speeding ticket HELP!

SO i got my first speeding ticket going skiing today. i'm 18 and have a clean record. I got written up for 55 in a 35 mph zone. It was right as the road (highway) went through an intersection and switched from 35 to 55 mph. Any advice on fighting this or anything that may help? i'm planning on consulting a lawyer on contesting

alright what you do is this, plead no contest, say your speed o was jumping back and forth and you weren't sure how fast you were going so you were pacing yourself with the cars ahead of you, not knowing that they were also speeding, then tell them that as soon as you got back to town you went and had it checked out and it quit doing it and it is fine now. same story i always use and i always get off. it can sometimes help if you know a mechanic to write you a bogus receipt saying that they pulled your speedo cable adn checked it out. adn if they don't totally drop it they will usually just nail you with some sort of faulty equipment thing and that looks better on your insurance than a speeding ticket.

ah shut up about your first ticket. If your 18 just pay the fine, lawyer fees will be a lot more, (even more than insurance rates going up). In my case, I just received my 6th driving offense in a year... so i'm worse off than you (because I already have 10 pts on my license.) it sucks.

 
I got a speeding ticket over a year ago. I disputed it and since the court system in Canada is unorganized, it took them a year to give me a court date. But then I didn't show up for my court date (which happened to be exactly 1 month ago) and they still havnt given me another fine or sent me to prison or anything.

freeski424 your advice sucked. even if i just show up to a court date they will probably cut the fine in half and the lawyer is a free consultation so i can decide my best plan of attack.

yah....from canada and the same thing happened.....

except then one day I got a suspended license notice in the mail....so now I have to pay the fine, plus 100 to get my license back....

so I've been driving for two months without one...

it depends how much money you owe... sometimes its just better to pay things and get on with life. Thats what i did when i got caugh going 150 in a 90... (km/h) about 95 in a 60

i just got my first ticket too...i thought about contesting it but then realized i would have to take time off work, and it would be a pain in the ass. also it doesnt sound like you have a leg to stand on as far as contesting it goes....you got caught breaking the law so just pay the fine and get it over with.

make sure you see a magistrate and let them know its your first offense, tell them your story and ask them to drop the points and just pay the fine. you should always fight it cause if the cop that wrote you the ticket doesnt show up then it gets thrown out anyway. dont go in all cocky be very apologetic.

I got a 50 in a 25, $166 ticket, and i'm going to contest it. My friend got a similar one and said that he's going to college, is a good student, and they kept his record clean and he had to pay $40 to a charity.

 
ya just go to court - the worst thing that can happen is you will have to pay the fine, and waste 30 minutes of your life, but most likely the cop wont even show up and you will be completely off the hook - thats what i did when i got a ticket for passing a school bus - 400$ ticket and i didnt have to pay jack shit

whoever said something about just paying the ticket, because lawyer fees are to expensive should die. practiacally no body brings a fucking lawyer to a traffic violation hearing, you dip sht. SUBPOENA! thats all i can say...subpoena the officer and ask for all of the recoreds regarding the police radar, which includes hit about them saying they are faulty...if they don't supply that shit, they can't charge you...at least in WA, which is where you are from.

i'm not going to bring a lawyer to court i'm just going to consult one becasue ther first visit is a free consulatation so i can figure out what my best plan of attack is.

always contest it. if you at least show up at court and whine a little your ticket should at least get knocked down. i got a 74 in a 45 ticket which was $180 knocked down to $100. I don't know about you but $80 is a lot of money to me. still sucks if it shows on your insurance though.

Damn you folks need to invest in a fuzz buster(they have radar jammers now)$100.00. No more tickets just peace of mind on the road, of course you need to know how to use it properly. I've been driving for many years, without divulging my age probably longer than many folks on NS have been alive. IF YOU SPEED ALL THE TIME, GET A LASER RADAR JAMMER 360 DEGREE DETECTION AND USE IT RIGHT. I have no speeding tickets and I fly home everynight from work a good ten to fifteen mphs over the posted 70 here in MI. I just pick a fast moving car let them cruise up a distance and then I match their speed. They get zapped by the instant on radar and I get the warning. It saved my ass this morning as a matter of fact. no lawyers no courts no insurance increases(above and beyond the usual of course). If you are not allowed to use a fuzz buster cause in some states they are illegal, then slow down!!!

 
it doesnt neccesarily get thru to your insurance company. i got a ticket months ago and there's been no increase

just wait until they run your driving record and it will go up. most likely when you get you insurance renewed it will go up, i'll pretty much guarantee it.

This EXACT same thing happened to me 50/35. I have a court date set for March 19th. I still dunna what I'm gonna say yet though....?

I have some pretty good circumstances. the road changes from 35 to 55 about 100 yds from where i got the ticket. and i was speeding to get infront of a car becasue 2 lanes were breaking down to 1 and it was either slam on the brakes, speed up, or slam into the subaru next to me. so i hope it gets deferred
