Speeding ticket Q&A

I have some questions about one and need some answers, hence the Q&A....

It was 9:50pm last night and i was on my way home from work(lift op at local hill). I was at a light on Rt 8. right before it went from 2 lane's with lights to a 3 lane highway. I starting to go and noticed a car behind me closely. I accelerated and went to change lanes so he could pass and it was a cop. He pulled me over and went through the routine. Blah blah blah, i clocked you going 78 in a 50. Shit. I got the ticket and so on/so forth.

Now my questions are as follows:

1. About how much will this cost?

2. What kind of points will be on my license, etc.?

3. How much will my insurance go up?

A little background info on me:

I'm 18, had my license for 1.5 years, been in one collision in a parking lot(hit a light pole), was not cited, but my insurance went up from $55 to $90 a month.

Pretty much, how much is the long dick of the law going to fuck me?

lose some demerits

traffic court

a fine

and maybe traffic school

if the cop doesnt come to court testify against it and they cant do shit and you can prolly get out of it but thats kinda rare

first off, as much as this sucks, get an attorney. he got you going 20 over the speed limit which is not good and may result in 6+ points on your license, $200 + fine and your insurance going up. so get an attorney (hopefully your 'rents know of a good cheap one) and plead not guilty. most of the time someone owes someone else a favor and you may be able to get it reduced. good luck man.

I doubt i'll be going to court because i kinda wanna try to keep it hush from my parents, which might not happen cause my insurance

your insurance will definitely go up. thats why i suggested you get an attorney. my brother got pulled over a couple months ago for going 25 over. so not smart. but i spoke to some people and was able to get it reduced with no points and a $200 fine. i dont know what else to tell you but good luck

Boston Heights, Ohio

ANd thats all those fuckers do is pull people over.... they are VERY strict with their tickets.

And any feedback on the overpaying the ticket thing?

your lucky your not in Pennsylvania because 78 in a 50 is enough to get your licenses taken away i think it is like 26 mph over and you get it taken away in PA but im not sure about Ohio

Yeah i think 25 over gets it pulled in VT.

Look into lawyers. Tell your parents, they have more experience than you do, everyone does dumb things.

I might have to end up doing that.....

SO this means a BIG sale coming soon of alot of my gear to pay for it all!

I have had lots of tickets for all kinds of stuff and have found that going to court definatley helps. Getting an attorney is a good idea, but if you don't, just remember to dress nice and be very respectful to the judge. When addressing said judge call them judge so and so not mame or sir or mr or mrs just judge or judge then last name. You could also say your honor. Idk why but they love this, I guess it is another way to be respectful.

get an atourney, go to court plead inocent, if its a local cop talk to him if a state trooper u cant do anything about it till court...i was in a much worse situation and got out of it thanks to an attourney

Tell your parents and GO TO COURT for sure. There is nothing bad that can ever come from taking the ticket to court. Chances are you wont even see a judge, you'll just sit down in a little room with an attorney that works for the county and they will lower your fine and possibly clear it off your record. I don't know if they can take a 28 mph over speeding ticket off your record though but its worth a try.

not always...

my buddy i guess you could say from soccer got pulled over going 92 in a 45 and didn't get his license pullled. and he was 18. huge fine though.

plead not guilty, theres a good chance they'll drop the charges a bit to a lower speed if you talk to the cop before the trial.

and in PA you have to be going 30 over and u loose ur liscence for i think a week

go to court but dont waste your money on a lawyer, since it's your first ticket the judge will go easy on you. I got caught doing 89 in a 55 and went to court. It was my first ticket and I got off with no points. The judge was a super nice guy and the officer who pulled me over was too. Not saying that's gonna happen in your case but it won't be as bad as you think. They are much harder on repeat offenders.

yeah just plead not guilty and you'll probably get a parking ticket or the worst is running a stop sign (2pts, it isnt shit)

Do you know anyone who knows the D.A. or a judge real well? I got pulled over in a school zone going 27 over, could not produce a license (Just got outa work, was going to the lake to wakeboard in shorts, left my wallet in jeans) or proof of insurance (Card was expired, forgot to put my new one in) He gave me a ticket for all three offenses that really fucked me because I only had my license for 9 months. My dad used to be a cop so he talked to the chief of police. The cop would not drop the ticket, even at the request of the chief, so he set up a meeting for me with the D.A., explained to her I was a good kid and bam, ticket filed. No points off, no insurance raising, everything was great.

try it

plead not guilty and take it to court. the cop will usually drop it to 5 over if you're apologetic. he may not even show up which means you get off with nothing. it's you're first offense so the judge will probably take it easy on you. don't waste money on an attorney just dress nice and act polite. I would tell your parents though. it happens to everyone and they'll understand.

lawyers and attorneys? wtf?...am i totally missing something here? haha

any time my friends get a speeding ticket (or my one speeding ticket) they hand it to us...and we just have to pay by a certain date...pretty simple

I know if you were in NJ, you would definitely have to make a court appearance. Just cause you won't lose your license does not mean you do not have to go to court. And if your trying to keep this from your parents, hopefully you are paying your own insurance cause it is going to go up a noticeable amount.
