Speeding ticket advice

fight it. chances are the cop will be too busy to show up to court and you wont have to pay anything. i got a $450 ticket for passing a school bus on my way to school (it was bullshit, the buss driver was waving me past) but the cop was waiting in front of the bus (the stop was across the street from the PO station). i went to court and he didnt show up so i didnt have to pay shit
 
Just go to court, if it's your first time getting pulled over they will just make you pay the fine at the most and nothing will go on your driving/insurance record.
 
youll have to pay court cost, so if the cop does show the $100 ticket now costs $200. you could just pay a little more and go to traffic school, not go to court and its not on ytour record. What was your ticket for? YOu cant just go to court you have to appeal to the judge, who gives you your "true" court date and the cop is notified, so chances are they will be there
 
say that there is no way it was you. say the cop was 50 feet away giving his radar gun to wide of an area to cover and it tagged the car in front of you but he insisted it was you.
 
most courts will allow you to move the court date if you let them know a few days in advance. Use this to your advantage. Keep postponing the court date over and over again until whenever you see fit.

Then show up at court, if the cop doesn't show the case gets dismissed.

Also in the event that the cop does show, you can win regardless (even if you were in fact speeding and he caught you on radar/speedometer/pace car/laser) but you are going to want to first study case law. Then bring the case law regarding your situation to court, present it to the judge, and ask the officer to present proof of calibration as the case law states.

However, in many states there are recent laws which state that a police officer is "qualified" to use his visual estimation of your speed to within 5 miles of certainty.

Which means that he supossedly knows how fast a car is going just by looking at it. And the law says that he can be off by 5 miles in either direction. Which is why if the speed limit is 55, he won't ever write that you were going 60 mph for example.. He'll be sure to write 61 or something, because he can be off by 5 miles, and this way it protects him.

But, don't worry. Find a way to prove that he can't judge speed accurately at all and it breaks the chain.

Do what my firend and his friends did.

Ok, it was 11 at night so he was approaching an intersection(about 500-1,000ft in front of him) and he's going 70ish in a 25. He sees a black and white cop car with a radar detector, he sees it and says, "shit" puts on the brake. a split second later, he realizes it's not going to matter, he's already going 45 over and the cop is too close for braking to make a difference. He says, "fuck it," slams down the accerator goes up to about 100m/h past the cop in his mustang, and runs a red light. He makes a hard right turn at about 80 m/h, barely skidding into a random shopping center, just as the cop is turning on his lights and turning onto the road to catch them. They see there is a chinese resturaunt, so they sprint out of the car into the restaurant to hide from the the cop who is chasing them. They come into the resruarant and well, they decide to order food. The cop never comes, they get out of the restuarant and check everywhere and decide to leave. On the way home, a black and white car pulls up next to them. It is the exact same car as the police car that chased them earlier. everybody is like, "holy shit, what are we gonna do." This kid john takes a closer look and says, "It's ok. He's got a turban." so it was a taxi. They get home and eat the rest of the chinese food, and they only gave them one fortune cookie. He opens it up and it says, "The best way to avoid a bad situation is with good manners, unless you have good reflexes." The end.
 
Fight it. And get radar - An Escort 8500 X 50. That thing is so freaking sick it has saved my ass from about 30 tickets.
 
i have a bit of experience with this... i've watch friends try to fight theirs and i've gone to court in an attempt to see if the cop shows up.. then asked for an adjournement, gone back - cop shows up again though, pleaded guilty then paid the fine over 2 years (saying that I was a student). the points in some provinces/states don't go on to your record usually until you finish paying off the ticket, so if you're in danger of losing your license, keep that im mind since speeding tickets normally only last 2 years on your license.

check if everything on the ticket is filled in correctly. If they don't print your name in capital letters, you can get off with that because you can say that you spell your name differently (but you have to support that evidence) and that it's the wrong person. wrong birthdays sometimes work and time of day, date of infraction also can get you off the hook. If these things come up and are on your ticket, get a lawyer friend to present it in court for you though. if it was raining or at night, you could claim that it wasn't your car.

it's also probably too late for that though. It should be a lesson. Ask a million questions when the officer pulls you over - ask to see the radar gun, that type of stuff..

I personally did that, I was speeding downtown and met a cop cresting a hill - there was no way that he could have clocked me but still presented me with a speeding ticket. I was thorough with him and he reasoned with me and gave me a ticket for violating a traffic sign (the speed limit).. no points and only $50. I was going to take that to court, but I decided not to push my luck cause he was a nice guy.

if you do go to court they will ask you why the speed on the ticket is wrong and they know that most people will say something like "i was only going 5 over the limit" -- as soon as you say that, it's over.. you just admitted that you were speeding.
 
so im driving down the highway going 75 in a 55 which is basically nothing but i just drove by him and i didnt have to worry about it because he never turned around and turned on his lights. heres a tip if your going on a divided highway and you see a popo coming in the other direction all you have to do is take the next exit adn just take a few corners adn chances are he'll never find you or just take off in the way your already going....or he might not even turn around.
 
^I tried that once and it really pisses them off. If you see a cop on a devided highway stomp on your fucking breaks hard and slow to the speed limit as fast a safely possable and hope the your deceleration made it hard for the radar to lock in the speed.

or just give him the finger and swerve head-on into his lane...lets see how well he can write a ticket wearing his engine compartment as a bonnet.
 
actually, if you make 3 seperate turns onto different roads after you speed you can't be pulled over for it anymore. In the US anyway. If you ahve a ticket jsut pay it, you'll never win against a cop, it will cost you more in the end. I have 3 tickets and 2 wrecks,And I'm 18. I've been through the court system way to many times. You will not win/ Plus he does have you on film.
 
That really doesn't work man. They do not have to show you the radar gun because I got pulled over because an airplane spotted me out on the highway. So really they do not need to show you a radar gun to give you a speeding ticket.

yeah, if its a dude definatly show some cleavage. I know a girl that got out of a DWI. She was a stripper so she knows what guys like and she was exposing alot. clearly drunk, cop let her go
 
i am in the same situation as you huntachick, i just got a speeding ticket and am trying to fugure out what to do. i am just going to call the dmv and see what i can do to get it off my record. hopefully i just have to pay the ticket and go to driving school.
 
ASK FOR A PLEA AND OBEANCE(sp) THAT MEANS YOU PLEA NO CONTEST AND AFTER THREE MOTHS IF YOU DONT GET ANY MORE MOVING VIOLATIONS IT IS WIPED FROM YOUR FILE.
