Spin Symposium 05 cancelled?

Word from some respected mucky-mucks at Mont Tremblant is that Intrawest is in serious financial trouble because of currency values, weather, past reputation, and the way they treat the skiing consumer.

To add fuel to the fire, all events are to be cancelled, since the Events department head was fired and the staff let go. Major lifts will now only be run on weekends, school breaks, and holidays (under the guise of "cold temperatures"). That, and a earlier closing than what is scheduled will happen.

And I thought they were just scrimping on a pipe...

Anyway, I hope it's not that bad BUT I keep hearing more each day - it's hard to ignore.

Demo days allow all skiers to try different skis to find out which ones reward their brand of poor technique.

it might just be another 'threat', like the rumor that they wouldnt build a pipe.

plus intrawest is far from in debt, but i guess it's them not wanting to spend money on us anymore. im not suprised.

by eliminating all fo the things u just said, that would only lower tremblants potential revenue and growth, i doubt any half witted owner would do something like that, the loss of business would be too much and then tremblant would be in serious trouble

OK. I believe it would be a bigger crime if NOTHING was said because before you know it - it all comes to pass - and everyone's sitting around going WTF!

Since you quot;sit" in HR, how about we quash the rumours one-by-one?

1. Events director was fired.

2. Events staff was released.

3. Weak American dollar has impacted on profit margin.

4. Unseasonable weather has impacted on visitor traffic to Intrawest resorts.

5. Tremblant has a halfpipe.

6. Aubin has a big mouth (in French and English) and should be a little more discrete about discussions about operations.

Dude, I don`t need you to validate my statements but I will tell you this.

Say what you want about the unseasonable weather, but skier visits are always low at this time of the year. we had one of the best christmas seasons in a while. secondly, halfpipe issues are resolved, the superpipe is cut and being groomed to open for the weekend. as for the firing of any event directors, i did not hear about this. but, let`s keep in mind that, although the spin is the only event which might interest you, huge events which take much planning occur weekly on the mountain. event staff is alive and kicking. as well, despite the cold, everyone is having a good time, so, as far as i am concerned, the season is a success. CAN IT.

Honestly, this is all really good to hear. No, the Symposium isn't the only event that interests me - I'm up every weekend possible, taking in whatever the hill has to offer.

Thanks for your response, as vehement as it was... "Can it" - I really liked that part - felt like I was 12 again.

how could they be in debt, that's my question.

isnt intrawest the company that buys out local mountains and turns them into fancy spendy places with ski cowboys and wine bars and the 'apres ski lifestyle?'

^gotta love it. I I have to admit, that without Intrawest, Tremblant wouldnt be what it is today. I'm hoping the pipe will be open this sunday!
