Speed limits for skiing! Seriously?

i just skimmed it but 30kph?? it's seriously hard to go that slow... is it on just the bunny hill or something?

I really doubt that'll be enforced. Who's to say what's reckless skiing and what isn't? You can't have an actual speed limit.

''We did it because that's what people wanted.'' i seriously think we should stop referring to gapers as ''people''

The idea has merit when perhaps it is localized in certain areas of a given ski resort.. ie, the bunny hill, or for zones already designated as 'slow'. That being said, if ski resorts become overzealous and institute these sorts of regulations all over the place, you can bet there will be a backlash from the experienced skiers and snowboarders, for obvious reasons.
I know if I had, say, children under 10 skiing around on learners runs, I'd appreciate it if park rats weren't bombing switch around them, and similarly, if racers weren't sending it on these runs. Thats where I feel a speed limit would perhaps be appropriate.
On the other hand, I don't think there's a place for radar guns and monetary penalties for shredding fast around the majority of a given mountain's runs.

30 kph wtf nobody could go that slow. Like come on how is anyone suppose to actually carve and do GS turns at that speed. Complete BS and will not be enforced at all.

its not what u guys thing are u telling me uve never seen a sign that says slow zone? i mean it makes sense for people learing how to ski it would be frustrating to have people skiing recklessley around so i understand as long as i dont see speed signs on my favoirte runs. i will say i once had my pass pulled for skiing in the woods now that was gay

Total bullshit. When u are on the mtn u are taking personal responsibilty for ur actions, as in if u hit someone in a slow zone u can be sued. How about ski areas issuing tickets for snowboarders sitting on the backside of rollers, or people turning irradically and using the entire run on a groomed black, as they ar a bigger hazard than people goin fast. The only two double ejections I had last year were because of those two things. At t-ride I had some dude threaten to give me a ticket for reckless skiing, because when I came out of the bottom of the park, I ollied off of a little three foot roller near the lift, I wasn't even going fast. How far are the mega resorts going to take this idea. That is why I love sugar bowl, alpine and the wood, never had any patroller say anything to me because i'm obivously under control

I laugh at this living on the east coast, where it is nothing but ice, so u always go fast. but how funny would it look seeing a ski patroler, instead of with a whistle, with a radar gun to tell you you are going to fast, like hiding in the woods and shit, I would laugh so hard

haha I can picture the ski po with their radar guns. son, do you know how fast you were going?

thousands of kids bruising heels because they could not clear the jump while obeying the speed limit haha.

this is gonna have a pretty serious negative effect on the progression of skiing if no one can get any speed for a jump.
just sayin

"France reported several deaths in the 2006-2007 ski season due to high-speed collisions."

collisions into other people? or into trees and rocks?

i think they will only have the radars and shit in the SLOW zones. where theres alot of people (gapers).

i dont think there gonna have it where people are hitting the park...

People need to fucking realize that when they are skiing, they take responsibility for themselves. Its not fair to us when we are just crusin down a run and some little gaper kid is just sitting on the downside of a knoll and he hit them. Then we get bitched out by the parents. such bullshit.

hahahaha, jail time, just because someone might scrap a knee, sounds like a troll,

pc has aids anyways

didn't read the article, but you'd have to catch me to give me a ticket. good luck with that, fucker.
*disclaimer - I'm all for skiing responsibly on Green runs, etc. where the majority of skiers on the hill are far less competent than most of us.*

hahaha no doubt the people complaining the most about this are the people who caused this law to be passed. all of you who have your "funny" stories about almost hitting gapers when you are going way to fast down greens YOU are the reason why this was enacted.

hears the question though how the fuck are you suposed to tell how fast youre going unless you spend like 10gs on those stupid fucking goggles it would be pretty hard to say "ya i think im going about 25mph right now

I am waiting for saftey patrol to have lightbars on top of their helmets and traffic lights at all the major trail intersections. this is getting redic. then trails we be renamed to the jersey turnpike or the LIE

yea im pretty sure they dont care how fast you are dropping into corbetts couloir but when you jokers are mobbing switch down the bunny slopes MFM'ing gapers thats where the problems come from.

There have been serious collisions into other people even here in the US. One of my dad's good friend lost his wife in a ski accident. Some fucker was out of control going way to fast and just fuckn nailed her, I think she went flying into a tree but I'm not sure.

In front of the eyes of a husband and two sons they see a guy out of control running fullspeed into their mom/wife and there's nothing they can do to stop it.

Speed is not an issue, its out of control skiing people going fast.

I support this idea. At the end of the article it mentioned they are going to put signs up that read and display your speed. It will be really fun to see them light up when you blow past them going like double the speed you are supposed to, just like when they have similar signs on the streets.

haha its so true, those signs are supposed to make youslow down. but fuck that, lets see how fast we can go through it lol.

but this would be kinda fucked. its like telling downhill mountain bikers that they cant go past 30 when going down the hill.

but how can they patrol this? are the ski pattrollers gonna have rader guns or something?

They can't patrol it unless they have radar, but then we'd kinda need speedometers. It seems stupid that you could get in trouble or something you can't really sense. Like it's clear if you're going fast but I have no clue of my speed in terms of mph and especially not kph while skiing. When you go 25 on a longboard it feels so much faster, probably the same on skis.

Fuck that shit. I might ski fast but I've never hit anyone. I give people enough room that even if I total, I won't hit anyone.

no its not. they arent going to put speedometers on the inrun to the jump line at breck, or big culoir at big sky.

this is to cut down on the morons endangering beginners blowing through green slow areas way too fast.
