sponsors

Yo whats up, first off id like to say if your willing to answer my question great, and if your not then dont flame. Anyway im a dece skier and like all working my hardest towards getting a sponsorship. Anyway im just tryin to get and idea on how all you guys got your sponsorships, if your sponsored that is. Mainly im talking about 'I was skiing in the park and some guy approached me', 'someone noticed me at a comp', or 'someone saw my stuff online and said they were interested'. Anyway thanks

just generally obvious advice... get to know a rep and rep their gear... be someone who would benefit the company... but go after the sponsorship, unless you win something damn big you probably cant do much just skiing around waiting.

Can someone please write a 3 page answer to this that can be posted in bold letters on the Home page permanenlty so that we don't have to keep helping the newbies, they could just read the article...?

By the way, one day I was bouncing on my trampoline and my phone rang, I missed it obiously cuz I was stoked on the fact that I had just learned a new trick. Leater on I read my caller ID and it was a weird French number. So when they called back I answered, it was Rossignol. That's my story. Moral? Don't go looking for them, keep practicing and it'll happen when you least expect it.

Form what i understand it incldudes alot of dick sucking.

Just get connected, that's how I get hooked up. Like everything it's all about who you know, work at shops, go to camps, meet the reps, and be a good skier. It'll come to you, if not then sell yourself hard, get some footage of you skiing and mail it in to team managers...keep working eventually you'll kick a door down.

Hey Fro-deo why dont u go suck a dick, ive been skiing a fucking while and can do a lot of shit, first off im not a new i dont sit at home on my fucking computer posting a lot and then by the amount of posts i have think im better than people. Well buddy your not so shut the fuck up and any decent skier who doesnt wanna flame can answer the question seriously or suck Fro-deo's dick

Windells session 1

Hey Romo,

Fro-deo did answer your question. He wasn't insulting you by saying there should be an article about sponsorship. Fro-deo is one of the sickest skiers on this site and he knows his shit. If you're going to ski for a living you're going to have to adjust your attitude and not be so on the defensive.

get a resume together, make sure you are a decent skier first. video is always good. approach a shop first for a shop sponsorship or something. get some results and better footy and recognition. shop dude will introduce you to the rep for whatever company, keep getting better and work your way up. or just win the X-games, that would work too.

Life sucks, get a fucking helmet

Now that i re-read it he did call em a newbie but whatever he may be awesome but i asked not to be flamed, just because i asked this question doesnt mean im a newbie, i just dont kno much about sponsorships i ski for myself until ive started to get more serious

For sure, just work hard Romo, and get out west to hit these sick ass parks and lines, dude, itll happen in no time....

CO is where its at bitches

Dude, just go to events (not even competitions, just rail and pipe jams) put on by your favorite companies. If you kill it while riding on their stuff, then they might talk to you about riding for them. Best of luck man.

The way I did it was simple. My boss' husband hooked me up with Sportinge Life and Salomon. then at then end of that season I was head of freestyle at my club and I spoke to volkl and I got three pairs of skiis from them (724 AX3, v-explosive, and v-expression) I did have to pay 450 for the expressions with bindings though. thats how I got hooked up

Boy oh Boy,

First of all, thank you Nate.

Romeo, the reason I called you a newbie is because you only have 30 posts in this forum. I don't know you personally, and I don't know you're skiing background. And the people that know me, understand that what I was trying to say is:

Lots of people come on here 'sponsor' crazed and ready to be the next Tanner. If you think that you have what it takes, then that's great, I'm sure people will be behind you 100 percent.

I come from a family of skiers that are involved in the industry and I live in a tight nit communtiy (Whistler). I just wanted to let you know that before you step into a world of professionalism that you may or may not have think hard about what you want your impact on the ski scene to be. What you did was perfectly justifiable and I would have done the same (if I hadn't a few years ago when I joined this site). But you should really take Nates advice and learn to absorb the good and bad things people have to say about you and your skiing and turn it into a postive motivation.

We're all here just to ski and have fun doing it. As I've said before, as soon as you lose the fun, you lose the sport. So, take what everyone has to offer. Write a resume (get it checked by a professional), make a movie, write a coverletter and act mature. Doing this may be difficult, but it all pays off. This is the best job in the world, but it's not for everyone... just remember that.

I truly hope that all works out for you man, and feel free to email or message me further. That goes for anyone. I'm here to help out the best I can. I'm not saying I know everything, just that I have a perspective that many of you may find interesting.

Thanks alot. Rip it up tis season guys. See you on the slopes.

