Spk boots STIFF?

so a pair of SPK boots came to me today and i tried them on. they fit real well, super padded, but i noticed that i basically had no forward movement at all. stiff as fuck. now im not sure if its just because they are brand new or what. arent they suppose to be super soft? if they dont soften, can you adjust shit on the boot to make it more flexy?

im sure with use they will break in a bit...but I could imagine this would be good cause it will cut down on shin bang

they feel a little stiffer than the 1080s/foils but they are exactly the same. there is no adjuster on the back but you can bring the boot to a shop and they can cut a v in the top of the lower cuff to soften it up. if your 160, i wouldnt recommend softening them though

a V cut wont help, the flex isnt maxed out. its the fact that they arent moving at all, and theres just about an inch between the cuff and base of the boot,, so the cut wont do anything. maybe i just need to break them in.

Our SPK boots are an 85 flex so they are a perfect flex if you are a 160 lb dude. If you have any questions about Salomon in general please feel free to message me.

Cheers,

I still disagree, when the boot is overstiff your shin is basically bending when impact occurs. Also from a personal experience, the season before I quit racing I was in a World cup Race Stock Boot by Lange and they were wicked stiff, also they definately fit right because I spent hours upon hours with a boot technician having footbeds done and having the boots canted and customly fit to my foot.

ah yep, I am jumping on this wagon too. We took the rear spoiler out. likely will replace the factory strap with a booster strap , will know lots more tomorrow after rail jam.

feel so weird when you first put them on..I thought they were gonna be really shitty to ski in at first.. after you ski in them a bit they'll break in reallll nice though..

i think alot of it is that the cuff is about 3inches higher than my langes...when i put my langes on then my spk/s theres such a difference. my langes are like rollerblades and the spk feels like a cast

salomon is sending them to me soon, and i weigh only 125, you think theyl be too stiff? I heard they are really good...

soft boots give you worse shin bang. shin bang isnt from landing forward in your boot, its from landing backseat then your shins rebounding forward.

true, but you can also get shinbang from banging your shin directly on the front, in that situation softer boots are better,

could someone review them... since people have skied them already

my langes when i first got them were more flexible than my spk's...my langes are 120s, spks are 85. makes no sense. could be the high cuff not sure but im sure theyll soften up

A race boot flex is 120 and an intermediate boot is ruffly 55-70 so yes the SPK boot is perfect not to stiff but tons of performance to get the job done and it will also make you feel good wearing them to.

well, there is alot to do with the xxxl strap, because its so big it can be a big factor on how it fits. if you losen the strap just a small amount it may fit a little softer. i dont need it but it worked when i did it.

some race boots are a 120 flex, but you cant compare flexes across different manufacturers. for example, salomon goes up to 120 for the highest, whereas head goes to 150. but a flex of 85 for salomon is about the softest they come as far as decent boots. the foils and spk's are 85, and then it steps up in the x wave series, utnil 110 for the x wave 10 which is stiff as hell, and then i believe the race boots are 120 but i could be wrong.
