Sponsorship Advice

Riverboarder

Riverboarding was recently featured on the front page of the Wall Street Journal. When we show up in any city and ride, we draw huge crowds. We have no problems getting the television and print media to do stories on the sport when we go to any city. With all this exposure, I would think that there would be another company that would want to partner with us. We have tried for years and years to get a sponsorship. We get nowhere. Last year Mountain Dew had an ad campaign called "It's Different on the Mountain". Guess what Mountain Dew, surfing is different on the Mountain. We would have loved to send them some standing wave surfing and bungee riverboarding footage. But no one would talk to us. For summer 2013 we hope to have a tour through 7 states and hit 15 rivers. We will set up television and newspaper/magazine interviews along the way. We really need a sponsor for this tour. Doesn't this sport get enough exposure to warrant a sponsorship?

Articles/stories on riverboarding have also appeared in the NY Times, Denver Post, Sacramento Bee, ESPN, Idaho Statesman and many more.

you need to do crazier shit. shove its and 3's aren't that impressive. plus at the end of a 30 sec run it's just a guy swimming with his board.

as far as I've seen anyway

I thought you were reffering to when people make waves in rivers and actually surf them^ that looked pretty lame.

it's way too limited to ever get a major sponsorship.

it either needs to be a race, or have freedom to expand beyond imagination.

This is neither. It's just...shooting up a river with a bungee.

Don't get me wrong, it looks like a lot of fun, but it's limited.

FujaRome - If I showed you video of Snowboarding from 1978 you would say the same thing - It is limited and lame. Boards back then didn't even have bindings. All board sports evolve and we are at the very beginning of this sport. Boards will get better, bungees will get better, riders will get better. We haven't even launched off a ramp or had the chance to grind rails yet. So much possibility for this sport.

this is never going to be a big sport im sorry. sure it looks kind of fun.... but there isnt going to be a mass amount of people going out and trying this. I personally think it looks fun but dumb at the same time.

the difference is on a snowboard or skis, you can build any sort of jumps, put in any features, or just scope out nearly endless natural terrain.

Take a person uninterested in skiing, and show them a movie. What fascinates them is the fact that these people are skiing ridiculously steep mountains through waist deep snow, jumping off cliffs, and are in fall and die conditions. or they're hitting massive jumps in a park and doing seemingly impossible spins/twists/whatever, and yet still landing them flawlessly.

once again, in the end, you are just bungeeing up a river. Wakeboarding has jumps and rails, but really outside the sport, no one has any interest in it because it's limited.

riverboarding seems like wakeboarding or wakesurfing for someone who cant afford a boat. Its probably pretty fun but id rather spend my time doing something else

Riverboarding is a lot like Wake Skating, we can do all the same tricks. And you are exactly right, Riverboarding is like wakeskating/wakeboarding for the person who can't afford a $40,000 boat or $3 a gallon gas.

We are building jumps and rails for summer 2013. Once again, our video production has been so limited, that is why I joined this forum. Most video we have is crap, shot with crap equipment, edited with windows movie maker. And if this sport is as big as "limited" wakeboarding is, then I will be happy.

i don't mind the video quality, just your sport doesn't appeal.

it'll be just like wakeboarding, only instead of being able to get dragged around by a boat for as long as you'd like, you're limited to a 10 second slingshot.

A 720? We travel upstream at 30+ mph, if you slap the water just right going upstream this fast it starts you spinning. I have done 4 360's.

It seems like too much work for a 10 second ride, your very limited (I can't think of anywhere near me to do it) and there are other more progressed sports that are extremely similar. Ex.

You have to think of companies as someone who has no interest in what you do, only what you can do for them. They may care about the sport but if their not profiting from you then their time, money and effort is being wasted. It's all about the bottom line, at least for their investors it is. I just don't think your sport has the interest, not yet anyways. Who knows this could be the next upcoming sport, personally I doubt it, but hey I have been wrong before (Just look what scootering has become haha).

still a lame ass sport. you live in boise? that's one of the best kayaking spots in the nation. why are you wasting your time on flat water?
