Spins

Okay I know there is like 10,000 360 threads but this is a bit different. It is my first year park skiing and I'm pretty comfy with front 2s, front swaps to switch, and back 2s to give u and idea of where my skiing is at. But, I just can't seem to spin. When Shifties felt awkward and weird, I took my skis onto the tramp and learned them there. When skiing off jumps, or attempting to get more used to the swing weight of my skis on the tramp, no progress has been made. I'm still stuck with this 360 that I have to crank a shifty around the last 90 no matter how big the jump is, plus my roitation is super slow. It almost feels like my skis are just making it impossible to spin and just so unnatural. When I don't have skis on and I'm on the trampoline, I have no problem with misty 7s, flat 5s, even a few bio 9's. I'm 5'9, 135 pounds so skinny af riding 172 honey badgers which are light af. How the hell can I fix this issue cause I see weak skinny guys able to spin pretty fast. Sorry about the long ass post.

A lot of times it's how you pop. 270s and 360s you can jump the spin a bit rather than hetting into a nice level spin require for 5s and up. I found sometimes I do a beterb job initiating spins on small jumps. Just to get a nice level whip to 3. And then take it to a slightly bigger jump to get the 5s.

Idk. That was the hurdle for me getting from 1 to 3 and 3 to 5.

Find a fairly large sized jump, hit it a few times to get an idea of how much air you get. If you spin left then approach on the right side of the jump, and as you approach the lip try to carve left a little and look over your shoulder. You can wind up your arms and bring them into your chest if you want, but for balance you might want to keep them in a t-pose.

How do those fuckers spin like they have no skis on their feet tho. Is it j like insane strength or shit? LIke are 3s and 5 s always j supposed to feel like shit and your skis ruining your spin?

You shouldn’t need to wind up too hard for a spin lower than 7, but it still sounds like you’re not giving it a proper wind up on the inrun.

This one shows how I kinda get stuck

try throwing your rotation quicker and with more force. also on that little drop you barely had enough air to even get it around if you had another foot you probably would have stuck it

kinda slow throw.. i would embrace the wind up learning, and especially throwing on flat ground

I wish I had a clip of me doing it off some jumps. My common problem is akways getting stuck at 270, and having to shifty ariund the last 90. Wat I’m saying is I get stuck regardless. Thx for the tips so far. It almost seems like my skis are trailing against my rotation.

Know those ballerinas that spin super fast. Just go of a jump pop a lot and throw your arms as hard as you can. Bring everything close to your body so your moments helps you spin faster. And land 1800

I'm no expert but looks like your right arm is blocking your rotation (I tend to have this problem too sometimes). Your right arm gets left behind, so you're having to try hard to pull it round to finish off the rotation, as your legs have carried on spinning.

I know this thread is a little old but had I guess I had a related question on spinning - I've seen people doing 360's standing still with skis on, should this be fairly easy to do, as I can't get much past 180! I can do 360's off jumps but not on the flat. Is this just a case of spin technique?

Had the same problem forever, went out west once and hitting bigger jumps solved my spins fr. I could barely 3 before and i was doing 9s at the end of seaz. So yeah hit bigger jumps and pop hard dont set your spin off the lip

Ok that is a really difficult spot to do a 360. Barely any air, off camber down sloping take off, flat landing.

As everyone has been saying, try them off a bigger jump with a steep take off that will naturally give you pop.

If you can do blind 2s, that's a good reference point to use for spotting the landing. You have to commit to being blind for a second and just keep your head turned.

With a strong pop it will be easy to pull your knees up in the air which will make the rotation come around more naturally and should fix the issue of your skis feeling heavy. Keep your feet wide and stay low as you're getting ready to pop.

Come up with some visual cues for each part of the rotation- i.e. as you pop, you see the base area, then trees, then takeoff, then lift, then base area again. (This is first person visualization) It can help to imagine the sound cues as well, like your skis leaving the snow and returning to snow.

Try to visualize what your trick will look like from other perspectives too. Before you spin off the jump, do some spread eagles/twisters/daffys and grabs. Do a 180 and switch 180 before a 360 too and the 3 will feel more natural after those.

Push your hands out in front of your knees as you're coming around to land. This will ensure you land in a centered stance and will make it a little easier to adjust the angle of your skis in the last little bit of air time.

You arent following thru with ur upper body keep ur shoulders turned in the direction of spin