GO TO THE X QUALIFIER AT BRECK every sponser and company is there i know it seems that they would not have time for an amateur but ski the park in between the the pros runs or make a video and show it to a big shop like Boulder ski deals if you live in co just progress and huck save kennys sweet virgin ass!! .5 baked

theres some total dicks on here, the dude just wants to know how to get sponsored how to get deeper into the sport-

what you should do is just put together a film, some pics, edit the film real nice and type up a letter, sayin what you have done how youve done in comps, and what your future plans are, and yah you probably wont get the top sponsor spot right off the bat, and you will be turned down by companys thats just the way it goes, but just put together a little 'look at me' package and send it out to companys- of course you could try attending every comp in the country, adn traveling everywhere, but that does cost quite a bit-

good luck man

skiings about going out and charging every day, no matter how good you are-

j miller

yeah you will erally have an advantage over people if you get to know some of the people in the industry.

or maybe they cant afford new gear b/c they only make 200 a week adn pay 400 a month for rent then car insurance.. and need 'sponsorship' to keep up with their breaking of equipment

NDSC

and one other thing maybe mommy and daddy wont pay for his shit b/c he doesnt come froma rich family like most of you stuck up fucks that are mean

NDSC

the fact that he had to ask means he dont know shit, probably spends the day wedging past the park, then falls off a mogul and says he just did a switch rodeo 9000. keep reaching for that rainbow.

Just smoke a lot of pole....Do you really think Finn gets free stuff because he's good at skiing? He's actually a man whore. You should give that a try, it prolly pays much better than being a pro skier.

or do instaed of smoking pole write up a contract, get the rep stoned and get him to sign it!

Go get some top 5 results at big regional comps, get some good VIDEO shot of you(no stills, no slides, VIDEO. Shows how good you really are. Stills can make anyone look good.)put together a resume and then pay me $400 per page to make you a media kit(going rate for professionally made media kits=$500-600 a page). Then send it out to about 50 different companies(making sure that they're only companies you believe in. You can't rep a product that you think sucks) and if you're lucky, you'll get 5 offers(about 10% offer rate. Not bad...). Out of those 5 offers, 2 of them will work out. Congratulations, you're sponsored!

Or just win X slopestyle qualifiers unsponsored, win Winter X unsponsored, and people will flock to you like you're a prostitute...

Jib_This has it right ths time. woo-hoo. but the regional comps have to have people who are not just from ur hill. it cant be like just a bunch of local kids. u need pros from other mountains and shit. cant just be locals cause then u get nothing. maybe a free hat

being sponsored is just like having a job. your possible sponsors don't want someone who says they are hot and stinky, they want someone who proves that's what they are. Look at Rob Holmes, he goes frickin' huge with lawndarts, he's a loose cannon, nobody does what he does and that's why he is sponsored. Tanner used to be on the US Ski Team for moguls, he proved himself as a skier and took the newschool world by storm and won a lot of comps. Jamie Pierre hucks 150ft. cliffs to get sponsored. Some people send in videos (Rex Thomas), some people win comps (Tanner), and some people are just plain crazy (pierre and holmes). any path you take though, HAVE FUN, and if you happen to be the best on your hill, move to another mountain and be the best there, keep doing that until you get noticed. but most importantly have fun!

413 Clothing is off the hook, if you want a pic of the clothing....e-mail me (address in my profile)

Location is also important. If you immurse yourself in an elite area, you will meet the right people without having to look. Have patience and put in your time. Just have fun, pay your dues and one day your sponsorship dreams will come true. But seriously, don't bank on sponsors too much. If you're spending more time trying to get sponsored than it would take you to just work a job for the money to buy your gear, it's not worth it. Like Frodeo said, it's all about having fun and pursuing the passion of the sport. It's funny, but once you are sponsored you'll see it totally different.

But seriously, Just asking the question of how to get sponsored, meens that you are skiing for the wrong reason. Pull your head out of your Arse, and realise if you need to know how to get sponsored, then you arnt good egnough for a sponsorship. If you are good egnough and desevere a sponsorship, sponsors will come looking for you

i personally think it's cool doing well in comps, beating these terrible 'sponsored' kids and saying your not sponsored, think about it, hope somehitng will come along for me, but i'm cool with being an amatuer, who can show up loads of people. that's just me and my big ego

mt baker skier had it write, u shouldnt really worry to much about sponsorship and just ski, theres nothin wrong with gettin one but if you spend all your time tryin to get sponsored or famous then u loose the fun, im sure most pros out there just did there own thing went to some comps and eventually it worked out for em, if u got the tallant the same will happen to u, if u dont no big deal
