Soul Crew Keystone & Breck Edit

In mid November I got a call from my Soul Crew friend Gerhard Muelheims asking if I would be interested in flying to Boulder that weekend to visit Soul Crew skiers Evan Furbeyre and Sully Blake and ski Keystone and Breck. So we did, and while the weather didn't cooperate (snowing and flat light all three days) we still managed to get some shots.
I realize there are a lot of mistakes in this edit and there are a lot of things I would do differently, but I still thought I would share it with you guys. It was my first time using my T2i in snow and almost my first time using the Glidecam ever, so a lot of it was an experiment.
Hope you guys like it,Will Start

very sick edit. perfect sound levels of the footage, just loud enough to hear the skis on the rails but not interfere with the music. watch that you don't blow out the snow.

thanks, it was one of the first times i messed around with audio so i'm glad it sounded good. i know what you mean about the snow though. with the flat light it's so difficult to expose the snow properly without darkening the shit out of clothing colors and skin tones

haha pretty funny he wears a slalom bar for shredding. he kills it for sure.

but the edit was superrr sick dude i loved it. haven't heard that song in a while so that was a nice surprise and the filming/editing was dope. really well put together, enjoyed it a lot.

thanks! haha yea if you watch our edits, we're not really jumpers for the most part. We have some kids who slay at jumps, but they weren't on the trip with us.

practice practice practice mang. its difficult for sure.

what picture style were you using? and fstop?

very cool man. i liked it a lot. good work, keep it up.

PERFECT song. i really dug it.

i get sick of vignette fast, but i liked it in this edit.

Birrion is so legit. i see him all the time.

really good stuff here.

i liked it.

filming was dope and skiers got skills.

and the music choice was smart.

thanks for the feedback!
i think the perfect exposure was basically impossible that day, i played around with settings but could never find one that brought out detail in the snow while retaining true outerwear colors.
I was shooting using the superflat style, although i think next time i'll bump saturation and contrast up in-camera just a tiny bit. As for f-stop, that changed. But I love shallow depth of field so most of the time I was shooting with my 17-55mm I was probably at f/2.8 and when i was using the 85mm I was probably at f/1.8.
The vignette wasn't even an intentional effect actually, I was just using the spot exposure tool to bring out the detail in certain parts of the show without blowing out the whole thing. glad you liked it though

Hell yeah Will, this looked so good - I was frustrated with math homework last night and this made me happy again - good stuff! If I can I'll post back later with a little more meaningful feedback haha but in the meantime - love it!

exactly. skis over 200 and something days a year, i'll have to ask him later how many days he got last year. i've never met anybody who loves skiing as much as he does.
