Spin to Perfection-Technique

Hey all NS'ers, some people see to have the natural ability to spin fast, they just do, i can spin be not really fast. My question is, is there a technique or form that people are using to help speed up their spin. Wheather it is put your hand on your knees or against your chest what works best for your and do you have any tips to spin faster. Thanks all!

wind up before you pop and throw your arms and upper body in the direction you want to spin....

thats all i can really say...it just takes practice and personal experiance to tell for sure how to ultimately dial in your spin...

Just do loads of spins, get so you can pop a 360 off the biggest and smallest jump you've ever hit. Get really comfortable doing 5's and you'll just naturally get better at spinning. I find the biggest help is getting your legs fairly wide, and not winding up too much with your arms. When you do a big wind up it just gets you off axis.

^good advice I destroyed myself off a cattrack 360 while just learning them, I ended up going completely sideways haha and having no chance of landing it.

I have problems with the pop and then spin, should you pop and spin at the same time, or pop and then spin a moment later?

Ideally you should pop, and then wait as long as possible to spin. The main reason a lot of people die on 3's is spinning on the jump to edge catches.

yeah well for 3s it's a bit easier since you don't have to throw hard at all, but for the bigger spins and such I don't want to just wildly throw them. Thanks for the tip.

its ideal to be straight and looking forward (not at the ground because it sets of your rotation). sometimes your in the zone and sometimes your not.

yeah learning to accellerate and decelerate your spin in the middle of the air is so important you should have to pay me for this information

I've had a few good trampoline sessions where I could get in the air spinning, lock my body up and not loss any inertia to body parts drifting out or falling behind the spin. I was able to add about 270 degrees to my spins both ways.

That only applies for seriously hucking yourself around though.

the biggest thing is practice. Once you get past the barrier of trying to stop your spin after a certain amount (whatever that may be it may be you can't go past 3, or 9 or anything) it's just like you're adding 180's. You should feel like you could keep spinning in control forever if there was no landing under you. Then you just have to know when the landing is coming and set yourself up for it

I guess that wasn't exactly advice, more just telling you what it should feel like. Oh well these guys gave good hints.

Oh ya and when I'm spinning too fast to do grabs my arms are in at my chest or stomach

Any advice on what to do with ur arms when spinning, i know that if you bring them closer to your body after ur start spinning ur radius becomes smaller and u spin accelerates faster, so should i like almost hug myself when i spin?

If all you're worrying about is getting spinning fast that jump then yes. But obviously in most situations you'll want to grab or something to make it look better.

But ya if you wanna spin faster then bring your arms in

hit the jump your gonna do a big spin off a couple of times first to get a feel for it and try doin 3's and 5's off headwalls and just from jumping and you will eventually be able to spin really fast and land it.

Try not to wind up too early, I see a lot of people do that and it really throws them off. All you need is a little bit of wind right before you go into the air. Popping of the lip and bringing your knees up slightly when you spin is key for maximum control. Try to look ahead of you while you spin, so you can spot your landing. Also, I've found that is easier to do tails and blunts when I look under my arms in the air.

I know this really depends on the person. But if i did a 360 on my third try on a 2 1/2 foot jump with getting like 5 foot distance, but all the other times i am just getting 270's should i be able to do it in the park with ease?

what do you mean "whipping it" ?

oh and im going to try it in the park when my local hill opens( soon) i just built a little jump on a hill by my house

ok dude, u kno how u like pop lil 3's n shit of like trail jibs and moguls and such? well jus pop and spin that fast off the lip off a jump. but u gotta progress, dont go up to the 60 and think u can jus throw a 10. u wont and u will die. and practice and progess. youll catch on.

Spotting your landing is crucial to getting in those extra spins, you can spin as fast as you want but unless your looking to where you want to land...you'll be lost in the air.

note: i only do this off cat tracks and shit. cuz it looks disgusting.

but start with wide feet and thrown your torso and as your legs come closer together your spin will go faster and there for. faster spinning. yeah.. thats my 1.5 cents

I agree. spinning on a tramp helps as well (think big slow spins. its easy to add spins and spin faster once you develop a feel for basic 3's and 5's) . As to spinning fast- if you have ever done a backflip on a trampoline you'll remember that you can control the your rate of spin by stretching out and tucking in. same for spins. Ie true nose is not an easy grab to spin big with. whereas a mute will spin faster. Get it? the "smaller" you make your body the faster you will spin.

you have too throw your head around your left shoulder(if you spin left) and just keep looking around. i find that my lower body just follows my head

i still dont spin fast but what helped alot for me was just to spin off of everything when your just walking down the street

I feel like its alot easier to do spins particularly 3's ofd bigger jumps because you dont need to wind up or anything. But i know for bigger spins you just need to keep your head going around when you in the air and spot your landing.

I like what someone in here said about looking forward, I haven't tried it, but I think that that's a great tip.

Also spotting your landing. I mean, anyone can huck, but can you land it?

Thanks boys!

yep, so true. I was trying my first decent sized jumps (30 ft) with spins yesterday, trying to get 3's. Just to show how I progressed through trial and error, I first started and made sure to pop, but didn't quite set my spin enough and wind up. hHis resulted in landing 180 a lot. Once I realized this, I started setting my spin more, and I had no problem spinning the three, but I cheated by not popping enough. This made it kinda like a butter 3 where I was actually spinning while still on the jump. It worked three times and then the fourth time, I caught an edge, lost a ski, turned sideways, and cased the jump landing on my side, hard. Didn't feel very good. I learned the hard way, so make sure you pop before you set your spin.

dont think about spinning with just your arms, your whole body spins so hucking your arms can do more to throw off your rotation.

some wind up is good, just dont think the bigger the windup the bigger the spin.

when spinning faster stay compact, its easier then you think if you just commmit and dont stop at 360 or 540 or however much you want to spin

spin with your hips, don't wind up with your arms and start spinning after the lip. oh and also commit by looking with your head and only spotting the landing once you are done the spin... or a few degress before that.

if you want to spin fast. set your spin and go pencil steeze, the closer and more compact you are, the faster you will spin. spin to win baby! set it and forget it!

Its also important to keep your eyes up and on a level plane. If you are always looking down you will go off-axis and most likely screw yourself.

Practice loads but make sure you don't start spinning o early. I find it a lot easier if you have your left arm in front of you and then punch forward with our right arm!!!
