Speed limits for skiing! Seriously?

I think it depends on who you pass. If you pass a gaper in any near proximity going faster than 15mph they'll claim you were out of control. Somebody could pass me doing 50, as long as they don't hit me I don't care. Gapers also view any tricks/newschool stuff as reckless half the time. Even if you can ski backwards better than they can ski forwards they see you as reckless.

People are too concerned with what could have happened and don't realize what really happened. Of course an out of control skier creates more of risk but you're skiing, it's not exactly the safest sport. Just like driving, I'm just as concerned with my driving as all the other idiots on the road.

Longboarding made me think I was going slower on skis. 30+ on a Longboard feels like the most dangerous thing you have ever fucking done and like a slight breeze could kill you, but full speed on skis (straight lining a steep groomer, no clue how fast that is) feels like nothing at all. But then my dad said his buddy got some fancy speedometer thing and clocked them going like over 40 and I know I can go way faster than both of them so IDK. But then Dumont hitting that giant quarterpipe only clocked in at like 55 and he's getting towed behind a snowmobile.
tl;dr how the fuck fast do you go on skis?

I used a flaik last year (gps tracker they were demoing out) and my max speed was like 52mph and I was skiing some steeper off trail stuff on like a foot of fresh. Gotta be going at least a little faster on steep groomed. I disagree with any one who says that the risk of collision in the green zone is a huge problem. In those areas generally one can't generate enough soeed to be that much of a danger, the major risk of bodily injury and death comes from people who just don't know skiing ediquite. It people that are over their heads on steep groomers (generally black runs) that stop behind rollers, or snowboarders that heel slide them super slow or sit down on the back side of rollers (necause it is easier for them to stand up than flatter areas) that are the bigges risk of causing a death or even getting killed themselves. I know the only two times that I have nearly hit someone (both happened on weekdays that were not crowded) were a result of this.

Yeah I'd rather go 30 on skis then on a longboard. I'm fine going mega fast on skis for some reason but when you're above concrete and pebble could send you flying it's a bit scarier.

"Richard Slater, a British skier and father of three told reporters, ‘It’s particularly good if you have young children and want them to be able to ski without being hit by out of control skiers going too fast.’"

funniest thing ever. pretty sad when some 20 something snowboarders handle the situation better than the dad.

Pretty sorry that the dad was going faster than they were, then called them reckless, and hit a dude, what a d bag. Funny as hell tho

lol this entire subject just screams that video

and yeah it was mentioned earlier.. im pretty sure it's already a crime to ski recklessly.

if you look at the signs posted on the lift towers of many resorts (california), some of them specify being in a crash and taking off without making sure the other person is alright and other such behavior as being against the law. it even states the section of the calif penal code

Well you got a lot more surface area on skis than on four skinny wheels on a longboard.

That and the fact that falling on snow doesn't cut you up and give you roadburn
