Spin to win has moved from jumps to rails

You can't logon to ns these days without someone telling you that boner style 1260s aren't where its at, and I totally agree. However, it seems like the same people who hate lame looking hucks off jumps love it when lame looking hucks are done onto, during or off of rails. Every rail jam I've been to all year has been determined by how many degrees were spun on and off the rail, and while I think 360 switch ups are indeed sick, there needs to be more room for innovation. Spinning to win is lame, whether in a big air or a rail jam.
 
IDK i dont entirely agree.....i think if your spinning onto a rail for some reason it just looks sick i mean sure its gonna look sicker if you have more style into it but i think a 270 on beats a real steezy slide neday
 
Word, everyone is spinning to win. Well obviously for a comp. That's how they work. Style and difficulty SHOULD win, like opposite rotations and such.
 
well until judging gets better and they relize the technical shit like sliding the opposite way or doing unnatty stuff it will stay like it is now...but personally i dont have a problem with it, i also think one footed stuff will eventually become popular because their isnt much room for progression..at least on park rails
 
i toltaly agree smooth and well executed tricks are way sicker than any penciled or flailed big spin wheather its off a jump or onto or off of a rail
 
i agree...even though my standard rail jam trick is like a 270 on sw up 270 out i would much rather see and do some sick presses and butters...its just alot of times judges dont want to see that..so the more you spin the more you win...ermm yea
 
it reminds me of the big air at US open. Favre's zero spin was ridiculous, if he would have landed it and i was a judge, he would be hands down the winner after that jump.
 
spining is def super key. but mixing it up. def not always the 2 on sw up 2 out or sw 2 on blindside 2 out get some sw 4 on reverse sw up reverse 2 out or like nosepress sw up tail press
 
2 switchups is pushing it. and 270 out is so easy when you spin on or switch up, peep rainville in PYB, down rail at mammoth 270 lipslide....to switch. fresh. i hope switchups fade or are tamed down, cuz hoping around is played.
 
totally agree. on the downkink at last years winter X tanners 450 to 270 out was cool but he barely touched the rail i was alot more impressed with Jon spinning clean into a perfect locked on slide
 
kids who rule the local mtn have both.. the steeze and the spinning capabilites. you cant just butter onto a little rail and say your the shit, you gotta back that up w/ a 360sw/ up in the middle.
 
if someone throws down a sick rail slide, and then the next person 450 but barely taps the rail thats kinda unbalanced, but i mean if spin tricks are done WELL then they are sick, if someone then 450 to a rail and actually rides some of the rail and can do it well then i can see. same as for big air, if ur flailing a cab 10 and someone throws a sicker 720, but if someone throws a cab 10 sicker than that 720. see how it works?
 
Then what do you suppose the solution is? I mean skiers can only slide a rail effectively a few different ways. When skiers try to do some new creative rail tricks, the steez patrol automatically comes in and condemns it. A perfect example is the one-footed slide. People want new stuff on rails but anything new lacks "style".

What do you want out of pros? I mean here are they're options, regular slide, tailslide, noseslide, 50-50 (extremely rare and difficult, one-footed.

Regular sliding had progressed so much that you need tech to make it difficult. Most pros slide equally well natty and unnatty. So now you have to spin on and off and do switch ups.

Tail and nose slides are very risky in comps, because they're pretty new. And a lot of people don't like the way people lean to keep balance.

So now pros are forced to lay down bigger spins on and off.

what is considered creative anymore? These guys go out and do their best, and we tear them down. And how the hell would you like to be a judge critiquing that shit. "well i think his ski was a little more on edge than that last guy" maybe we should rewind the tape a few more times and go over it." or "he was on the rail .001 seconds longer than the other guy."

Comps are for going big and getting crazy. Movies are more dedicated to style (yes there is crazy tech in movies too). Thats just how I see it. Maybe everyone disagrees.
 
we can only go so far on rails....watch a snoboard so from noseslide to switchup tailslide on a flat rail...you will never see a skier do that

and the worst is in WSKI when tanner is spinnin onto that fruity coloured kink rail...like 630 or 810 or something but he slides for like a fraction of a second...like candide (still sick though)
 
ive said it for years...skiings gay

nobody gets into skiing to be cool...we all just did it growing up and its easier to stick with what you know than switch to snowboarding and start fresh. skiings lame, get over it.
 
i agree, i love skiing, but (especially cuz of wakeboarding for me) i alot of the times see snowboarders and wish i snowboarded. I like being unique, and not having to strap my foot in at th etop of the lift, and i like skiing, but i just think id enjoy snowboarding alot more
 
I have a sneaking suspicion this has to do with the Killington Turkey Rail Jam, and more specifically, Ahmet? 360 Switchup, 270, yes it's a lot of spins on a flat-down, but it looked so god damn good and in control of course he's gonna place with stuff like that.

Now I'm all for the slow spins and not trying to sound like a hypocrit by saying it's okay here, but it's just to techinical and still he had control of it.

But I agree with you partially, maybe we should see some more nose and tail presses with less spins but more style pick up.
 
unnaty def should be rewarded. if you think that a regular cork 7 should be worth the exact same amount of points as a unnaty cork 7 with the same amount of style then you are just stupid. unnaty is so much harder to make steezy.
 
I'm seeing a lot of "dancing" on rails these days... like 270 on to double changeup to 450 off... super tech yes, but is just too jumpy for me.

I like it when people spin a nice clean 270 on, stick it, slide the rail in a really comfortable position and then spin off. Sometimes those changeups seem like it's more of a case of not being able to stop the rotation on the rail rather than doing cool tricks.
 
yeah...i definatelyl think that it should be more on style and difficulty...sure some body could spin a 450 disaster on a flat down flaily but it would be harder to spin a fs 270 super smooth disaster to opposite bs 270 out.. i just think the winning trick for a comp like a rail jam should be the smoothest most tech trick...not the most tech flaily trick
 
ive noticed how mike wislon who is probably the kink of spinny flippy doodlers doesnt win comps. i dont know about you but his double cork 7's are fuckin il and need reckognition. he should be winning. and by the way, sw-ups are sick!
 
Freestyle skiing is about style and when you boner 270 on to boner 450 off it looks lame but some people think its tight

dont get me wrong a 450 off is sweet but it needs some style
 
I usually mix it up during jams,

yes i will do at leastone spin to a switch up to a spin out because judge definatly like to seethat happening.

I like jam format were you cant do the same trick twice without being penalised.

I dont want people hitting the rail 10 times during a rail jam and always the 2 in switch up 2 out theyve been working on all week and stomping them every run.

the winner should always be the one who showed more versatiliy. Doing a 2 in swit cup 2out on a box aint hard at all, judges should realise that and give lower score to the same trick that have been winning rail comps for at least one year. And to riders, once you got a trick dialed, you shoulld start trying something else i dunno, doing it the other way around
 
how much innovation can there be? almost every possibility on and off rails has been done before its not like skateboarding. eventually the only new ideas will be the rails themselves and most rail ideas have allready been built. lets not try to progress so fast that skiing burns out before anyone even notices it
 
although things like this ^ are cool, rails are not a dance floor. there is no reason for kids to be doing 270 on, with 8 switch ups, then 450 off a rail, it just looks silly.
 
i think that steeze looks alot better than spinning, but i think that spinning is hard, so the harder trick should win
 
what would you choose if you had say a 270 on, 450 out..... somewhat ugly, or super smooth switch on, unnatty slide with a 270 out.
