It goes without saying that you will get sponsorship offers if you break onto the podium at a major slopestyle or pipe event, but what about if you are a strong skier without much for results or exposure?
Q: Why would any company sponsor you?
A: They are convinced that you will result in sales of the product.
You need to be able to convince the potential sponsor that one way or another, you will result in sales. How do you do that?
- Exposure
-podium events
-print exposure: ads, articles, photo submissions
-video exposure: segments, online clips, ads
-industry exposure: on-snow demos, guiding, coaching, etc. where you are visible in the product
-Relationships: you know a store's buyer and can get the product in the new store... or you are extremely social and spread good word everywhere you go.
Present your ability to benefit the brand through your exposure or relationships through an organized resume with CD that contains images, video, exposure, references, goals, etc. These things should help back up your claim of what you can do for the company.
After you submit these things, follow up with phone calls until you reach the person you need to talk to and discuss what you submitted. Persistance may be necessary as these companies may be very busy.
If you get hooked up:
-Keep in touch with the sponsor often
-Submit photos and videos as soon as you get them
so they can use them to sell product and get
you more exposure.
-Update the sponsor with results or sales progress
-Only say positive things about the product
If you can do these things, there is a big opportunity out there. Don't bother trying until you have enough skills and documentation of those skills.
