South lake tahoe

I would post this in the regional forum but people aren't very good about actually using that section. If you are 28 yrs old or older and live in south lake tahoe how do you like living there? or if you live in any other ski town and you like living there tell me about it. Thinking of moving from NYC to a ski city/town that is fun. Somewhere that has great skiing but is also fun to live in other things to do, outdoor activites, good restaurants, music, etc. But I only want to hear from people who like to go out but aren't 21 and only want to party all the time. I would like to know how south lake tahoe especially or if you think somewhere else is better that has good quality of living all round let me know!!!

im not 28 or anything but i did go to south lake tahoe and is was sooo good

PM waynewong. He is an old school rightcoaster that has been livin in Tahoe for almost 10 years now. He will give you the lowdown. -G

Hey G - get your ass out here for some west coast stomping...

I amold school now huh?? dammm it!

..

oh well

South Lake??

its Ok...tight job market...lots of casinos...easy access to kirkwood and BC...lots of chill people between 25-35

South Lake is wierd though...strange 60-modernist vibe mixed with rich tourists...

I prefer north ...alpine and squaw kill heavenly and k-wood..but then again you can get a pass to the wood for uber cheap...both places are good...if here for skiing come to the north shore

Hey Geo --- FYI --- russian yoga instructor= FUN

D, you know you're a true OG rightcoaster. I will be out once you guys have snow again, or maybe sooner if I can get a cheap flight into Reno or SF. Hope all is well. REVE4CE-G

FYI.. check out the new 311...

North shore has a much better year round group of people...everyone here has the same attitude...but it is a tourist town so your NY attitude will take some time to adjust...it took me five seasons to slow it down to Tahoe Time....

I have no problems slowing down my pace what I am worried about is moving to an area that is redneck and anti anything but white people which is how most of the ski areas in the NY/new england seem.

i moved to alpine meadows from strong island 8 years ago...it is a bit redneck (in truckee atleast) but the attitude is definetly cool...i have met some awsome people and get to ski with the folks the kiddies here jerk off to in videos on a daily basis...

great place...i have made it my home...no intention on leaving

I came out here for "one season" and have not found a reason to leave yet

the vibe here is more based on your attitude then anything else...we judge ya on how you ski and how you treat our bros...nothing else...there is very little townie attitude...as the locals here are pretty much all like minded...

much cooler than back east

and what are your thoughts on south lake and why is north better than south. I went to south lake last winter and skied mostly Heavenly and we met some really cool chilled out people there. we skied mostly Heavenly and I really like it(also my 1st trip out west) the moutnain was really chilled out and everyone was really nice. Everyone told us that we had to go to squaw. So on our last day we went to squaw and I don't know if it was because we were tired after 6 days of skiing but it felt really snotty and agressive compared to Heavenly. I would like to hear the opinions of people who live there.

^^ i am an alpine meadows addict...unlimited BC, awsome people, great supportive.porgressive attitude...squaw is the opposite ... BUT -- Squaw has some of the best lift serviced terrain in the world...

Heavenly will get old quick...but Kirkwood is great and only 30 minutes from South Lake. Heavenly is much more "gaper" oriented...or as they are called C.O.D.s - californians on demo skis ...

North shore is more “uppidy and rich...If that makes sense. South shore has a lot more different varieties of people, because the job market is so huge. It’s much cheaper to live too. You can choose from Kirkwood which has amazing BC, or Sierra or Heavenly. None of them are “bad.

I love living here.. I can imagine moving. In the summer there’s so much to do. You can mountain bike, dirt bike, hike, wakeboard, hang out at the beach, etc. All around Tahoe (south and north) is soo sick all seasons.

i saw a black guy skiing at heavanly

Its only for decoration thats it and thats all

What goes on in the gondala stays in the gondala

every year there's this huge club or something that comes for a couple days to ski and snowboard. riding up the chair you always hear "we're NOT made for this!!" or something along those lines. it's pretty funny...

^no it was no club, just one single token black guy.

i would recomend north lake unless you want a huge touristy scene. north lake is near trukee and there is a super cool local scene. im only 15 but the party scene for me is really cool. north lake is cheaper i think too. and you get the squaw/alpine terrain and the northstar park.

a best friend is the guy on your right saying, 'damn that was fun'

I spent three seasons just outside of Tahoe. I worked weekends at Boreal one season and skied there and Alpine for free. Alpine speaks for itself and Boreal's always open and empty at night when you just can't wait for the storm total in the morning. I got a Heavenly pass for my second season and couldn't stand how they pushed the gambling more than the skiing. That's o.k. because it's way too crowded anyhow. This season Squaw was free for military (yipee) and I rode there about 40 times. I spent more time on my sled in the Mt. Rose bc and surely had the best season of my life. Also, remember Heavenly never gets the snow the rest of the Tahoe resorts get. Live in Truckee and be joyful. 20ft in 3 weeks, how's that for a holiday treat?

^^hell yeah

its was nutzo this holiday season...we were cruising from olympic heights to prosser in bottomless pow while the resorts were closed down....so many windshield deep sled days back near mt watson...

great sick weekend storm days that scared everyone away also...so many 2-inch an hour saturdays at alpine

Sadly, I won't be in Tahoe this winter. I'll be in SOCAL for an internship. Hopefully something will pan out where I can work and ski there again.

i spent three months in diego three winters ago...surfed 30 days straight while rehabing rom a knee surgery in the fall

sick surf...sick MX scene and baja...plus the ladys r so fine

Yeah, I need to score a board. They're pricy though. I'm sure I'll come up w/ something though. I'll be a little north from there in San Juan Capistrano.

Quick! Answer this question!

How far is U of Nevada/Reno from the main places(either north or south) and how far are each mountains from each other, including north and south, in average driving time?

Stay Classy Newschoolers

UNR to Mt. Rose = around 25 min

UNR to Northstar = 35 min

UNR to Alpine/Squaw = 40 - 45 min

UNR to Heavenly = about 1hr 30min

south lake does have a weird vibe. like courtney said, there is a huge variety of people. it's pretty fun to chill at the casino's at night and meet new people. the night scene is pretty crazy on the weekends too. i skied at heavenly for 14yrs and loved it but each year the tourists and gapers would get worse. at least that's how it felt to me.. the park got better each year, so you are trading one thing for the other i guess.

now i go to school at UNR and ski at alpine. i freakin love that mountain. the atmosphere is really chill and most of the people there are locals which is nice.

no matter what side (south or north)you decide, you will have an amazing experience. and you can travel to the other side for the day.. it's not like it is a long trip. some dudes are swimming the length of the lake this summer, 22 miles or some crazy shit.

i wish i was moving to tahoe
