Sorta noob question but do skis break in...

A little bit, but it's usually not that noticable. However, with foam core skis, those are basically breaking in a bit more every day. I've had two pairs of foam core skis and they just got a little softer every day until I couldn't stand it anymore. That's why wood core kicks ass.

All skis with all cores lose personality if you ski them hard and alot, they also lose camber.. not just foam wood does it to.

Plus, you don't just break in the inner part of the ski. Also, the outer part of the ski gets broken in. Like, rails, jibs.. City rails, Rock hits, tree bonks, what have you..... All those things damage the outer part of the ski. Cosmetics of the ski. Honestly I'm not happy unless, my skis are pretty bunged up. I think it makes them easier to control, and more forgiving.

I prefer my skis broken in.

correct but foam deteriorates much faster than wood! it's ok if you're like 150lbs and don't ski too hard but for everyone else wood is dope!

yeah cuz i had the old tm's the first green ones and they were pretty stiff wehn i got them but by the end of the season i could feel a small difference

just find a wall and stand on ur tips for a bit then switch and lean against the wall and stand on ur tails if u need them to flex that bad

it differs from ski to ski how hard and continous riding affects the performance of the ski.

until some point i would say that you need to adapt the ski to your riding style, this little difference is noteable on some skis i think.

but most skis get pretty fucked up after one or at least two years of hard riding. "fucked up" is a term i use to describe that there is def. a difference (depending on the core construction, type, material and other stuff) after one or two years, i dont want to say that they arent rideable anymore or better or worse, but skis change, hopefully before you break them or rip the whole edges out.

I bet they do. I know carbon fiber bike frames become dead after a season or two of hard riding, I don't see why a carbon ski wouldn't.

that cause foam core crack up...i love salomon skis and there weight but i will add a littile weight for a core that doesnt crack up...please make wood core skis salomon (besides the dumont)

I had a pair of the first generation Publics that I skied into the ground for 2.5 seasons. Later, i got on a pair of first gen publics that had maybe 15 days on them... BIG difference. They do break in, some just faster than others

I also had a pair of Liberty SB180s, they skied well, but got softer every day that I skied them, and broke on the 6th day.

yay, salomon sucks, their skis are foam!

yes, foam does break in... but not much more than wood might.

i'm pretttty sure that if salomon has incorporated this technology in their skis for the second year in a row, they know whats up. they make their money selling their skis to people who arn't as arrogant as you are.

salomon does not suck. i'll say with confidence you are saying this from the bandwagon.

Depending on how much you ski park, your skis will come apart before they get broke in. atleast for me my edges underneath my foot are gone before the flex is.

im saying it because my 110 pound friend broke pair of brand new pocket rockets off a 10 foot cornice. I am around enough skis to make up my own opinion dickhead, dont act like ou know what im about. Ive seen more people out for the day with equipment issues on solomon skis and bindings. I ski a shitload. Whatev dude go ahead have fun on them, i sure as fuck wont be riding solomon sticks.

Salomon's bad reputation has to start somewhere. I've had two pairs of Salomons that broke down and became dead noodles within a season, so am I a part of this generalizing bandwagon? Don't make assumptions about people if you know nothing about them.

yeah, its like everywhere, some people like it and some hate it, i myself rode the 1080s from 3 or 4 seasons for 2 years

(the ones with the yellowish base with "SALOMON" written all over it, and the 161 was kinda yellow/green, the 171 silver and the 181 orange, the blue one (151) wasnt made in that year)

and didnt have big problems. sure, they get softer but mine were still in good shape after two years and my buddy is ripping one of them until this day.

don't try to break them in more, just let it happen. my pistols are ruined cus i stood on the tips all the time

Any core will break down. It depends on the material and how hard you ride the ski. Basically you tell when your core is broken down when there is no arch left under the ski while it is against a flat surface. That doesnt mean the ski isnt rideable it just means your core is broken down. You can still ride the ski but your going to get a more responsive ride with a less broken down ski. I ride hard and I got 2 seasons out of the black and white pubs. (04-05?)

I personally really enjoy beating the shit out of all my skis, which makes me think i should hold off on new ones until i get a real job. they're like underwear though, as they said in dumb and dumber

My Salomon CR labs held up well for two seasons and I'm 200lbs. Interestingly, the left ski still has camber and the right ski almost dead flat. That's when I decided to replace them. I'm pretty sure I'll never have a ski that I can ski hard for more than two seasons and have them not be worth replacing.

It's hard to argue that Salomon skis don't have the best feel when you ride them. Super fast turns, forgiving, good edge hold. However they do break down after 1 or 2 seasons of 30+ days. However, how many people ski more than 10 days a season? I think Salomon caters to that market.
