ok so i recently got a 2005.5 Jetta. My parents are tards and decided it would be a good idea to set a speed alarm because they think i drive too fast. I havent had a chance to test it out yet , but i was wondering if anyone knew what happenes. like, is there just an alarm that goes off of is there a way to check how many times ive set it off?

It's probably the oppisite of what happens in that movie. If your car goes above 55 it blows up.

but seriously probably it just notifies your parents when you go above the limit they set.

or it just cuts off the engine if you go over a certain speed limit untill you reach a speed it wont be set off at ?

Find a way to change it, modify it, dismantle it. Tell your parents that your insulted because they don't trust you.

take the batteries out or replace them with dead ones. thats if it takes batteries tho

well it obvioulsy has to be set for the highest speed limit....otherwise that would be stupid. Just go over by a couple mph and see what happens

How does SpeedGenie Work?

When activated, the SpeedGenie system measures the speed at which your

vehicle is being driven. When you press the switch, the system remembers your

current road speed and uses this as your own personal speed limit. When you drive

at a speed 10% higher than this set limit, the system will 'beep' at you to warn

you. All the time you are above your set limit, the system will give 3 beeps every

4 seconds. When you drop below the set limit, the system stops beeping. When the

system is beeping, it also flashes the light built into the operating switch.

As an example, if you press the switch at 40 mph, the system will alert you

when your speed reaches 44 mph and will stay active all the time you are above

this speed. When your speed drops below 44 mph again, the system stops beeping.

Each time you press the switch, your current road speed is used as the limit.

As you enter different speed limits, you just adjust your road speed accordingly

and then press the switch to set your new limit.

How do I operate SpeedGenie?

As with all good products, operation could not be easier! The sequence is as

follows:-

Setting the System

Step 1

Drive at the speed you wish to be limited to.

Step 2

Press the switch to activate the system. The switch will light to indicate

that the system is on.

Step 3

If the selected speed is exceeded, the system will beep and the switch light

will flash.

Step 4

To set a new limit, just press the switch again when you are at your required

speed.

De-activating the system

Step 1

Press and hold the switch down for 2 seconds. The switch light will go out.

Step 2

The SpeedGenie is now de-activated until you require it again.

Yeah but the problem with this device is that it's you who set the speed limit. Ex,: You are on a 50mph speed limit road, you go at 50, you press the button and the limit will be set to 50mph so when you go faster than this, the light flashes and it beeps. The device was meant to protect you from having tickets and being pulled off, the parents won't be aware of how fast she goes (assuming this is the device she has).

and where the limits like 30mph you could still speed unless its under 20mph...that dosen't seem very logical

i think thats a different thing. what the OP is probably talking about is a device that records if/when she goes over the limit they set

During my job this summer, I was talking to this orkin man, and they have speed alarms. Basically if you go over the speed, a really annoying alarm goes off, if he doesn't decrease speed in 10 seconds or so, a message is sent to the headquarters and he gets in trouble. he had a seat belt alarm too.

She says she hasnt tested it yet so my guess is it is just like the speedgenie. My dad has an Audi Allroad that has a speed alarm that you can set at any speed and will go off when you go over it. You can easily turn it off or set it to whatever speed you want. No records or anything, jsut some beeps. He uses it on long drives on highways so he doesn't get pulled over

My dads car has a speed alarm, it just starts beeping crazily when you reach 120 kph, its illegal to not have one here.

or instead of wasting hundreds of dollars on this alarm, you could just pay more attention. I know it's hard to pay attention when you're driving, but if you try really really hard, it is possible...

this alarm stuff is just stupid.

thanks to everyone + karma. its a built in device in the car. and i went over today by about 10 mph or so and nothing happened so maybe it was just a threat.

^you went over what? if the speed limit is 30 and you went 40, i dont think it'l go off. it sounds like they just set it to a high speed and it goes off if you do that. if they put it in the car to stop you speeding/record speeds, then it wont know what speed you're supposed to be going. try going faster on a highway, say 15 over. if nothing happens then yeah it was just a threat. i dont think it was the product that was posted above as a personal use thing. i think it was just somthin to let ur parents know if you ever went over 70 or somthin.

hmm. well maybe it either send info to them, or records it in the car and they can look at it wenever they want. if you dont hear anything from them in the next week or so and you've obv gone over a speed they'd like you to be at, well i guess they lied to you haha.

if you have a friend thats good with cars have them look at it and see if they can find anything

In Ft Lauderdale, they are using similar units on cops to prevent speeding. If a cop goes over 80 and is not responding to a call they get a ticket. It still gives a lot of leeway if the speedlimit if 35 but I think it's a good start to curbing cops who break traffic laws all day.
