What is good in South Lake? I'm moving there at the beginning of September and wanted to know whats cool in south lake!
 
Lots of cool things in south lake. Honestly, it's really never-ending fun.

Sick mountainbike trails, cool nightlife and shows come through, tons of hikes and you have a whole heap of wilderness area to check out... cliffdiving spots all over. Usually in sept, the water is pretty nice and warm on the lakes so you could always go chill on the beach and wakeboarding's pretty rad.

then of course in winter, heavenly and sierra are right there, and kirkwood's 35 mins away and has even better snow... Pretty legit situation.
 
South Lake is ghetto-ish, by that I mean it's probably the only part of Lake Tahoe that's remained somewhat affordable and not taken over by giant houses and overpriced stuff.
One really nifty zone is this so-called Meiss Country around Luther Pass on the 89, it's kind of this mysterious zone that doesn't get explored much. I also love the area around Hope Valley and Carson Pass towards the 'wood.

I lived up on Kingsbury grade years ago, and I visit probably once a year at most, these days.
Great memories and such, but I've moved on, not necessarily to better things or better places, though.
 
I'd add that I'm probably in the minority, but I really do like Heavenly, especially that tree zone along the CA / NV border.
And the fall colors along the roads south of SLT are fantastic. Hike Tallac after you arrive.

 
South Lake is definitely more legit than North Lake in the sense that its not all celebrity gapers. I know some snowboarders that spent last winter there and had lots of fun. Kirkwood, Heavenly, and Sierra are all sick mountains.
 
You're full of it... Southlake is gaper hell during the wintertime just because of the bigger casinos...

North Lake is WAY more legit. Nobody who really knows will ever question that... however, SLT does have it's perks, and I wouldn't ever mind being there. It IS still Tahoe...
 
So basically what you are saying is that at casinos you can buy escorts which will give you a rim job, not for cash, but because they like you, then you pay them because you like them, not for the rim job?
 
Sorry I meant that North Lake has way more money, Squaw season passes start at $695, and everywhere in Tahoe you find gapers.
 
I wouldn't say it has more money... I got my pass at squaw last year for something like 450. That's nothing at all. IF their most expensive pass is still under 700 bucks, then that absolutely murders most passes around at other big resorts...

besides. a place like squaw? that held the olympics and has amenities that most ski areas would DREAM of? like an icerink at 8200 feet or a pool or arguably the most gnarly and varied terrain in the country? I'd pay 700 any day for that sorta shit... (for the terrain alone, obviously)

Anyways... any resort, anywhere in the world has gapers... so what are you going to do. who cares. if you're good enough, you wont ever see them at a place like squaw because you'll be skiing where gapers cant go...
 
K-wood is the spot. Mellow scene and more snow compared to places like Squaw and Northstar. Beautiful too. Sierra's not bad either.
 
True, Squaw has so much terrain and amenities. Even with the shitty snow we had I still had some great skiing there.
The only gapers I found were at the top of the mountain trying to learn to ski, it was real nice not seeing too many others while shredding awesome terrain
