Splicing headphone cord...

Ok, So I have tuneups on my helmet, and a generic brand 2 sided headphone jack cord (1 jack on each end). I want to make it shorter... Its about 6 feet and I only need 1.5 or 2 feet. So any tips on shortening it?

you technically should be able to strip the cords and then just soldier the wire back together, adn electrical tape it.

don't take my word for it though, i'm not an electrical engineer or anything

I feel that since he is asking how to do it, it is probably best for him not to try it, you know? but your idea would work

I just roll the excess up and use a rubber band to hold it together... no problems there. You can cut the length out, strip the rubber part back a bit on each end, then splice or twist them together. Put some tape on it or that stuff you put on and melt it to it.

I know for a fact that I will never need 6 feet of headphone cord. And I want to get rid of the other like 4 feet because when I ball it all up its really bulky in my jacket and annoys my chest. Its an ipod shuffle so I just clip it to my helmet strap and I have tuneups so I really only need like a foot.

go ahead and splice it but before you tape it up for good test it -- you will prob. need to get your splices really hot (don't really need to solder though...) but you will notice that when you cut the wire each side doesn't appear to be insulated from the other, there is a really thin coating on each wire that serves that purpose and you need to melt burn it off to get your splices to conduct... in the past I have touched the splice to the coil on an electric stove burner for a few seconds when you see a bit os smoke your good...

^Ok thanks Ill try that. Anyone ever used 2 ends of ipod cords and put them together? I think I might try that before anything...

That would defeat the purpose of tune-ups... Anyway I did it with 2 ipod cords, Its about 7 inches long and its perfect. Thanks for the guy that helped me. And Ill get pics up later for all you guys that thinks its stupid... Just think, Never having to take your gloves off to change the song or pausing it to talk. No bulky stupid huge cords either...

Skiing isnt a fashion show...

Not really... Its an attempt at being "In" with the latest trend and doing what all the pros are doing/wearing... Id rather just not give a fuck and ski...

you may want to put into consideration what's going to happen to your shuffle when it snows/when you crash and hit your head on the snow. doesn't seem like a good idea to have your shuffle out in the open like that

Ive been using a burton jacket that my mom bought me 2 years ago, I got this jacket for $83. You would of bought it also if you saw the deal and needed a new jacket. Thanks to the people that actually helped me instead of just calling me gay or a fag...

I came here to ask a question... Not your opinion on what you think about it.

And the generic cord I have now was from Best Buy and 6 feet was the shortest one that had...
