Speeding Ticket, Help

So today i was driving through a little village, and this cop is parked on my right facing the other direction and he radar guns me and pulls me over. He says i was going 47 in a 30. I was going 47, but in the 40 zone a little ways before, he was waiting maybe 10 yards after where it switches to 30. My ticket is 144, which i can deal with and 3 points on my liscence, which gets it taken away where i live. What should i do, contest it? i really dont think i was going 47 in the 30. If i pleaded with the judge, do they ever knock points off of the violation?

thanks

yea def plead not guilty

-cop may not show up and you'll get off totally

-usually lessen the points/amount of fine

so i should plead not guilty, not just go in and be like, "i accept my violation, but i have this and this and this going on and really need to be able to drive"

always plead not guilty and take it to court, there always a chance u could get charged with a smaller infraction and get less points on ur license

first of all, if that was your first time being pulled over for speeding(assuming), he should have just given you a warning.

second, you should easily be able to talk your self out of a ticket like that. say your sorry, you know you were speeding, you were slowing down already when you saw the cop, you'd never driven through there before, didn't see the sign etc.... I got out of a ticket last week for 87 in a 65, just by being honest with the cop.

third. take it to court, don't just pay the fine. explain it to the judge, the entire situation, he should be somewhat understanding. plead not guilty, if your sure it will work, if not admit you were speediing and say you are sorry.

fourth. punishment. You can argue with the judge over this, they are usually very understanding when it comes to this. argue to pay more money if he takes away the points, or to pay the fine and attend traffic school. Do not just accept the ruling if you don't like it. Trust me on this, you have many options, you just need to know how to use them...

tell them just that, you were going to fast anyway, but 17 over is unreasonable because of the speed limit change

definitely, definitely take it to court. my dad got caught doing 79 in a 40, and his fine was over 300 bucks. he did some research, took it to court, and argued that it is impossible in pennsylvania for a cop to get an accurate reading because a lot of them dont use radar guns but a system with two wires that are run over and then some math is done and speed limit is figured out there. he came up with a situation involving him and a truck which i dont feel like esxplaining but in the end he ended up getting completely off. no fine, no points or anything. if you put effort into it you should be able to get off your ticket.

Canada or the US? Which province if in Canda??? If it's Ontario, I may be able to help out a bit. Choose the option on the back of your ticket to take it to court. When you go to court, there is a good chance that the ticket will be knocked down. Let them know you have a good driving record and are concerned about the demerit points. If you are a student, bring that up and say you may have trouble paying that fine and wish to have it reduced for that reason. People who take their tickets to court have a good chance of having it reduced or thrown out. It is for that reason police often won't reduce the ticket on the road any more...if a cop reduces your ticket roadside, take that as your break and count your losses and don't bother taking it to court as there is also a chance of being charged for the original speed.

my friend took going 104 in a 55 to court and they knocked it down to him only doing 9 mph over and he had to do some community service TEST THAT SHIT YOUR GONNA WIN FUCK THE MAN

take it court court, then tell the judge what you did, explain to him why you need to drive, and hell let u off

Yeah Will, thanks a lot for getting pulled over. Although, it is all Mike's fault for not telling you he saw the cop. I would have, but you know, I was sleeping.

take it to court. talk about how he took ur speed while you were in the 40 zone. actually dont do that cus u will still be speeding. that mite knock ur fine and points down tho since u were only goin 7 over instead of 17 or 12 or watever it was. chances are the cops mite not show up.

im guessing youre in the states because in canada i dont believe that a 17 over will get you 3 points. just say that you were on your way to help an old lady cook her supper, and you didnt want her to burn her kictchen down and die. emphasize how old she is. then bring your grandma in, and pretend yo grandma is the old lady. then, secretly eat the old ladys food, even though you were going over there to save her from burning it. shes senile, shell never realize the food is gone.

the lawyer beside me says "always plea not guilty, because often times, they'll let you pay a fine instead of the whole deal."

Just say you weren't going that fast and be like I was going 37 or 38. Thats what I did and my ticket got cleared because I was being "honest". BUt I was really doing 50 ahaha

Plea not guilty. if you plea guilty thats the same as being found guilty after a trial. but if you plea guilty chances are it will be reduced or dropped. so really you have nothing to lose by pleaing not guilty. youl probally end up having to go to court twice but its worth it

question. just got a 84 in a 55. There is no way ill be able to plead guilty. Now do I go in there myself or get a lawyer? I have somewhat of a plan but its sketchy. My car violently shakes between 60-80 mph. I was on a country road and wanted to see if the shaking kept occuring so i went faster. I have since gotten the problem fixed. Do u think that would work telling it to the judge? I need some advice anyone pleease

I wish I knew your secret, even though I'm thinking in my head goddamn you, you pig bastard, I'm honest and polite with the cop and answer his questions legitimately and I have YET to get out of a fucking speeding ticket.

