Speeding Tickets?...

Yeah, so a few days ago I got pulled over for speeding in the UP (michigan) on my way home to wisconsin. My question is, Will my insurance find out about the ticket? ... the reason I ask is I don't really want to tell my parents about it seeing as they got pissed at a 20 dollar parking ticket about a week ago. So if my insurance doesn't find out about it, then I'm in the clear...

Thanks for any answers...

hah i just got one on the way home from skiing it sucks but my parents don't really care, i guess they consider legal punishment enough punishment, plus it would be hippocritical

yeah i was going 21 over in a 55... but the cop was sweet and only gave me a ticket for 5 over... so i might just tell my parents... but idk. It's still a $110 ticket!

Your insurance company shouldn't know about it, because they have no reason to know about it.

If you had gotten in an accident, it would be a different story.

why not tell your parents now so they won't be pissed if they do find out later?

its not like its a big deal, just take responsibility for it

just man up and tell your parents.

and 65-70 is basically the speed limit up here. (i go to college in the up)

Ha! I was skiing at mount bohemia over spring break, we had to go buy a tv in houghton because my xbox wouldn't hook up to their shitty one. (We returned on our way home to WI) I got pulled over for 73 in a 55, but he dropped it to 60 in a 55. 95$ ticket for me? my first time ive been pulled over. It's a good thing he didn't catch me going 90 which i was doing earlier. I also almost got pulled on my way home once I was in WI. anyways I don't think your rents will find out, but I'm not positive.

yes your insurance will find out about it. they do periodic checks of your driving record and when a ticket shows up, your insurance rates will go up and your parents will find out

You should always fight a ticket (unless you live really far from where it happened and can't go back for court). You need to call the clerk and get the date changed. Every ticket that cop wrote that day is schedualed to come into court on the same day, so he'll deffinatly show up on the date on the ticket. If it's a legitimate ticket the only chance you have of getting off completly is if the cop doesn't show on the new date. You said he made it for only 5 over, this is reallly gona help if he does show up, you can probably get the judge or distrct attourney to lower the fine or give you a lesser charge, like too fast for conditions or improper equipment. Sooner or later the insurance company will find out about it, some do random checks, some check when you renew.

Insurance will know, but since it's only 5 over, you only got 1 point, right? Insurance usually won't raise rates until four points. I just got a ticket for 19 over ($186, 4 points), but I was able to haggle the the district attorney and got it reduced to 9 over, and 3 points. I wouldn't worry too much if I were you.

i like how everyone thinks they know they answer since its happened to them before. states all have their own laws and such. what happened to me i live in minnesota is i was doing 15 over but since it was my first one they cop marked it down to the 1-9 mph over region (the cheapest) and he told me it wouldnt show up on my record. so the insurance didnt find out so neither did my parents.

this would also be a good time to bring up the phantom check trick. so get your ticket and write them a check for the price but like a penny or two over. when they send you your refund back rip up the check and never cash it. i guess the transaction never happens and you dont get charged. ive never tried this but ive heard it works.

your insurance will find out 100%

your parents will also find out 100%

unless you get it dropped but i don't think you know how to do that

110 for 5 over? Wow, in montana they wouldn't even think about pulling you over unless you're doing at like 10, and here in salt lake city on some roads you can be going like 15 over and cops don't care.

I guess it wouldn't make you feel better to tell you i was going 81 in a 65 in montana and got a 20 dollar ticket...

salt lake cops don't pull people over. thats a decision i have made. We avg 80 on the belt route to little cottonwood and cops will sometimes be the ones passing us.

my uncle got a warning doing 85 in a 25, but thats in vt on some back road where nothing really matters.

2 years ago, i got one for 87 in a 65. that was $200 and 2 points off in my license. thats cool. the dmv sent something home for that one.

and then a year ago i got one for going 95 in a 65, but he dropped it to a 85 in a 65. somehow that was $287. thats pretty cool. but not really at all. now i just try to stay under/hover around 80. its usually a good speed. and recently i've been using cruise control which helps me stay under.

i've gotten something sent home both times, but i'm pretty sure my insurance went up after the second one. you might be fine, but it all depends on your insurance i think.

I've heard that alot of cops will drop you down to 5 for a few reasons. Alot of them want to hit their quotas. Also, they aren't really interested in giving you points, but any form of ticket is going to be alot of money for them.

I got pulled over for going 76 in a 55 the other day, came around a corner and bam cop. He let me off, go figure. I think he felt sorry for me because I was in the UP and had a 8 hour drive home...unfortunately the bridge was closed so I had to go all the way around through wisconsin and it took like 10 hours.

i heard that if you pay 5 more dollars than the ticket is worth, then the town will not be able to balance the check right or some shit (i think there is a thread about this somewhere) and therefore not reported to your insurance company.

and the Wisconsin DMV is going to fuck you over as well, they will send a letter to your house letting you know about the points added onto your liscense from your speeding ticket, if you dont have restrictions it will only be 2 points, if you do then it's 4 points.

but ya tell your parents

i have state farm and have had 3 tickets, 1 too fast for conditions. one speeding 65mph in a 40 and one speeding ticket for 63 in a 25, oh yeah and a defective equipment ticket and they never found out and my rates never went up

OK its out of state so your insurance company will find out but your rates will most likley not go up. If you can pay the ticket right now do it and your parents never have to know about anything.

