Spin to Win thread

So funny and so conincidental that I have been chatting it up on the slopes about the spin to win thing and now there are all those threads in SG. I personally feel those that complain the most about spinning to win can't actually do them or they flat out don't want to.

The fact of the matter is that if you are competing to win you have to be able to throw the revolutions, the more the better. Sure a penciled 10 will not beat a switch cork 7, but it might.

When is a list going to be generated that judges can follow? Personally this is always going to be a debate and I think it will kill the competions as they are now as the lines get blurred into acrobatic aerials..

Debate away, I want to hear everyones opinion, no matter how harsh!

yeah spin to win is deffinately gay but i saw nothing but perfection in tj's sw 1440 i'm gunna say if you can spin like a top but make it look smooth i say goo for it but a penciled out spin isn't worth of podium

yeah dan so why don't we have qualified skier judges in our area. Besides, where is the list about which grab is more difficult than the next or is the judging all supposed to be interpretive about what the judge thinks is the most stylish.

Personally, if it is about style and I was a judge, I would award extra points to those skiers who DON'T show thier underwear. HA!

burton makes pants with snap-in faux-underwear so you can sag your pants without actually getting wet when you fall....

style is completely up to interpretation. some people have a very smooth style, like jon olsson, which i think has actually kept him from winning on several occasions because it looks like he's not even trying. candide as a comparison has a kind of tweaked style, where he's still really smooth, but he tends to really tweak his grabs at a specific point in his rotation which kind of emphasizes the trick more, which i guess makes it look more difficult in a judges eye?

i had a fairly good system when i judged it worked. and of course there was a manditory 3 point deduction for a tindy or a tailfish. i have judged skiers to by default and i have to think that i was pretty fair. now i maily judged pipe to be fair, my only gripe about spin to win is that i am sorry a spin bairly above the lip does not score higher to me thenm a monsterous 15' strait air. there is some point rotations are nessesary but atleast in pipe dont mean everything. as fair as park were amplitude doesnt really matter yeah the more rotations probably better. but at the same time i am more likely to score a truck driver 5 higher then a no grab cork seven.

who knows i just think there has to be some sense with the judges, and i dont think standardizing is neccessary. have we turned into figure skating folks?

Personally, I think the ones who rip on spin to win so much are the pussies who can't spin past a 5. They're afraid to sack up and huck...just my opinion.