The way I got out of my ticket was going and talking to the cop at his office. I made an appointment, went in and told him the truth. I was speeding, yes, but now my dad isn't allowing me to use the car unless it's for work, school, volunteering, or my big brother program. I'm grounded from the car until I can prove that I'm responsible enough to drive. My dad was with me (as he drove me there, being that I couldn't drive) and said that it was all true. A week later, my dad dropped my grounding and I was back driving. It's simple.

same. i got one ticket like the first month i've been driving for going 15 over on a street thats s.l. is definatly too low and no one was on it. but when i go like 130 on a 45, nothin happens. shits weak

plead not guilty. put up a good arguement but dont sound like a fag

see if your state has a ticket deferral program. thats what i'm on now. i got a 135 ticket and all i have to do is pay like 30 dollars more and not get in trouble for 90 days and the ticket is wiped clean off your slate. the thing is you only get if its your 1st ticket and you can only do it once

My jeep used to do that, got pulled over, said you can get cited with driving an unsafe vechile, which is a much larger fine, plus you have to get your front end fixed to stoop the shakin.

If you got stopped just after the speed limit sign, I would just go in there and say you were in the process of slowing down. I think a lot of judges don't really like it when cops camp out for those bitch tickets anyway.

allright son, do not tell the judge that your cars shakes violently, very bad idea. However, you really have no other excuse to use.

If you can think of a really good excuse that would expain why you were going that fast at that time, which you didn't tell the officer at that time which is ... [insert excuse here] ... then go with that.

Lawyers are really expensive and tend to just do the minimal, I would not recommend this plan cause you probably have more options.

Also, why can't you plead guilty..... it will save you in a situation like this...

What you should do is go talk to the judge on your court date and explain the situation straight up. Tell him that you would not normally be speeding under any circumstances, you weren't in a hurry or anything, and that there were no people and/or traffic around at the time. Simply explain to him that your car was having tremors at speed(specifically say what speeds, like 45-70), and you thought that it was an issue that would go away with speeds greater than x speed because you were hoping that it was not serious because you had very little money to fix it because you are paying for college/car/loan etc... (add that it did go away even if it didn't) Admit that you were speeding and that now that you look back on it, it was a really poor decision that could have turned out poorly, via an accident, injury or whatever. let the judge know that you know what you did was wrong, and assure him that you would never/will never speed again, and that in the future you will take your car into a shop before attempting to solve the problem on your own.

Honesty pays off. believe me.

^^^^ yes there are some issues with the solution I described above, but this is your best option. Pleading not guilty will almost always result in the full or maximum penalty because you know you were speeding, and the cop knows that too. You really don't need a lawyer, unless you have extra scrill sitting around that you want to dump into something that may or may not work.

I'm assuming your ticket was in the 800-1200 hundred dollar region, and if you are under 18, you are lucky they didn't impound your car. That being said, the judge will most likey reduce you fine because he can't just let you off. If you do get the fine, ask to set up a payment plan, it works out to like 30 bucks a month depending on what state you live in. Also, you will probably recieve points on your driving record, which are bad cause they raise your insurance rates and affect your eligibilty if you ever want to get a job that involves driving. You don't want points. Try to work out a deal where you get no points, and like an increased fine. Also ask for community service if you don't want to pay the fine.

hope this helps. pm for questions.

take it to court and first of all change the court date to another that way the cop might not show up and u will win anyways THEN INVEST IN A RADAR DETECTOR AND SPEED AS MUCH AS U FKIN WANT AND GET ONE THAT IS "RADAR DETECTOR DETECTOR PROOF" they exist and the work well, bell sti is a very good one

damnit oakley_kid your the only one that really sounds like you know what your talking about and you think I should plea guilty? why not try and fight it? And why is it a bad idea to tell the judge my car shakes? and how do you go about changing the court date? sorry for all the questions

Like I said earlier in this thread, the lawyer who was sitting next to me said always plead not guilty because they will often offer you a deal (such as a fine or some sort of program).

they almost never offer you a deal, dude. Cause you know ur guilty, and so do they... Not guilty just makes things take longer, you have to plead your case either way...

you will fight it anyway no matter which way you plea.

if you tell him your car shakes, like someone said earlier, you could get hit with a diving an unsafe vehicle charge, or something similar to that.

To change a court date, I pretty sure you have to call up the court, or talk to the DA, which is not really a good idea for just a speeding ticket, and I'm not sure that they will move it unless you have a really good reason.
