Windsor man sentenced to 4 months in jail for injuring dog with condom

at 11:27 on September 18, 2010, EDT.

WINDSOR, Ont. - A Windsor man who tied a condom to his dog, injuring the animal so severely that it had to be put down, has received a four-month jail term.

Anjalo Abeywickrema, 51, told the court Friday he wasn't thinking right when he put a condom on his black lab to stop it from urinating inside the house.

The dog ran off and was found on Louis Avenue back in May with its genitals so badly mutilated that it had to be euthanized.

Abeywickrema will serve four months in jail, will be on probation for two years and has received a five-year ban from owning an animal.

Defence lawyer Kevin Shannon says Abeywickrema is sorry for what he did.

Abeywickrema was on parole for manslaughter when the incident happened.

while that is terrible, on a lighter note, at least he was not trying to kill or even injure the dog. and to applejuice, should we throw everybody who runs over a squirrel in jail for 2 years?

Especially with how much it costs to keep people in prison. I'm surprised it was that long to be honest.

yes thats what i mean. kingston comes second.

windsor is seedy as fuck and the casino rapes pay checks in that town.

i think you know what i meant...no need to be an asshole.

and i'm saying the punishment should be more severe for animal cruelty to dogs and cats.

who's being an asshole? there is a reason why prison terms are most always longer for murder one. trying to make more severe laws for animal cruelty could be pretty damn tedious. if a man is racing a horse, the horse breaks a leg and then needs to be put down, why shouldn't he go to jail? why shouldn't those killing the animal go to jail?

because horse racing is not considered cruel in most eyes, the owner knows and accepts that risk when he buys the horse. also you clearly don't know anything about horses because it is more painful to the horse to keep it alive with an injury and it's much more humane to euthanize the animal.

i'm talking about cruelty to dogs and cats, like in the article above.

Seriously, huge waste of money for something that was clearly an accident perpetrated by a very stupid person

who's to say its more humane to kill the animal? sure the owner accepts the risks, but the horse doesn't. do you see what i'm trying to get at here? if we are going to look at this from a standpoint of legality, why aren't those deciding to end the animals life as much at fault as the party injuring it? if a man is driving, hits a pedestrian, and an onlooker decided the man hit is in such great pain it is better to just put a bullet in his head, well, thats illegal. the question of where the line is drawn is just too difficult to answer if i sliced a dudes nuts off he wouldn't be put to "sleep", would he?
i'm not trying to be insensitive here, i'm just trying to look at your comments from a realistic standpoint.

Everyone wondering what kind of person would do that read the last line "Abeywickrema was on parole for manslaughter " yeah, hes obviously a little whack
