Not alot of snow and really cold, so the hills are icy. But they have decent parks, and they're open 24 hours. South Korea is worth a trip though, its a cool country with awesome scenery, delicious food and crazy fun people.

You may as well come to Japan for skiing, it's a similar distance to Korea. Cheap flights with Peach Airlines to Kansai. Or direct to Sapporo with Cathay.

Where will you be living in HK? I used to live there when I was a kid.

Living in Central I guess, haven't worked that bit out yet! Can't believe they don't have any indoor skiing - I figured that's exactly the kind of thing they would do with their $trillions...

Japanese powder is so appealing, but it looks like all the good stuff is miles form the airports; what are the closest good spots to Kansai & Sapporo?

I hope I get lots of holiday time with my new job...

go to japan if possible, the entire island of hakaido is snowbound and even the cheap resorts are fuckign amazing

It's hard finding information out on skiing in Japan, especially regarding logistics. Do you have any idea which resorts are quickest to get to from an airport that I can fly to from HK? Time is not on my side...

Cheers for all the help everyone on this thread.

If you fly direct from HK to Sapporo, you're within 2-3 hrs bus from Niseko or Rusutsu which are the best known and largest ski areas. Sapporo itself has a few really good ski hills which would be more than enough for a short trip. Teine, Kokusai, and a little further away Kiroro. The closest decent hill to Sapporo (Chitose) airport is Mount Racey which doesn't get quite as much snow but is fun for a day or two. If you want any details on skiing on Hokkaido, drop me a PM

I don't know too much about the ski areas close to Kansai or Tokyo. www.snowjapanforums.com would be a good place to ask. The rail and bus services are all very efficient, so you wouldn't be too far from some decent skiing.

But definitely go to South Korea for a non skiing trip. It's awesome.

Enjoy HK!