I got a 52 in a 35 in vermont(im form jersey) i didnt tell my parents and didnt pay it cause i figured i only go to vermont a few times a year ill jsut pay it when i go back. about 6 months go by and im just chillin on my couch and my mom stats freaking out. i had completly forgot to pay it and had an arrest warrent out for me in vermont. not fun when your mom finds your arrest warrent in the mail.

you boys have to learn what speeding is.

nothing over a hundred in this thread? i find that odd.

it's no big deal, i'd tell the parents now.

yahh be a man and take the blame. 5 over isnt tht bad. ist it legal to like even stay in 5 over and just say my speedometer is broke?

i don't think your insurance will find out, as long as its not marked as more than fifteen over. At least thats how i think it is in Pennsylvania. I was going 72 in a 50, and that would have sucked really badly because it would have been a 3 point ticket and a big fine. But I was really nice, ended up taking it to court, and they just gave me a 5 over ticket.

I also live in PA and i was going 78 in a 55 which is almost 25 mph over the speed limit = license taken away from 3 months is what my driving teacher taught me. The ticket was huge and my insurance found out. One more ticket and my license is gone haha, not cool... So Then i picked up a V1 - That things the shit!!!!

ha your insurance company will find out about it...rates go up then your fucked can hide it for awhile if they dont find out about it now they will when you renew your insurance.
i have had my share of tickets when i was younger not so much anymore.

you really should rely on a radar detector, you can still get paced, or hit with laser, or they can just make up some bullshit and give you a careless driving ticket.

radar jammers are also a good thing to invest in..
i had one on my r6 worked good.

thinking on getting one on my srt next...if u do get a ticket the company will pay for your ticket

jammers are illegal in some states,CO for sure, and since you have to mount them to your car I don't think it would be work it.

illegal if you can find them plenty of odd places you can mount them on a car that you can't find them.

haha =]
probably illegal here but oh well..

Well i live in B.C and i know that here, your insurance would be notified just because there would be "points" against your license so unless you surpass the allowed number of points, (usually 6) and you get 3 for a speeding ticket then you insurance shouldn't go up.

3 points for speeding in BC??? dang thats crazy wreckless driving is 3 points here in the states...1 point for speeding.

ya but we also have the N rule which is SO FREAKING STUPID, and if you get a speeding ticket with your N then it restarts.....

what the fuck? i want to live where speeding is one point, in colorado its 4 for any kind of speeding over 9 miles an hour, I should know, I've gotten 3 in the past year, fuck bags should raise taxes instead of punishing people for no wrong doing, speeding isn't unsafe at all, the limits are artificially low so they can hand out tickets and make money

Maybe its Idaho were its just one point...
i didn't think it would be different by different states...

that's crazy 8 points they take your license away here...

12 in colorado, I'm good in court though, I've had 2 speeding tickets reduced to 2 points, and 3 more completely eliminated, just paid court fees. Had my license suspended for 30 days for a 27 over though, that one was shitty. still only 4 points though, don't know how that worked out.

i have the worse luck with the law..if u get a ticket on a crotch rockets its a automatic loss in court haha

Radar Jammers are illegal. You will get fucked in court if you get caught with one. They are also really easy to track if you have one. They are great if there are alot of cars around you, because then they don't know who has it. If you are alone or one of one or two cars when they are radaring, you're kinda fucked. The best way to do it is to have a switch so you can turn it on and off.

Laser jammers however, are completely legal. Since the FDA declares Laser's as being potentially harmful to your eyes you can put a jammer for Lasers in your car. I don't know how effective they are. Laser is really hard to get a reading on a car, but if they do, it only takes them 0.006 seconds to get your car and your speed. They also have to hit a flat spot of your car. This makes detectors for Lasers pointless, jammers are ok though.

Personally, I'm going to buy a Valentine 1 once I get some more cash. They are the best detectors on the market, and will scope out in front and behind of you. I'm going to get the concealed display option. Additionally, when they come out of new technology, you can upgrade your V1 for dirt cheap. Only downfall is the price.

Laser Jammers are illegal in CA, UT, CO, OK, MN, IL, TN, VA, and SC. As far as laser beng hard to hit a car with, that's totally wrong, todays laser guns are so good at trcking cars on the road as they move. all the top radar detectors detect 360 degress, the V1 just tells you where it's comming from. Others just give you a level or alert.

they only send it if your under 18. It's happened to me twice, and I was smart enough to know to tell my parents right when it happened, rather than wait till the letter came and watch them freak. They send the shit out within two days. Wisco cops suck...

You sure on that? I'd like to see a sight. I'm pretty sure any form of lasers can be jammed because of FDA regulations. That is a federal regulation, not state. And it's not a question about how good the lasers are at tracking cars. It's a system known as Lidar, and for the signal to make it back to the gun it has to ricochet off of a fairly flat spot on your car like your license plate, tires, etc.
