. im guessin ur prolly into ur track post season... so just finish it off.. it'll be much better than quitting.. i cant believe ur allowed to miss track to study.. i NEVER got to miss practice for AP testing studying or anything... it'll look good to have extra curr. when applying for college anyways just finish ur season... quitters suck

I think I'll finish the season.

For our school, academics take priority over sports, although my coach probably doesn't care (not a teacher or anything). And because I don't score points at meets, the coach doesn't give a shit. He quit encouraging me a long time ago, so I quit showing him what I can do.
