so i got a job 2 weeks ago at sport check. well the interveiw was 2 weeks ago i got the job a week ago, then today i was in for doing some training and i got around $200 worth of stuff for like $96 it was awsome.. i got some north face pants, and some phat farm shoes for work. so comfertable clothes. any one here ver worked, or work at sport check?

guess what. i know you're lying. why? because i work at sportchek, and you can only get deals after you've worked for there for at least 3 months. it's like a probationary period you have to get thru and only then they hook you up with proforms, and the %25 staff discount. nice one, bucket head.

buckethead! SNAP!

sportscheck is where you go for sports you're only kinda into. I went and checked out thier skis....mmmeeehhhhh....and thier soccer stuff..mmmmeeehhhh but since I dont play tennis, their tennis stuff looks good to me. Anyways sweet that you got a deal.

p.s, the job sucks unless you work hard and make commission. i usually make $10-12 an hour (canadian) so it works out nicely. it's pretty chill.. all you do is hang out with people and talk sports with customers and help them out with _____ (depending on the department you're in. i'm hardgoods myself, so i sell mainly boards, skis, and hockey gear). plus, my manager and all the other dudes in my department are fuckin awesome, so it's all good. the only thing that blows is that you're usually competing for sales with the other guys, and it can be a drag knowing you have to deal with customers and meet a sales quota every fucking day you're in.

plus, it's also helpful when the location i'm at is ranked 1st in hockey and top 10 in ski sales in canada

The forzani group sucks shit. calling it "the wal-mart" of the sporting goods industry is a compliment to how that company actually is run. and I hate wal-mart. One example: their ski and snowboard buyers bareley ride, if at all. they are so out of touch with the industry, they havent a fuckin clue what is going on. all buying decisions are based on numbers, mark up and profit, NOT product.

BOYCOTT FORZANI! it will only help the ski industry.

great reply kid.

I have seen how that comany operates from the inside out. It is not opinion, it is fact. Trust me.

yeah i work there too, and my experience is pretty much exactly what anathema described. You can make good money because of commission, especially during ski season, and all the people i work with are great, the managers are great, so i really don't mind it.

Having worked for Sportchek, and having dealt with that shit, and having a little bit of background in how ski shops and the industry work, I can wholeheartedly back up the statement that Forzani group, including Sport Chek, sucks. Badly.

From the way they treat their staff, to the shitty discount, to the horrible product, to how Forzani artificially keeps prices low on everything, to the SMUs they request from vendors, making life for REAL ski shop employees much more difficult than it needs to be ("no, sorry, you're wrong, that's not a B2 for 399 at sport chek, it's a shitty ski with a nearly identical topsheet" for example), Forzani is everything that is wrong with ski retailing.

Oh, and if I have to deal with one more god damn customer who comes into my shop with a boot they bought at Sport Chek that's 2 sizes too big, I'm locating the nearest Sport Chek and blowing it up. Sizing ski boots isn't difficult, so why does Sport Chek and its employees consistently fuck it up?
