i just started reading "Born Standing Up" the autobiography of Steve Martin. so far so good.

I wanna read I am Legend and the books that the TV show Dexter are based on. I have no idea how to check out books from my schools library though. I've only ever used it for studying.

i read The Kite Runner last month or something, and i thought it was superb. i know its a pretty common book, but if you haven't read it yet, definately go for it!

not lately, but i am reading The Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man, which is possibly one of the worst books everr

the ancestors tale by richard dawkins is interesting, but its wayyyy too detailed to sit down and read for more than a half hour. my attention span favours fiction novels

^all good suggestions to mental note.

i'm wondering if anyone has read any good books that have anything to do with skiing/freeskiing. i've found doris lachapelle's book ( http://www.wildsnow.com/tips/booklist/book_review_lachapelle.html ) but haven't read it or even purchased it. everytime i go to amazon or something like that, i just killed with pages of ski-trip books, skiing for dummies, and the like. so if anyone knows of any good ski books or biographies (etcetc) throw them up here.

just read : navy seals in vietnam

reading : the world is flat

shake hands with the devil

will read : fifteen days

don't really read fiction. if im going to read i want to learn something from it.

The last great book I read was The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentlemen. It's seriously one of the most intense, hardest, and funniest book I've ever read. I suggest everyone to try and read it through.

Weird, I just made a post about this somewhere else! Anyways, here's my abbreviated list:

Desert Solitaire-Edward Abbey

The Fool's Progress-Edward Abbey (really, any book by Ed Abbey is good)

The Dharma Bums-Jack Kerouac

Life Of Pi-Yann Martel

Three Cups of Tea-Greg Mortenson

1984-George Orwell

The Portable Henry Rollins-Henry Rollins

The Catcher In The Rye-J.D. Salinger

Requim For A Dream-Hubert Selby JR

great list! abbey is so great. kerouac is my all time fav. particularly desolation angels and lonesome traveler. life of pi is on my to-read list. isnt greg mortenson from bozeman? 1984 kicks ass. catcher in the rye? such a classic. vonnegut is always fun, though i havent read that one- breakfast of champions is one of my favorites.

He sure is! He's an absolutely terrible public speaker, too. But his book is really awesome, it should be recommended reading for everyone. Not just to raise awareness for the Central Asia Institute, but also to help straighten out people's huge misconceptions about the area and its cultures/religions.

read a book called the match before christmas. its about golf. also sort of brief biographies of ben hogan byron nelson ken venturi and charlie ward. if youre a golfer you would probably like it.

Recently Read:

i dont usually read for fun, but my history teacher from 9th grade, who was extremely wise said it was the greatest book ever written, so im in the midst of the 800+ page novel "The Brothers Karamozov" by Fyodor Dostoyevski. Its taking forever, but a pretty good read. I plan to read "Crime and Punishment" afterwards, by him.

I just finished Dante's Inferno, and it was rad

into thin air by jon krakauer is a good one, about the everst disaster in 96

life of pie by jan martel. really good, pretty odd

Fahrenheit 451 by ray bradbury is also excellent

I'm reading "I Am America (And So Can You!)" by Stephen Colbert right now and it is excellent like his show.

Im going through a Jack Kerouac phase; I've read On the Road, Dharma Bums, and Big Sur.

All of the books are really good. They are not too exciting like the Harry Potter series.

i am reading I Am Legend now, and all i can say is it it's awesome so far and definitely better than the movie. They are actually quite different from one another

I just got back from Mexico, read the Jimmy Buffet book, "A salty piece of land" such a chill ass book, Jimmy Buffet is the man haha.

For my english ISU we had to do it on a piece of Canadian literature and I read No Great Mischief by Alsitair MacLeod which was also a pretty tight book.

Last good book i read was "Angels of the Universe", by Einnar [sp] Gudmundsson, about a schyzophreniac man and his evolution through life. It was quite touching and really awesome.

The other day my dad suggested me to read Interzone by William S. Burroughs (pretty odd since it tells about a junkie faggot, Burroughs himself). I read it and absolutely loved it. I've read Burroughs' Junkie too and I'm going to read Naked Lunch, Ghost of Chance and The Ticker That Exploded too, since my dad has them all.

I just finished reading Ham On Rye by Charles Bukowski, which I liked alot too.

That's a really good book. I really liked the Cherry Tree analogy he used.

Currently reading: "...And the Truth Shall Set You Free" - David Icke

About to read: Ticket to Ride (a biography about the Beatles' tours of 1968 and 1969.)

i think it would freak me out if my dad ever suggested burroughs to me. ive only read naked lunch. it was really awesome, but pretty damn disturbing. and a little awkward when someone asks you what its about. "well, its about this heroin junky that likes to fuck young boys...."

Power of One is a dope book, I need to reread that. Currently reading I Am Legend (fucking good) and I'm going to start on Freakonomics eventually.

hairstyle of the Damn- it was a super fast read, kind about punk kids and growing up.

Any Hunter S thompson book, he is a super good writer.

Electric Kool Aide Acid Test- if your into the dead this is a must read (Tom Wolfe)

Also I suggest from Tom Wolfe I am Charlotte Simmons

Into the Wild- Jon Karkaier
