Speeding Ticket -- Legit question

Background (New York)- Met a cop doing 80 in a 55 I saw him hit his brakes so I just pulled over I had to really slam on the brakes so I didn't drive into the upcoming 30 (which I had no intention of slowing for) So when I came to a stop I was on the 55 side of the 30 sign

Question- When I get to court should I lie and say I was doing 80 in a 30 and argue that he wrote the ticket wrong? or would they just give me a ticket for 80 in a 30.
 
80 in a 30? your a complete fucktard you should slow down a shitload for that a 30 is usually for towns or some shit and if they do get you for that u get super fucked over...good luck
 
no, you guys don't understand. he's asking if he should say 80 in a 30, and claim the cop was "bullshitting" and wrote the ticket wrong.

Yeah bad call.... thats like telling them you didnt kill your neighbor but you've got 3 dead hookers in your basement to try to get out of it.. just take the ticket and be glad the cop didnt try to say you were going faster than 80 and suspend your license
 
i completely disagree. that is not a legit question. 80 in a 30 is criminal speeding. you could go to jail
 
isnt like 35 or 40 over if ur alone attempted suicide and with other people manslaughter or somethin like that?
 
By legit question I mean it hasn't been asked yet unlike all of the other repetitious "I got a ticket" threads

anyways i say just go to court and plead not guilty. take the 80 in a 55 and maybe try to get the points reduced or something. that'd be the safe/smart thing to do.
 
Either lawyer up or send the ticket (trooper?local?) if you're young and 1st offense the punishment will be lightened, If money is a legitamate problem call the officers barracks and ask to speak with the cop, or at least find out when he will be in and try to strike a plea in saying that you will take any alternative punishment. Find out what an ACD is and if you have to go to court be prepared to ask questions (when was he radar last calibrated, when was the cop last certified to use it (provided you weren't paced in which case you ask the same questions about the car). Far from a sure fire way out but it can be worth a chance if he wasn't on typical patrol.

What is most important is that you obtain as man continuances as possible, the more time between you and the ticket the better. Hopefully you were polite and not particularly memorable.

don't try and get out of it. you'll only get fucked. (unless you like getting fucked?) go to court. pray that the cop doesn't show up. when he does, ask for court supervision. watch your ass until you're off of court supervision. rinse & repeat.
 
any thing over 40 miles per hour they take your lincens on the spot, and if you say you did 80 in a 30 then you admitid your gulty to the charge.
 
if you have time, go to court. in my state i dont think you have a lawyer for traffic court, its only like a 12 dollar court fee, and if the cop doesnt show up no ticket. its worked for my dad a couple of times
 
is this a situation where you were doing 80 in a 55 but by the time you were pulled over you were in a 30?
 
i'm not completely sure i'm getting the meaning of this, but if you say you were going 80 in a 30, thats self incrimination
 
you and the other guy are sorely misinformed, if the ticket has any inaccuracies on it - it is void. If they write down the wrong make, model, just about anything the ticket is no good - even if it is going from a 55 to a lower speed zone. That is most definitely NOT self-incriminating, the officer would have to travel back in time and re-issue the ticket for it to matter. A smart move? No, but had it worked in reverse (leaving a 30 going 80 being in a 55mph zone and getting a ticket while being in a 30) then you would want to try to make that argument.

I got out of a ticket just by requesting the cop to be present when I went to court. I may have gotten lucky I dunno, but that did work for me cause the cop never showed.
 
You're only going to get fucked by the law if you bend over and take it. He has the wrong approach but there's no reason not to right the ticket or at least try to talk it down.
