blahblahehelablablah

I was just about to say the same thing. I would suggest you don't write the company cause they'll probably laugh at you

Sponsorship has got to be the most misspelled word in the history of this site. And 'how to get spancered' has got to be the most posted topic in the history of this site.

If you have not read 37 threads on how to get sponsored on this site than your not ready yet.

this post seems different from the standard 'how do i get sponsored' posts. he askes about the ups and downs of sponsorship. give the kid a break...

we've all wanted to be sponsored at atleast one point in our lives

Alright I won't hold your spelling against you. Don't even worry about getting sponsored if your not ready. Just work on your game and it'll happen

Alot of people will rip you for talking about getting sponsored. Everyone wants to be sponsored if they arent yet. I dont know much about it but placing high in some contests will help.

i'd say that alot of the time it really can just depend on being at the right place at the right time, and by knowing all the right people. (and how you ski too of course...) im sure that if you work hard enough at it, you'll get there!

gosh u need to stop the hat skimonkey_05. I guess the pressure of just being sponsored would kinda suck, u know always having to do comps and do well in them.

Okay. Well, I'm sponsored, and young. So here it goes:

First off, being sponosred doens't mean u just get free stuff whenever you want. It means you are representing the product of a company that has given it to you for free, so that you can advertise adn make it look good.

You not only have to be a good skier, you have to be a good person. You have to represent yourself well, represent the company well and represent you talent well.

Being sponsored isn't always as cheery and it sounds, or looks. You have to remember, it's like having a job (that's hard , ot impossible to quit, ie-contract). You have to keep in touch wth people, reps etc. This can get expensive and time taking, especially if they are in a different time zone or are long distance. You have to do well in comps, have good movie segments and always be positive on the hill (so others want ot buy the product).

So basically, being sponsored is a very great thing (but it is also hard work and can be stressful). When you think that it may be time to get sponsored, take all these things into consideration. You should have fun being sponsored, but remember, it's still a job and you have to be respectful and happy etc. It's kinda like the song Rap Superstar by Cypress Hill. What they say about being a star, is alot like being a skier, or a star in any other occupatin that is admired by the general public.

So basically be aware, and damn it, have fun!!

Whoops, wrong thread. I can't seem to find the one I posted in yesterday. Maybe those damn moderators took it off. They dont seem to like my kind very much.

I want to get sponsored i am making a movie, about 2 minutes long with decent clips, i decided to only add tricks that arte smopoth and i stick will it work if i send it to the companies?

so i said to her 'look baby,i'm not saying your not beutifal, i'm just not sure my man in there wants to pay for it'

I think its funny when ppl come in here and assume that they will probably get sponsored, and are actually asking what its like to see if its worth it or not. Lol, if you are good enough it will come to you, especially if you do good in comps and act nice. Theres a lot of good skiers out there, its good to be optimistic and set goals but there is also reality.

'I would be embarrassed to constantly complain about my life considering all the freedom and opportunities we have today. People that can't find anything they enjoy in life simply aren't giving it a real try.' ~Nick 311

Alright, let's get this straight kids. Sponsorship is a tool, not a luxury. Someone who does well at the sport, but trashes his gear a lot and can't afford what he needs to keep moving forward should probably look into sponsorship. After that, if he starts doing really well, he may feel as though he has a future in skiing, so he decides to quit everything else and ski full time. This is a risky move, expecially if you don't have anything else to fall back on (ie. education) so he should look into being paid by his sponsors in order to provide him with some security. At this point, he better show them how he's worth their money, or he'll be dropped.

As far as pros and cons go, I think Austin summed it up quite well. You basically work for the company, so you may be expected to do certain things like photoshoots (which really aren't always that fun), demo days etc. which do take away from skiing time. You also have to be careful with the way you act on the hill. Whenever you ski, you represent your sponsors. On the other hand, you get free shit, which kicks ass! The amount and choice of gear really depends on the company, their inventory, and your relationship with them. You might also have to wait a while to get what you want, but free gear rules no matter what!

Ideally, you would be able to afford all your own gear, and you wouldn't have to be anyone's bitch, but skiing is expensive, and sponsorship does help the athletes, and the industry through the power of hype. The bottom line is; if you're looking for a sponsor so you can say, 'I'm sponsored,' you're doing it for the wrong reason. Of course it feels good to know that people look up to you, but sponsorship isn't the only thing people look up to. I look up to someone who is out there every day ripping rather than spitting game about his sponsors. Peace, N8.

actuly man Smith makes much higher quality shit, Plus nothing looks better than a pair of smith goggles wears some sms shwag on some new line skis with a dakine backpack. hahahahaha. Like they said above you really are an asset to the company. If people know you all over the place, know who you are, where you ride at, what you ride. Then you chances of getting sponsored are greater. Just be a friendly guy who's a good skier.

As for the perks of being sponsored, the free gear rules, get free passes every nowand then, downside is you can never ski pissed off because if someone sees you that way and he tells someone you lipped off to him, and he tells, and he tells.... well your boned. I actuly skied less last year then the year before, partily because I got sponsored, and mostly because I got my lisence taken away. Dam speeding ticket. I'm done now
